April is Coming ! (S7)

There is always a solution: Samsung GW5 will be pretty good
-
@metalmi Samsung GW5 can also not use the Suunto Wear App with external sensors.
A similar solution to using a Samsung watch would be to use the S7 with a 3rd party app that uses external sensorsā¦
Anyway, I agree that we most likely wonāt see this feature coming to the S7. This has obviously been a design descision factoring in battery use, target group, R/D resources, etc.
-
in case you guys missed this topic, there are some workarounds of other apps that can use an external sensor on s7.
Better than nothing https://forum.suunto.com/topic/5751/sunnto-7-sensor-support?_=1648650255162 -
@metalmi yeah, can that thing display routes with turn by turn navigation and heatmaps?
-
Suunto should really consider publishing at minimum security updates to Suunto 7 smartwatch. Having internet connected device with personal information including payments without security patches is ticking bomb for Suunto brand.
-
Iām wondering which brand of fitness/smartwatch have the best record of keeping it up to date. Suunto unfortunately seems very bad keeping at least the 7 updated.
-
@harboe but it still updates almost 4 year old S9, thatās cool, right?

I think this is done with the WearOS updates. Suunto does not need to update the sports side for security.

What needs to be updated? While there are features I would like to have on the S7, for example customizable HR zone is probably my #1, why does it need updating? The sports side is fairly complete and I think Suunto has been clear that external sensors for the Suunto Wear OS app is not going to happen.
-
@brad_olwin security updates should at least be kept kinda up to date, like another user recently said.

And that is Googles job as that is part of WearOS. Why would the Suunto App need security updates? Again, I doubt that is Suuntoās responsibility.
-
@brad_olwin if itās like android phones, itās the manufacturerās job to push out security patches that Google provides. For instance, Samsung tests and pushes out the android security patches for their phones after Google makes them available to them. So it probably is Suuntos job to do this for the S7.

Since WearOS on the watch is updated independently and has been updated several times since the last Suunto update I doubt it. I am sure there are some patches Suunto needs to occasionally do but general WearOS updates are not part of that.
-
Iāve received a feedback mail from Suunto asking me how I like the first couple of months with my S7.
I think it is an automatic mail (most likely it is!), but if S7 (or wearOS in general) would be completely off Suuntos radar, my opinion would be that they stop sending emails like that. -
@freeheeler itās possible they want to se how the transition to Wear 3 goes before they make a decision. If they do make a wear 3 device, they might have to redo a lot of the work they did, so they might not want to continue to invest resources in an app for Wear 2. Guess weāll just have to wait and see.

@aleksander-h
I must say that I liked the S7 from what I saw. I used it only briefly as a backup while my S9B was in serviceā¦ what I disliked most is that I had to keep the charging cable in mind permanently.
I am curious if Suunto is working on a new WearOS and how it will be -
@freeheeler I donāt mind the charging. That said, I wanted a smart watch that was also a good running watch, so I wasnāt expecting anything with multi-day battery.

It is same as for Android. Manufacturer has to apply the security patch when it is available and push it to watches. If you still donāt believe it, check security patch version on S7 - it is āJuly 2021ā.
-
Anyone know what the latest security patch is for wear 2? Tried to Google it but couldnāt find any information.
-
Itās great that other models receive updates but as S7 owner I wait some fixes over the S7, I not mention improvements because at this times looks as miracle, but only fix. Only to metion few things:
- I expect for a random reboot on mid of any activity, that is bad
- Altimerter have very strange behavior, only with the SWA, not with other apps
- GPS also have some strange behaviors on zones that should be perfect for any other GPS device
- Canāt use meters/seconds on a device that support paragliding sport modeā¦ weirdā¦
- And few others that now not take in considration because maybe was my mistake think that the S7 was a āSuunto watchā + WearOS = āa dream deviceā and it was not so. Even, reading the manual in advance, I expected more on future firmware upgrade at the purchase moment like the additions of the Suunto Tiles, etc. but not was the case either.
I still like the S7 but now I prefer to sell it in the short time. This feeling of ābetter to sell this deviceā didnāt happen me with the A3P or even the S9B, and remember me my experience with the Garmin Fenix few years agoā¦
And as I said in another thread, it doesnāt make sense for me to wait for a new WearOS 3 model when 2 didnāt live up to my expectations.
