@Ghost I apologize if I expressed myself in a way that was too provocative. The developers can’t help it… but it should be understood that despite all the developers’ efforts, many customers hardly get anything. Why is that? Certainly not the developers themselves… Suunto should move. Their surveys are a step. Now they should finally deliver. If I have personally attacked you, I’m sorry. That was not my intention.

@Sascha-Domres No, you haven’t attacked me personally. In my opinion your statement is just absolutly wrong.

@Sascha-Domres It’s all good. As long as you keep it respectful, we can discuss.

I use the Suunto Vertical primarily for sports, focusing on training efficiency rather than all-in-one tracking. I don’t use sleep monitoring or wrist-based heart rate, as I prefer more accurate external sensors. My main interest is in the ZoneSense algorithm, which helps me optimize my efforts based on real-time intensity.

I’m completely satisfied with both the watch and the app—they’re well-designed and offer everything I need. My usage is quite specific, and I know that everyone has different expectations from their devices. For me, what matters most is having a reliable tool for training, without unnecessary features that don’t add value to my experience.

Still, I fully understand your perspective, and if it’s communicated in a respectful manner, it will always be better received by those who are doing their best to bring the features that some users want.

@Sascha-Domres I think what Brad asks you is ā€žwhat BIG thing in the app are you waiting forā€œ. I am with him that there are many small things that could be changed - I would also love to see a calendar integration or that tags could be deleted or that I could tap on the HR/Resources/Steps etc. graphs and see a timestamp etc., but don’t you consider the app as a whole very polished?

@Brad_Olwin a lot of things are missing or badly developed. Personal bests are a joke. Route comparison is a joke. Both things unusable. Tracking gear? With tags? Alerts for gear maintenance? Importing activities - missing data, wrong zones, suunto coach becomes unusable.

Just check intervals.icu what can be done, full customization, notifications for best power/pace, when to charge battery and so on. SA is just very basic…

My issue with the app is that it can’t upload correct laps to strava/export them to fit files. that breaks runna, trainasone, and basically any external structured workouts tool.

and apparently it’s been broken in this way forever. so a watch billed ā€œthe ultimate performance watch for racing and trainingā€ (race/race s), can’t be used for training, at least outside of suunto’s (limited) native workouts.

I am not even getting into ā€˜nice to have’ things, or exciting new features. i just had to return the watch because i can’t get it to do the fundamentals šŸ˜ž i did my part and reported the issue but between the slow automated responses i don’t have confidence that this will ever be fixed.

TBF, at least TrainAsOne completely strips out lap information before processing the data. That’s why you have to steps where you have to be slow for a minute or so…

@Likarnik The Suunto app provides interaction with a wide range of partners, allowing each user to find what they need through one of them. I don’t understand the frustration of not having within the app something that already exists with a partner for whom Suunto has specifically designed a gateway. And unless I’m mistaken, the gateway is indeed part of the app… I track my gears using hashtags, and I find it very effective (except for the fact that you can’t delete a hashtag created by mistake—that’s really annoying).

@Likarnik I actually find the tags solution very flexible - not only for gear, but for other useful information I want to track and compare to my data, and concerning things like alarms for gear usage, I personally don’t need an app to tell me if my shoes or my bike needs maintenance or must be exchanged but that maybe different for others and that’s the point: If you create an app, that can do everything for everyone it will become extremely complex and I think that’s what happened with Garmin’s app in a way (in which imported data also doesn’t give you the same metrics as the one you track with their watches btw.). But I am with you, that there are smaller things that could be done better without adding too much complexity.

@ChrisA …all the errors that have been discussed and reported here in the forum since the release of the SV… I don’t care if it’s an error with the watch firmware or software in SA. And of course errors can happen… Nevertheless, the update frequency is low and often plagued with errors. If Suunto doesn’t communicate transparently, you look for help and end up here in the forum. The fact that the official route directly with Suunto doesn’t work shows a major communication problem. The app’s design is nice and tidy. Yes, that’s true. But compared to Coros App or AW Apps like Footpath, PeakWatch etc., it should be more developed. The ones listed are updated very quickly and when a beta comes out you notice it in the range of functions. Don’t get me wrong, not everything runs smoothly there either, but the communication and direction is noticeable. I find it annoying when people write that the cautious release policy of updates is appreciated… I often wonder how there can still be so many problems. I think the number of field testers is far too low… both for the app and the watches… if the changes aren’t even announced when a beta is released and users have to search for them, that’s not productive.

Just looked at the Coros website and you’re right, they really have this nicely done, when it comes to presenting what new features - even smaller ones like naming your paired devices (which is something Suunto should add too!) - they added in the last updates. And they seem to have a regular update cycle / process installed.

@ChrisA Yes they update their watches pretty often. I have a Coros watch as well, and am also running beta software and actually never had any issues or encountered a bug to be honest.

@Mitch9 I have no problem with that, we don’t have to agree. If the progress is enough for you, that’s great. But if I compare it to the app and software developments of other providers, I’m disappointed with Suunto. But maybe it’s absolutely right to be so cautious and cautious about releasing updates only after extremely careful processing and long testing. Many people have already told me that I have no idea. The point goes to you. My sales will probably go somewhere else next time. Maybe somewhere where the price of the watch is in relation to the development.

@wakarimasen A lot of things are correct and I agree with a lot of things. The marketing promise of the Vertical is that it is an adventure watch for outdoor expeditions and training with solar charging. In my opinion, the focus should therefore be on further developing the functions of the maps, the POI, security, setting the map offline in the app, planning offline, mirroring the current track on the phone display and much more. Zone Sense is really great and I’m happy that the Vertical has also got the feature. However, I would have seen the Race as the target group. As I said, it’s great that all watches get this. However, I miss the developments for the Vertical’s target group.

@Sascha-Domres These are solid requests, that was all I was asking for, offline maps and planning offline are features we both want. POIs need improvement and this is an issue often requested by the field test group. I personally have been asking for offline maps for a long time…years. Development priorities are set by the company but the requests from users are taken seriously. That is why I asked what specifically you needed. Concrete requests are straightforward to convey. I can say there is a lot of development occurring with the app, not sure when features will appear.

Sure, I agree, but wouldn’t it be nice to have all in one app? For example why to I need to connect to runalyze to check if my belt needs replacement because it has inaccurate data? Do I need to spam with my data all over the world to have all I need? This is also not sustainable as suunto likes to brag šŸ™‚

I also agree with you, 5years ago I didn’t need alarms, but now if I forget to charge my derailleur before ride😵 And you don’t need to complex things for everyone, just give chance to other who want that šŸ™‚ Intervals.icu is very customizable, you can select which fields/graphs you want to show and even use javascript to create some very custom graph that you like… Of course I don’t expect that for SA, just an example of what is possible.

@Likarnik It’s a matter of personal choices, I actually prefer the simple approach and add complexity via third party connections, but there are of course other thinkable possibilities, like having kind of Suunto+ for the app (not the watch), where you could choose certain plug ins. And I agree - getting older doesn’t make remember things easier šŸ˜…
