Why is there no adaptive training plan in this model? Will it be implemented?

exists on watches intended for other types of users. I imagine that for Suunto, S9, represents a watch intended for a user who has long learned to manage their training loads, so no, I don’t think it will ever be implemented
        but it’s just my thought

@Saketo-Nemo But in the case of competitors, functions are implemented in all models…

@QwertyBoy Even VO2 Max, fitness age, resources, and other Firstbeat goodies came to Suunto 9 well after it had been introduced, mostly following users’ outcry that started with the introduction of Suunto 5 that had it all.

I think as @Saketo-Nemo said: adaptive training plans will never make it to Suunto 9. This is a performance watch intended for the audience who has figured out their training and periodization. More importantly, the plans might not be adequate for said audience to begin with. I’ve seen dozens of posts complaining about lack of VO2 cals. You are the first to raise the issue of adaptive plans 😀

You can also look at it in a cynical way: Suunto is paying licensing fees to Firstbeat for each and every feature like VO2 Max or adaptive plan. S9 wasn’t meant to have any of them, and so licensing costs were never embedded into S9 price. To their credit, Suunto has chosen to meet users half way (actually, pretty much all the way) by giving these features at no extra cost to existing users. But we have to be reasonable… Or Suunto might adopt Garmin’s model: release slightly refreshed S9 every year, add a Firstbeat feature or two whether you need it or not, and charge extra $100.

              It’s a corporate decision … good or bad , that’s it.
Maybe it will be changed in future, but no one knows 😄

Yes, some functions are implemented in each model, others are not. As in Suunto. I believe that more than a technical choice it is a commercial choice. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, I’m just giving a possible explanation 😉

So, what about releasing the new Suunto 3, where written, that Suunto 9 is capable of training plan: “Как и модели Suunto 5 и Suunto 9, они поддерживают персональные адаптивные рекомендации по тренировкам” - google translate: “Like the Suunto 5 and Suunto 9 models, they use personalized adaptive training recommendations.”

@QwertyBoy I do not want adaptive training on my main watch. It does not work for my training or my competition. The S5 training plans I have tested and they are great for getting into shape but if you compete I don’t find them useful.

@QwertyBoy Original documentation error? Translation error when Russian pages were created? 🤷 Where are you quoting from? Regardless, Suunto 5 does have this feature. Suunto 9 clearly doesn’t and nobody in these forums heard about the feature being added. In fact, if this happens before other improvements people have been asking for years, there will be blood in the streets…

Alright, reading the English version of the announcement is more clear. It is different from your Russian to English translation, much different:

Like the Suunto 5 and the Suunto 9, the Suunto 3 is more than just a fitness watch, with personalized adaptive training guidance and holistic 24/7 activity tracking including step count, sleep quality, stress, and recovery.

Basically it just says that is more than just a fitness watch 🙂

In english sounds a bit different

" Like the Suunto 5 and the Suunto 9, the Suunto 3 is more than just a fitness watch, with personalized adaptive training guidance and holistic 24/7 […]"

@QwertyBoy Bad translation indeed. Here’s original English: “Like the Suunto 5 and the Suunto 9, the Suunto 3 is more than just a fitness watch, with personalized adaptive training guidance”… Proper translation to Russian would be: “Как и Suunto 5 и Suunto 9, Suunto 3 – это больше чем просто спортивные часы, с адаптированными планами тренировок”…

Планы и прочее относится к Suunto 3, не более. Sorry!

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Russian translation of Suunto 3 rename press release makes it seem like Suunto 9 has adaptive training plans, which it doesn’t. Better update it before there’s a class action lawsuit 😧

My previous post gives correct wording in Russian. Actually, I don’t like that translation one bit. The whole paragraph should be approached differently. Not literally as above.

@NickK Is nice to have if implemented, but personally is more important to have asymetric intervals or even autolaps add-on for SuuntoPlus.

Maybe someone wants adaptive training plans and baro, which is not included in S5. Maybe someone finds S9 more attractive than S5 plus wants all the features. Features sell stuff, look at mobile industry so many functions (core, ram, pixels, lens number) advertised in mobiles and in the end we use 5% of capabilities. Final call is up to management decision, but I believe extra features would make S9 more interesting to more people.
