@andrasveres no joke, but configure a screen with lap interval times and use the lap button.

Ambit3 workouts & MC app workout builder go waaaay beyond time based intervals. Interval duration is not limited to time. Besides time, it can be based on:

      • lap (you move to the next step through lap button)
      • distance
      • calories
      • HR bellow
      • HR above

And what makes it so great is additional guidance, A3P has special view for workouts displaying a chart with upper and lower guidance limits, same chart also indicates how far into current interval section you are. And guidance value can be speed, pace, cadence, power or hr.
And you can can start and stop and switch those workouts as much as you like during your activity , i.e. you switch into workout once you have finished your warmup.

It’s flexibility makes it super-useful for not only structured intervals, but for any kind of guidence: basically unlimited number of hr, pace or power zones that are not directly attached to any sport mode. Or use it just for flexible distance / duration based autolaps.
      https://www.suunto.com/Support/Product-support/suunto_ambit3_peak/suunto_ambit3_peak/features/interval-workouts/

I’m personally using A3P workouts mostly for HR zone guidance - it’s upper/lower alarm is more responsive compared to common HR limits that are configured for sports mode and I don’t have to create several sport modes just for different HR zones (for Ambits HR limits are not changeable from the watch); plus there is no annoying autoscale on the chart so I can have a really good visual even for tight HR limits.

I’ve actually promised myself not to care anymore. But seeing some excellent and proven engineering left behind like this still makes me sad …

@margusl So true. Cannot agree more. Cannot understand how such a great feature just gets left behind…we’re probably not mainstream enough 😉

@margusl I can’t understand that either. Even if this seems not to be aligned with Suunto’s current corporate purpose it can’t be that complex to program in the firmware. If Ambits have it, why Spartans don’t? 😵

@jsuarez Suunto doesn’t need to make a workout planner in SA. Just add option in watch to select and define asymetric values distance /duration / pace and beeps. Satisfied with that. A software senior developer like Mr. Dimitrios make code for that in one night!

I just had a stellar customer support experience in connection with a warranty claim and was about to recommend Suunto as a Garmin replacement to my friends. Before doing so, I decided to check out if this specific feature was going to continue since we all use it a lot.

There goes that recommendation. It is a shame…

This whole transition away from Movescount, dropping important features along the way, really bothers me. Workouts, or the interval timer at a bare minimum, are necessary for basic training. Now with Suunto app I’m looking at steps and calories…yay.

                    That’s very disappointing!

I am on iOS and once i get a new phone I cannot use the old app anymore.
I am very happy with the Ambit3 peak and Suunto in general.

However, I want to go with the time and upgrade eventually. Then I may have to consider other watches which support structured workouts…like Garmin which at least allows import from TrainingPeaks.

                    Very sad…

Yes you can. if you have it installed in any iOS device you can install it after.
                    I did it.

That’s definitely planned obsolescence. Selling a product with a list of features, then fropping them and asking your clients to buy a more recent watch. Suunto is a shame and I would not recommand it.

I am really angry not being able to have this feature with the new Suunto App. (Even the support on the old Movescount was really bad for this).

If Suunto App is not going to support that either, shouldn’t Suunto developers make a minor contribution to open source projects (like openambit) to allow the comunity develop custom tools to still be able to use structured workouts on their watches as the feature the paid for?

Have you noticed that this feature you have paid for, will stay active in MC app until 2021? As badly implemented as you say it.

I just got myself a Suunto 9 Baro, my first brand new watch ever!
I haven’t tried it out on a proper run yet and have just been playing with the customisable bits of the watch.

From what I understand, Intervals is not available as an option in a custom sport mode, only available on the stock run sport mode. Which is a shame, we’ll see how it goes when I try to do a workout. The other thing I was hoping for was Trainingpeaks integration or at least the ability to import plans onto the watch for preset intervals and what not.

I think the Suunto App has a lot of potential, and a lot of it is porting MC functionality to the new platform. I’m also assuming Suunto App is a different backend to MC and there are probably issues with getting stuff ported. Well, I just got this watch so I’m going to hang around for a bit to see what else appears in Suunto Plus!

                              That’s not correct.
You just need to add the interval screen in your custom mode
