Neglected S7!!! Very disappointing from Suunto

All,
A year ago the S7 received its latest update which I am sure made many owners happy! Fast forward July 2022 and this watch is a dead duck. How disappointing to see Suunto in no man’s land without a plan for it’s only OLED Wearos watch?!
Perhaps, they need an internal shake up within its marketing and development team?! Who knows what they are up to?

A virtual pacer, Alti-Baro & compass as native apps not from Wearos.
The ability to view HR in a watch face not just as a tile. The ability to add sunrise or sunset in a watch face. More stock faces!
Let’s be honest, the most affordable watches from Huwaei, Honor have these features and more for a fraction of the cost of the S7

actually you’re requesting an S9B
everything is there from stock, compared to S7 which is, in my understanding, a different concept, where there’s only little pre-installed but you can add a lot from 3rd parties -
@freeheeler I know what you are saying about S9B, but it’s not a smartwatch and doesn’t have an OLED.
The store is full of rubbish apps, let’s take an example Alti/Baro app is nowhere near as good as a stock Suunto tile. None of these apps have Storm alarm or allow to set SLP properly. My point is how can a compnay not update a watch for an entire year whilst others are running away with new devices and updated features rolling out every quarter. Look at Garmin and Apple coming up with the AW8
The new Watchos 9 is going to kill other brands due to the new features added. Suunto will be one of the victims if they don’t pull their socks up and come up with a plan to release and S8 or give the S7 a new life.

if OP was missing some specific feature, he would have posted a feature suggestion

I think @Metalmi said my comment was stupid, not yoursI understand what you mean, but I do see it differently without judging. these watches simply have different concepts. S9 line is less smart but has solid and reliable features.
S7 is smart and offers lots of 3rd party apps to install but it is out of control of Suunto what apps are available in wear OS.I don’t know Suuntos plans in any direction. A company that wants to stay in business for sure is constantly researching and developing stuff (I’m a mechanical engineer myself and know this business too well…).
who knows what they are working on and what their future target market will be?
strategy we will never know and we can let only Suunto surprise us

@freeheeler I also think, that this question “what one is missing” directs to the thought If one isn’t just looking for features another watch may have, but which in the end don’t make a huge difference (if any at all!). As someone here in the forum once wrote: “watches don’t run!” The satisfaction of checking your stats after a workout comes mainly from the workout itself and at least I for me it distilled down to have reliable data concerning pace, HR with Zones, distance and some kind of training intensity like PTE and (afterwards RPE). Therefore I would still buy a S7 today, if Suunto would update its own app on the watch to have a setting in which you could configure your HR Zones. I sent my S7 back because of this feature missing and there @BinoWorld-UK Is completely right: where is that update?

@chrisa yes HR zone is fantastic feature. Btw it’s coming to the AW with WatchOS 9 in September.
What really puzzle me is how can Huwaei, Amzfit, Honor have all of these features cramped in their watches included SpO2 but Suunto can’t develop any for the S7 which is a cracking watch but just lacks the features?!

No doubt a massive difference in budget. Suunto might be a big name in the world of sports watches, but they’re no where near the size of Huawei and Huami.

@binoworld-uk actually I tried Huawes and Amazfits and never found that additional metrics useful, while other features were missing or were really bad (e.g. reliable routing or export of files etc. ) What I don’t understand (concerning the S7) is, why they don’t include basic sports features like user defineable HR Zones or connection to BT HR straps (which the watch can do with 3rd party apps) into their own Suunto App via an update.
I think ,as @freeheeler said, the S7 targets another user group than the S9, but it could offer the basic features other trackers / Sportwatches, which also target this user group. The S7 is (and could be) a great (even greater) product, bringing people closer to Suunto as a brand and then making them stay with Suunto, and later upgrading to other Suunto watches (or buying additional ones) as their training goals change over time.

@chrisa Finally someone understands the shortcoming of the S7 and how easily it can be come a great watch. The lack of updates will certainly see people looking elsewhere for other brands. I wrote to Suunto about this, and the response was. Sorry to disappoint you, but The S7 development is on ICe 🧊

So thats the “official” answer? Then the S7 either was a “one time” venture in the Smartwatch realm for Suunto or maybe there’s a S7 Peak in the works? Either way it’s a pitty, that there seem to be no updates to the watch anymore. If you could set your own HR Zones and maybe add a HR Belt, I would buy one today.

It’s not new, these already talked various times here. If S7 is not more powerful it’s because is a decision from Suunto, and I agree with this, I think the same.
Everyone knows that S7 with software improvements it’s better in various aspects than all the others Suunto models with the exception of battery life, but this could’t be a problem depending of the type of use.
Like I said in another thread, knowing Suunto, I downgrade from S9B to S7. I imagined a S9B+wearOS, even when in the moment of my purchase this was not like this. I staked that this could change with the future fw upgrades. This happened when added the tiles for HR, etc. But later no more
A powerful S7 could cause troubles in the product line?
It’s like have a BMW S1100RR and have mapped from the ECU to use a single cylinder

@flypg I have to agree that the S7 could be a killer device if few more features are added, and it will be disruptive hence why I think Suunto needs to make a decision about the future of the S7. Discontinue it, updated it or release a successor.
I use my S7 as I absolutely love that OLED screen, but I can’t help the fact that it’s missing some essential feature like HR zones and Baro/Storm alarm, more stock watch faces, HRV tile….

@brad_olwin so the million dollar question, is Suunto listening at all?
Perhaps we can all make some noise demanding some updates? Not sure how effective this could be, but I think worth perusing.

They’re a private company and the work they do needs to be justified by potential sales/profit. Making noise won’t make much difference if their device isn’t selling enough to justify the investment.
I suspect it’s no coincidence that updates stopped after Google announced Wear 3 and basically gave the middle finger to all existing Wear manufacturers by making it Samsung exclusive and being extremely vague on things like supported chipsets.
