True. If they are going to ditch the movescount, then adjust the software to upload the data to new platform. So what there is no bluetooth in some watches? You can still have access to your stats in the mobile app after they get uploaded through your computer by cable.

There is no doubt that Suunto makes very durable watches, in fact they are proudly stating that in their commercials (“Threee things will be left at the end of the world: twinkies, cockroaches and this watch”; “Built to last - just like you”). These are very bold statements and carry some serious weight. By setting the date for their death sentence, this doesn’t hold anymore. They are maybe built to last, but not to be used. Well you can use it until we decide that is time to kill your premium price device. The decision to stop using some device should not be on Suunto! We paid a premium device, price clearly reflected that, now we deserve at least to decide if and when we want to make a paper weight of it.

I’m not sure guys at Suunto understand what they are doing right now. They are breaking a promise to their loyal customers! That is a nightmare scenario for any company. Many customers were slowly progressing through Suunto watches at their own pace, upgrading to newer models when they wanted. Consistency of the technology Suunto provided, durability of their devices, quality of support, it all made people stick to this company. With this decision to effectively kill older but perfectly functional devices, they are not only going to lose existing customers, who will most certainly not buy Suunto products ever again, but will get an angry mob of people who actually used these devices for their real purpose, not just as fashion thing. You get it now? You will get very bad PR by people who actually have some influence on people you are trying to sell your equipment to. That could be disastrous for your reputation!

agree to your points, you made my day with your tagline:

I agree with lots of the points made here, as an Ambit 3 Vertical user. Fair enough Suunto might want to put all their efforts into building new things. But why not at least leave the current environment as it is? It works really well for a lot of people. Why not leave it switched on, even if unsupported, until 2030 instead of 2020?

I agree on the statements above. I changed from Garmin (Connect) to Suunto (Movescount) 1.5 years ago, because of the perfect analytics in the desktop version. I only recently upgraded from the Ambit3 Peak to the Ambit3 Peak Sapphire as I think it is one of the best watches ever and I thought it is a sustainable solution.
It awefully scares me when I now read that Ambit3 apps should not be available anymore and setting sport modes will not be possible anymore when Suunto shuts down the Movescount desktop and Movescount App…!!!
I really like to see all the analytics that are available in Movescount. I could programm an Ambit app to read my ascent rate in meters per hour for mountain sports and I could programm an app to see how steep I am climbing with the roadbike.
If this is all gone it does not make any sense to stay with Suunto any longer…

PLEASE Suunto, don’t leave your customers out in the rain and keep supporting the Ambit collection and keep the top notch analytics as it is done in Movescount.

Has any of you found any info about the roadmap yet? Ok with me that I temporarily need cable sync with Movescount to get routes in my Ambit3, but it is already getting annoying. IF it will not be supported in Suunto app, I can throw my watch out, because I am using it for navigation all the time.

Also, getting new workouts on my watch only works with Movescount app, so I will need to install it on an old phone and switch my watch to it, as only solution?

@Marianne-van-der-Meulen As the SuuntoApp really only has a few support for Ambit3 watches, the only advice I can give you, stick with Movescount and wait for the next update of the SuuntoApp. When that is available see if there are more functions to suit your needs, if not stick with Movescount. Sadly the only advice to give now. 😞

18 months? I will seriously think about others brands if ambit 3 still with this situation in June

I can use my Ambit 3 without any restrictions.
Of course I hope that I can use it like today for the next couple of years, too… but I’m optimistic

                          Just with Movescount.

Suunto App is at the moment unusable. What is worse - that there is no progress (in terms of Ambit3 implement.) since cca 01/2019…

yes, that is true. And to be honest and summarize my opinion about todays status of SA in general: it’s crap.
But I see some progress. For me it is more important that SA has a decent overview with sorting and comparing functions (total ascent, distance etc and weeks, months years comparison etc) AND a proper web interface. Before this is not developed and implemented I personally don’t need SA.

If I was Suunto I would first develop an interface that is web based and displayed in an App frame that works properly with all required functionality and only then connect all wireless watches (with the option for the full setup of sport modes, settings and Ambit Apps of course 🙂 ).

@estevez Yeah, “unusable” pretty much sums it up, I quit using it, and am fully back on Movescount (a mix of mobile/PC).

@TELE-HO I suggested a similar design, with a simple object-model, in-between the app/web layer, and the actual watches. This abstracts the whole mess, so they can have modules per-watch-family, however it works out. In fact, I’d bet they already have a LOT of this code, it’s just not laid out as such.

I just don’t believe they’re EVER going to bring basic features in, for the Ambit3, at this rate. If you look at the May/June “issue logs”, there’s exactly zero, nada, nothing, no issues for the Ambit family, so yeah…

This is roughly half of their syncs, per some report that was posted, around 01/19 (Ambit1, 2, 3 I’m pretty sure), a bit shy, but still that’s got to be a HUGE deal, if even 50% of that half just “bail” to another brand, because we can’t use the SA software, to even do something as simple as “install a new sport”, or “change a personal HR zone”, or “change your physical specs - lost a few pounds, got older, etc”.
Unless this changes, resale is a lost-cause, too, unless you can find an “exact match” for your sports, characteristics, etc, it’s a “weird deal”, if you ask me…

only last Friday I ordered a brand new Ambit3 Peak Sapphire as I think it is a rocksolid watch and I expect Suunto to support either MC or implement all the necessary stuff they still sell the A3 with into SA. It will take some time until they do that. Of course I also expected more in the recent SA 4.2.3 update but their statement in May was that they listen and good old A1-A3 customers will be enjoying their products also in the future.
I think that making the companys recent flagship A3 obsolete only because they tried to build another flagship with the Spartan Ultra and failed, then developped S9 and had success… doesn’t make sense. A3 is not that old and it is their workhorse. It was their money shitting donkey for a good bunch of years. If they drop A3 support they risk a lot of customers. If happy A3 users feel cheated they will most certainly look around for Suunto alternatives.
The A3 can do everything that an adventure athlete needs and it even has customizeable apps for the watch. S9 does not have that, please correct me if I’m wrong.

So yes, today SA is not really helpful. But until they shutdown MC we can still stick with MC web and MC app. I check every now and then the SA for trials and of course with every update what has been changed and improved.

For me it is out of question if they support the A3 thru SA like they do today thru MC app/web. It is a clear must!
It would even be possible to support A1 and A2 without bluetooth if they would supply an adapter to connect thru the charger in the phone or a bluetooth connector cable…

                                    Just choose another location and/or Ambit3 model (non-Saphire, with/without a HR belt).

And navigate through Suunto site, your own bookmarks and Google can land you to some discontinued product variants. I can still see plenty of in stock Ambits listed.
