@egika I installed the app and left it to calibrate the Alti de automatically and guess what it’s 90 Mtrs out! What a joke. It’s down even show Sea level pressure regardless of setting the Altitude. Suunto could easily I lent one new face for Baro/Alti I don’t understand what’s their issue ans lack of development with their developers.

@binoworld-uk ok, I understand it does not work for you. have not used it for a while, because I usually don’t have the need to know my exact altitude out of an activity.

@egika said in The forgotten S7!!:

In my point of view it makes no sense to replicate a non-smart Suunto 9 into a Google WearOS watch.

To a certain degree I think it makes a lot of sense. I don’t want to have to switch between watches to get the best of both worlds. I want the same training features as an S5/S9 in a app for a WearOS watch. Yes, one can install any app from the app store, but honestly, none of them are particularly impressive. The Suunto app on S7 is way better than the others I’ve tried, despite missing quite a few features.

This is why I was hoping Suunto would keep working on WearOS. A WearOS maker that actually understands sports tracking meant I had a Android compatible smart watch that did an accurate job of tracking my workouts. A company who’s workout app wasn’t filled with pointless features like tracking how many push ups I can do or pretend to be able to measure my blood pressure.

@aleksander-h I totally agree with you. S7 isn’t an accomplished watch yet to rival Garmin. I find myself searching for that watch that can have a good battery life with proper ABC features. Suunto surely can implement a perfect Baro and altimeter in the S7 with a storm alarm

@binoworld-uk if you want a good baro app, check out Barotrend on the Play Store.

It’s not perfect, but it’s the best I’ve tried. It can be set to a tile or a complication.

@olymay I tried it and it’s very basic.

It’s not smart enough to switch from Baro to Altitude when it needs to. For accurate weather prediction it must have auto switch or at least allow the user to chose which mode to stay in.

@binoworld-uk Yeah, it’s pretty basic, but that’s why I like it. I like to have a simple air pressure trend that I can then interpolate myself (I’m an experienced sailor and have done loads of weather work, so I’m confident with my weather forecasting).

A couple of other apps that might interest you with regards to weather…

MyRadar Weather Radar is highly recommended by others members of this forum. It works well on phone and watch.

I’m UK based and use an app called Rain Today on my phone. It’s only officially available for iPhone (but Android APK is available). It’s only for the phone, but it sends rain notifications to the watch. I LOVE this app and use it all the time.

@olymay hey, same here UK based and I am in to weather forecasting despite not being a sailer 😉

I am an astronomer hence why a good Baro app is instrumental in my predations.

Barotrend app is clean, the only shortcoming like many other apps is that the moment you are moving the graph is no longer accurate for weather forecasting. Unless you are stationary, most ABC watches including Casio Will have issue interpreting solid weather trend. The graph will instantly show huge variation due to altitude not pressure change.

I do hope Suunto can implement a real Alti/Baro with automatic switch

@binoworld-uk Oh nice! I’m a photographer and this year I would like to try my hand at some astrophotography (just need to get myself to a dark sky location).

I thought that BaroTrend look location into account when determining pressure?
I’ve only ever used it when on the water where my altitude doesn’t change (unless the seas are scary big, in which case I don’t need an app to tell me a storm is coming 😂)

I doubt we will see any further updates or feature drops for the S7, as it’s been almost a year since the last proper update.
My hope is a second generation S7 to be released soon (maybe at MWC?) with WearOS 3, support for external sensors, full implementation of ABC, structured training, multi-sport, etc 🙂
                      (I’m keeping everything crossed)

@olymay Barotrend, does have an option to input SLP but it’s pointless as if not stationary the graph will be off. To give props the S7 is by default calculating absolute pressure as you lunch Barotrend app and that is spot on with my Davis weather station and my Casio. So the sensor in the S7 is incredibly accurate and it would make fine prediction as you said only when stationary at the same altitude. Finger crossed for a new S7 😉
