@thomas-ma 24 laps + 250m would be rather outstanding and excellent in terms of accuracy.
Just check how and where the 400m lap really is 400m long … I think it is nearly impossible to run the ‘perfect line’ for so long.

@bulkan I used the loop S+ on the track, worked pretty well.

@shrek3k Actually I checked again as I only ran 23, not 24 loop!!!

            I stayed at lane 2 most of the time so it should be 407.67m per loop. In theory it is 407.67 x 23 = 9,307.41+ 250 = 9,626.41. That’s off by 373.59m or 3.7%.

                Gps cannot get that precision,

Let me explain something about the GPS,

There are lots of factors which could be affect the GPS accuracy.
i’ve got different distance/speed in the same field with 8 hours apart.

(and sometimes the field is not parfait 400m )

secondly, coros might have an improved algorithm for field, which you can set your tack length before running.

Your experience is the SUNNTO GPS’s distance is more than the real distance,
but some of us, who get the experience where the GPS distance is less than the real distance.

                So the solution is obviously,
Buy a footpod such as stryd to get the precious distance with your suunto 9,
Buy a coros for the tack sport, if you consider it’s GPS is better.

Stryd is your new friend, cheaper than the Coros and I think the community is not like this one but I could be wrong.

Garmin has track, even you can choose the line you are running.

So yesterday I ran another 5k at the same sports ground. This time I synchronized the Suunto 9 with my phone on site first before running.

                    I ran 11.5 laps at lane 4, that’s 11.5 * 423m = 4,864.5m, off by 135.5m, or 2.7%.

Digging up this topic as I started running on track while waiting for my daughter 🙂

I run on a smaller track, 250m and use track and field sport mode. I’m wearing my watch on left hand. I think my S9P is underestimating my pace and thus distance. Last time I changed direction in the middle of my run, and pace was quite higher at the same effort (HR). Change was from counter clockwise (watch on inside) to clockwise (watch on outside). Can this be the difference? I’ll try next week with watch on right hand… I assume 400m track would give better results as there is bigger radius and longer straight line. I know foot pod is the solution, but anyway…

Here, I changed direction at about 20min mark. And yes, there is HR drop just before 15min (H10, it’s not so accurate lately). Red is HR, light blue is pace.

And why is there speed instead of pace in SA? Is that common for track running?

You did in the right, way, changing direction is very recommended. Or just but a footpod
