obviously not but you describe it right to the point! 👌
I get in rage everytime I notice when it becomes all about the money and not about the product itself and customer satisfaction

@TELE-HO so…, this info is added when you record the workout with SA?

@lexterm77 well there’s plenty of weather data providers so there is no monopoly. I personally use the openweather APIs and the meteoblue website.

but one company acquiring another one and removing lics from a 3rd company etc… that, honestly, to me sounds a bit like the monopoly game…
this weather thing and FB and who knows whats next, when e.g. Garmin buys Strava or Runalyze or whatever…
the goal is to become bigger and get more customers

It’s difficult for Garmin to grow more, so they need to buy others (Tacx) or limit others (FB)

Well there are a lot of services that eventually get sold or are shut down.

This has really todo with the consumer “perception” where users don’t want to pay, expect “unpromised” features etc.

Strava, for example, if users don’t pay, you know they have their costs for servers (at least), what do you think will happen (just an example).

Specifically there is a big issue atm with Open Source Software as people don’t get paid for developing etc.

As walmarkt monopolized small towns, it was not wallmarkt but the consumers.

                      I know I’m getting offtopic here 😉
… Strava forces his non paying customers to a membership as they left segments and ranking in the free ware… I saw some friends of mine immediately buying a membership as soon as Strava put the segments into the member section… of course Strava benefits from their competition addiction…
BUT I will not give my money to a company that changes functionality so drastically WITHOUT destinguishing between roadbike and MTB, running and trailrunning, alpine skiing and telemark skiing etc.

I rather support smaller developers with great ideas, innovation and flexibility 👍

The way I see these take overs, once upon a time a small company makes a good product, lots of people will use it, a big company sees it as money making opportunity, swallows it and injects its own crap for people to consume.

I can confirm this from my direct own experience, but outside of the sport industry… that’s how it works. and if a company has bought a branch that does not throw off enough money they’ll find another company with a similar product that buys that branch and integrates it into itself or just to get some legal rights and this branch is eaten and digested

Strava is absolutely uninteresting because they don’t have as many sports modes as Suunto. It’s developed for runners and race cycling. Bad business for this like med which have ski as the main activity
