Ambit 3 Peak - Unable to setup correct altitude.

Hi There,
I did multiple tests and tried different things - but i’m not able to keep my altitude in standby mode correct and stable…

I tried to correct Sea Level Pressure according to the Lufft Weather station WS510-UMB - which sits next to my office - and after few minutes watch change it automatically to different value and does not keep it stable.

So i tried to modify manually Altitude - using Google Earth - as per recommendation from
here. but same results - after few minutes/ seconds watch is changing it and not keeping it stable.
I supposed to be at 3m - but it jumps from -4m up to 10m.

I understand that measurement might be different indoor than outdoor - but fact that it jump +/- couple meters on and on - is not normal to me.

I tried to Force reload software - but same thing. Same results when i put manually my location vs automatically detected (only outdoor).

Can you suggest anything else for me to test it ?

a few meters are a minor difference. I don’t think you can get more precision

this amount could also be caused by windy weather or an instable room ventilation. Ambit has a very direct sensor output while eg S9B has some delay

What alti-baro profile are you using? If set to altimeter, your watch will all changes in air pressure interpret as changes in altitude. If set to barometer, all changes will be interpreted as changes in air pressure. You should be using automatic profile, as it changes between altimeter and barometer profile automatically. Then when in office, and someone opens the doors or windows or air conditioning kicks in etc, those will not be interpreted by watch as altitude change.

If you are already using automatic profile, then you should try cleaning the holes on your watch where your baro sensor is. gentle toothbrush can help and some water. Also, you can try soaking your watch for some time in warm water, lets say 15 minutes, then try blowing out the remaining water from baro holes and repeat again. Do it few times and then see what happens.

And another thing. Temperature also affects barometer sensor, so try wearing your watch little tighter on your wrist so the there is no sudden temperature changes when you enter or leave heated rooms.

And keep in mind that the watch will not be using fusedalti (correction of altitude using GPS) when not running exercise mode and will only rely on barometer and temperature, so some error is normal.

Thank you @Prenj for that advice - I will follow your instruction on cleaning - to see how it goes - as watch is being setup in Auto mode.

That kind of information should be defenitely placed in FAQ - so i wouldn’t bother all of you guys

@vgnjhd it also depents on the current weather changes. if the airpressure change for more then 5m (1mbar= 8meters, so around 0,63mbar) in 3 minutes the watch switches alti mode. when the pressure change is smaller then 0,63mbar in 12 minutes it changes back to baro mode. (as i remeber correct)
it is documented in the manuall. so depending on the buildings Air-flow-System (open close doors), it will allways change if the pressure change is too high. on all the manufacturers. but i can tell you, it is much more consistend then for example on garmin auto mode. i would not care about.
