@Brad_Olwin when I bought my S9 last August my tracks were okay, but nothing better than that. Since the last update I had almost only amazing tracks, and I mean in normal suburban to urban environment. When I am out in the open, it’s even better. Nowadays I really can’t ask much more in terms of tracks.

          @isazi
I did not have such experience, I hope to get out more during the next weeks. Like I wrote, hit or miss since last update, but only for short walks.

          Which setting do you use @isazi & @nseslija - GPS or GPS+Beidou?

@Cuba1hr I’m now on GPS+Beidou all the time. I got pretty nice tracks with GPS only too, but simply I don’t want to play change settings often so I haven’t gone back.

@Cuba1hr since the last update Beidou only, walks are most challenging, arm movement and slow speed… when your amr is in the pocket the results are better. Tracks when cycling are great. Haven’t hike yet, COVID lockdown…

Thank you both, I have to test GPS+Beidou for a run session. Soon…

I know, but to miss that much, even with waiting after acquiring the signal.

BTW, I was moving on that road most to the right, not the road nearest to the buildings.

@Cuba1hr it could drift on the watch wearing side… and I think it is normal when the watch is, lets say, in this position /- for a longer time, if you look at the watch more often and the watch is leveled you will be back on track…

I know, but that is too much…for 2020 and such amount of $$$. Then the watch I bought for GPS and OHR is practically trash and I am (along with others) a sucker in the end. It is not worth that kind of money for such performance. For 600-700$ watch I would expect the spot on positioning and heart rate monitoring.

I had never such thing on any of my previous (cheaper) GPS devices. That “middle of the building” is …I guess more than 20 meters away from the second road where I was. On the way back, couple of hours later, it was better, but not perfect.
If it acts like that here and there…it just cannot be used for data comparisons.

@Cuba1hr I totally disagree, the watch is great, and I don’t think that I am a sucker 😂😂. The S9B is really good for everything I am using it for, cycling, hiking (with route navigation), pool swimming, indoor cycling and walking. It is accurate and reliable. Maybe you expecting to much for such a small device.

my tracks are also very good! (GPS+QZSS by default, but I’m not in Japan 😉 ) very slow cycling uphills in the forest… the precision is sometimes a bit off the road, maybe 3-4m, not more and for sure nothing to complain about. Suunto team did a great job on that 👍

@Cuba1hr that doesn’t look well not sure what to say here but it looks like indeed you don’t get good accuracy here. I would like to see the complete picture though.

I went for a short walk by the sea to calibrate the altitude, it was 10m off - 2m above the sea it was showing 12m.

So, short walk (about 300 m), synced with app, waited after signal acquiring, again GPS + Beidou, unfortunately I didn’t go back to check only GPS + QZSS.

It is again way off on the first walk, then better on the second, but it missed the turn on the road completely to the finish on the second image.
                              comparison.jpg

The start on the first is on the left side of that road (not on the building more than 10 meters away), just like the line on the second image just before the end.
I said, it is a hit or miss.

@Cuba1hr I did a run with A3P, S9B and S5 yesterday. The distances were very close and the tracks of S9B and A3P are very similar. GPS only on S9B. I can post some photos if you like.

@Brad_Olwin It’s not necessary just because of me. I will try the day after tomorrow to test GPS vs GPS+Beidou again.
It is something like some of you were writing before, better accuracy on GPS only vs Galileo.

Dimitoris was praising GPS+Beidou while testing, even before the official firmware was out (as were some of you others after), so I expected it to be closer to…again my other watch, and to be consistent. Maybe only GPS would be better, but you would expect 2 system together to be better than one…don’t know what else to write. I will try that on tuesday and with run.

@Cuba1hr I believe the coverage is location dependent. I am in Colorado, US and I have not seen any significant improvement with multiple satellite systems over GPS.

I am in south central Europe (eastern some would say😁 ) and I had big expectations of Galileo. In the end was a bit disappointed. I hoped that 2 systems would catch up with the GPS only on SirfStar IV chipset and to be close.

Hi guys I sold my S9B so I won’t test anymore.

Thank you once again for all of your help, I am going back to the “neighboring camp” again, with my previous watch and complete platform at the moment…with my eyes on their newest release, expecting new reviews considering GPS accuracy to make decision about the purchase again.

When I got S9 I was unaware of Movescount abandonment, finicky light activation while running (2 wet fingers/gloves tap), disappointment in daily battery life with HR tracking and GPS issues I had considering the price.
Maybe one day I will be back to Suunto. I wish Suunto will be able to fix most of the bugs mentioned here on this forum and add new features via SuuntoPlus to you.

I will keep following the forum and hopefully continue using QS too.
                                            Goodbye for now.
