Suunto Smart sensor smelly belt
-
Hello, I noted that the contact pads of my smart sensor belt (that I bought more than one year ago) had become less flexible, and also they were quite smelly. So I decided to buy a new belt, but with my surprise I found that the pads of the new belt were as smelly as in the old belt.
Was I unlucky? or is it normal? -
I don’t know if it is normal, but this also my experience. I had previously 2 Suunto belts, and both were smelly. I purchased a replacement belt and it also smelled funky since beginning. And it was even worse when it got wet from sweat. I stopped using it because my clothes smelled badly from it.

The Suunto belt smells less than the Polar H9

//EDIT
Really, I have both. -
I also had the problem that after about 9-10 months, my pulse would spontaneously increase by almost exactly 20 beats after about 10 minutes of running. After two exchanges by the seller, I switched away from the Suunto chest strap.

To add… I now have a Coros HRM and a cheap Wahoo chest strap, none of them smell

@OutdoorMan admit it, you like that smell

yes, that’s the major issue, it makes smelly everything that goes in contact with it
really not acceptable for the price! -
I have 2, and mine don’t smell bad.
The pads of the oldest one smell a bit plasticky, but nothing funky or that sticks to my clothes … but I machine-wash it every couple of intense uses
ooc did you buy it from suunto store ? -
I currently use 3 Suunto belts, and I have been using few ones before, none has ever smell anything.

the whole smart sensor belt one on suunto store, the replacement belt on amazon, but the box looked like an original suunto one.
Don’t know what to think

It’s probably similar to activewear. Since they’re made of synthetic materials, they tend to smell bad. The solution is detergents for activewear. I occasionally clean the belt (without the sensor) with baking soda, and after each workout I rinse the belt under running water and I don’t have these problems, Even though I’ve been using the belt for several years.

I always rinse it too with warm water.
wash the stuff is the key

The issue is that it smelled like chemicals from day one when I ordered a new one. It doesn’t have anything to do with cleanliness.

exactly!

To me, the smell resembles that of leather products that have been in contact with water for some time.

Mine smells a bit like a newly bought laptop getting hot. Do you meen that? Like flame retardant?
