Hello - I have a new Suunto 9. The touch screens work in some cases, but not while I am recording an activity. The manuals that I can switch screens while recording by pressing the middle button or tapping the screen if touch is enabled. Tap or swipe does nothing in record mode. I really need to this. To wake up the backlight you need to press a button. The only logical one is the middle one and that switches to another screen, and that mean I have to press it 3 more times to get back to the first screen that I wanted to look at in the first place. What’s up with this? :”)

    Thank you!
    Rich

You have disabled touch screen during activity. It saves some batery in wuth this setting I use Movescount and I can show you this setting. If you use SA, then someone else will help you

within an activity (start screen, where it locks satellites and your HR), create a custom battery mode. when you go thru the settings, the last one is “touch enable”, toggle this on.

My battery modes are all customized based on performance mode but with touch enabled.

In the start screen of your sport mode on the watch, go down with bottom button, you will have settings. There, you may find a setting to enable touchscreen. (maybe in the battery mode menu).
S9 users will be more precise if you don’t find it.

Backlight can be switched on right before you press Start to start an activity. In the screen where you can press Start, press down a couple of times. There you will find the backlight option. If you are already recording an activity, press the middel button a couple of seconds. This will open the options menu. Then repeat the steps above.

Touch screen can be enabled/disabled in the same menu. Under the battery settings.

For most of my sports I disabled touch because of the sensitivity with waterdrops or even sweat when you wear a shirt with long sleeves

Thank you everyone! I think I see how this all ties together now. Makes sense.

I will say thought that leaving all this to do in the watch as opposed to the leaves a lot to be desired. Even Epson found a way to manage all these settings in their app. Splitting them up feels just odd. 🙂 Sill, I love the watch.

@Rich-Price I absolutely agree, I have used the Suunto Spartan and Suunto 9 for years and have been unable to figure out how to activate touch for a friend, who is (of course only) using SA, as he is new to the Suunto universe… and still loves his watch unconditionally.
I gave up, till I found this post… and fixed the issue easily via Movescount on my PC, in which all these settings for the exercise types can be found in one place … which feels very logical! (And no, I won’t mention - again - that I really like to have a website … and not only a screen-limited app with quite a number of bugs (not (only) missing features but bugs (e.g. comparison of fastest identical/similar routes is crap; etc.))

Yes, logical place for this setting. I am very familiar with this on Movescount. Not to mention, that EACH sport mode has these seperate settings

this remains in SA. It is not possible to copy-paste a sportmode setup.
It would be very helpful to do that as for hiking and skitouring and cycling and MTB the basic settings I use are identical.
I am very scared of the day when I need to do this again one by one especially as there is no backup of the setting as far as I know
