Serious update for Ambit3 users
-
Hello,
Is there any serious update for Ambit3 users according to SuuntoApp? It has been really long time of silence, this is really, definitely not serious relationship with customers. Even for those really loyal ones.
Thanks.

Update 4.12.6 - nothing new for Ambit3 owners, except notification selection & 2 tooltips (recovery time, PTE)
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos is there any SERIOUS status update for Ambit3 users? Thanks! -
I dont know my friend @thailon unfortunately
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos ok. Who can give us company’s update? We are waiting almost 1 year and nothing new for Ambit3 users.Nothing, no communication, no information from company.
-
@thailon Despite a very good question, that I dont know to answer, the only thing I know is that there will be some announcement this week.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos ok, thank you for quick reply.

I don’t understand all the rush…
“we will begin removing the Movescount App from the iOS AppStore and Google PlayStore by the end of 2019. Existing consumers can continue to use the app as long as it is still installed on their smartphone. We don’t have a specific closing date currently, but we wanted to give everyone plenty of notice before the change, and we will share more in our updates as we go forward.”Probably movescount app will work till the end of Movescount which is planned to be in Summer 2020, so why just not using movescount app and having a full feature experience till summer of 2020?

@André-Faria You are right, but for my part SA solves the buggy behavior of the MC App, and it’s a very strong motivation
With MC App :
- many retries are needed to sync one move (intialize sync, syncing, watch disconnected (??), back, another sync initialization, syncing, OH my move is synced (or not and another turn is needed)
- needs to be very patient, one move needs many minutes…
With SA :
- not any bug ATM with the sync process which is reliable
- syncing is very fast, lightning fast than with MC App
SA Bonus :
- clean and modern UI (MC App seems outdated)
- more informations about each move, graphs & co

SA vs MC app, yes… vs MC web, no…
-
@TELE-HO Totally agree : SA with full support (structured workouts / routes) + actual MC Web rebranded as New Suunto Web platform = killer combo !

@Saketo-Nemo
mainly good news -
@Saketo-Nemo
but what’s not clearly stated here is: will movescount webservice (the new renamed one) be compatible with SA and S9ers? My assumption would be yes as there will only be SuuntoLink and this should serve all watches in my understanding. -
So it looks like good news unless you use structured workouts on Ambit3 (which I do a couple of times a week), in which case you lose the ability to create / change them at some point not far after December 18th. Or unless you use the Movescount web facilities for analysing training, in which case you lose those next summer.
Given that Suunto have explicitly stated they won’t add structured interval creation to SuuntoApp, the only possibility is if they’re going to add import of workouts from 3rd Party Services e.g. TrainingPeaks.

@amasidlover
what I understand they keep key functions from MC for Ambit/Traverse, for me this includes structured workouts.
But this will not come to S-line. Maybe this will be done with “new benefits from partner ecosystems”? -
@TELE-HO I’m looking specifically at this: “enable key functionality (including watch settings, routes and sport mode customization) for Ambit (1, 2 and 3)” - I suppose it could be read as they might keep structured workouts, but firstly, they don’t explicitly say that and secondly, to do so they’d have to write a whole new web based structured workout creator. I’m struggling to see them writing a whole new, fairly sophisticated, bit of functionality into ‘legacy Movescount’ - particularly given that they’ve ruled out doing it for S9 owners in SuuntoApp and the pace of the rest of their development.
-
@amasidlover
I’m not sure if they rewrite it or if they just cleanout things… it is not stated clear either if analysis in MC will be possible and if MC web will become SA’s desktop version, which I would absolutely vote for! -
@TELE-HO "We will no longer call it Movescount and its role in our services will be to enable key functionality (including watch settings, routes and sport mode customization) for Ambit (1, 2 and 3) and Traverse family watches only. "
I’d interpret that as it will only be for changing settings on older watches and nothing else.

@amasidlover
this could be right…
I mean basically, it’s really really good news for my relatives and friends using Ambit (and for myself as I still have A3PS). But I hope Suunto does not want us to use SA without their own official web service.
Yes there are alternatives or “partners”.
But I don’t understand why it should not be possible to put up a web end with all the parameters and improvements that are being done right now for SA?! -
@TELE-HO Sadly I’ve had to become quite cynical about sports tech - when it comes to hardware I only buy stuff that has all the features I need already present (and don’t rely on promises of future updates) and when it comes to cloud based analysis/storage I make sure I have an offline backup of all my workouts and one eye on what else is out there.
I’ve moved analysis software a number of times now after ‘updates’ from the supplying company…
But this is the first time I’ve had a supplier threaten to take away functionality from a hardware device I already own, that’s a new low…
