Suunto 9 baro - GPS track not accurate
-
@Mff73 the conditions were not perfect, a couple of thin clouds. Regarding the houses around I attached a picture.
google coordinates where it lost signal:

I still have two weeks for returning the product back. Any chances of getting a software update until then?
Thanks,

I don’t think my S9 has a good GPS track accuracy but I think mine has not same as worst as yours.
You have to do several tests to make sure where is the problem.
Do a 12s reboot and update AGPS.
Try once in same route.
Try another route (another country)
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud)
Try with Glonass(sometime/some countries Glonass is better than GPS) -
Do a 12s reboot and update AGPS. - Already did that and the calibration step.
Try once in same route. - I already did that and the track was decent.
Try another route (another country) - don’t see the relevance.
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud) - don’t see the relevance. If my phone works in cloudy day, suunto should also.
Try with Glonass(sometime/some countries Glonass is better than GPS) - I will and get back on this thread.
Here i was in the mountains:
but this watch is used for tracking of the rebullXalps athletes. It should work also in the mountains.

Try once in same route.an example from another run, same place.

Try once in same route. - I already did that and the track was decent. so it means your S9’s GPS could work well
Try another route (another country) - don’t see the relevance. We’d know if the bad signal relevant the route, for example another route has good GPS signal, it means on your first route, it has some unsure factors
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud) - don’t see the relevance. If my phone works in cloudy day, suunto should also. Yes and no, GPS watch normally has not the same accuracy as phone

what product would you choose if you return your S9?
I can show you here my record of an Ambit3 Peak Sapphire on a roadbike tour in a mountian zone where there are rock faces right next to the road and during that activity there was no blue sky… it was pouring down rain like out of buckets… -

They get bad track as well, due to weather factors
-
@zhang965
the S9 is weather sensitive and the A3 isn’t? -

the S9 is weather sensitive and the A3 isn’t?I don’t know, maybe? my A3peak works greater than S9/Spartan ultra
-
@zhang965
it’s really strange… especially since Suunto says “thousands hours of testing in the toughest conditions”…
ok, it’s a new product. I believe “thousands of hours”… but A3 has proofed millions of hours… -
Bad accuracy can always happen. It depends a lot of parameters such as GPS itself, weather, obstacles, speed… With my S9, I have maybe an issue 1 times out of 10 activites. Don’t forget that you are wearing a watch. Not a big GPS device with bigger antennae.
-
@TELE-HO - that looks nice
First I wanted to buy Suunto Ambit 3, a friend of mine has an Ambit 2 and never has issues with the tracks. But it’s still expensive for a 6 year old watch, which means was a very good one.
I tried Xiaomi stratos 2, good tracks - not such a good application, was too much of a smartwatch than sport watch.
I tried then Fenix 5, good tracks, problems with software/battery, even with no run and WHR stopped the battery was out in 2 days.
So I was looking at suunto spartan and suunto 9.…and seems i have to get back to ambit 3.

@v-sacre
I have once in 1.5 years had an issue where the gps signal was totally crazy for half of the activity. After that, no bad signals ever again. Not one out of 10… never. -
@florin2528
I will receive my brand new A3 Peak Sapphire tomorrow -

brand new A3 Peak
what do you mean by brand new?
-
@florin2528
I used to buy second hand watches and they were always quite good. But now I have decided to order a new one from a shop. -
@florin2528
Maybe I’ve missed it, but did you already try a different path ?Back to that “faulty” track, Is there any kind of electric stuff along that road (plant, pillar etc)?
Do you wear any kind of magnetic stuff near your watch.
You can’t imagine the mess … -
I don’t know the true factors, there are some rumors:
- A3P has more simple components then new products, this makes its GPS has less interference.
- A3P has a GPS not under screen, it makes its GPS has less interference, (well let’s see S5?)
- A3P’s GPS (Sirfstar V) has better tune
-
Hi, these drops in GPS looks like you have a power saving enabled. I am here to help on this.
How does the prestart screen look like?
Also very soon comes a new GPS FW so I would encourage you to wait a TINY bit for it.
-
I tried different paths and sometimes the tracks are decent. But 1 from 5 had accuracy issues.
not really, but along the road there are some 380v cables.
No magnetic stuff. I was thinking to buy this watch in order to get rid of phone.
