This may be a previous discussion but I cannot find it. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for Iphone users? Thinking in particular about Microsoft Outlook and other functionality questions. I’m coming from an Apple Watch which clearly integrated perfect with the Iphone. Hoping for suggestions to integrate the watch as best as possible to the Iphone; not asking about fitness related questions at this time. Also, is the only way to download apps through the actual watch? Having a hard time navigating the Wear OS world!

You can go to Google Play store on the web, search for the app in question (use devices drop down to limit results to Suunto 7), then click install, which should let you choose your Suunto from all registered devices. The apps would be installed OTA.

Is there any way to have the watch auto update the weather and heat map? I travel often and not sure what prompts the update. I’ve been back home for several hours and also connected to the app but no updates to the weather or heat map.

To be more specific, it’s still reflecting the data from when I was in Cleveland this morning. Again, coming from Apple watch all data was live and constantly updating without any push. My hope was a watch that would update and mirror my phone without having to get it out and connect etc.

So, is the watch connected to your phone or not? Has time been updated to the correct time zone?

Also, what do you mean by weather? Information from The Weather Channel displayed in Assistant and watch face tile, or some other, perhaps third party weather app/complication?

The watch has been connected to wear OS and my phone all day. It shows connected on the app.

I’m specifically talking about the weather tile and I also show the temperature on my watch face (heat map) and the weather is all reflecting another city.

Time zone did not change so can’t tell much from that perspective.

@Sarah-Gribble This is strange, I commute about 35km to work and my S7 updates the heat map and weather based on my position nearly instantaneously. I also have an iPhone. I assume you are asking about the heat map watch face and not heat maps in the Suunto app. The latter require connection to power and WiFi for the update. Yours should update appropriately. When you check the watch by swiping from top to bottom of the screen, does the watch display the BT connection icon? I travel often as well and have not had either of these issues, it should work better.

If all seems to be ok, just attempt a soft reset of the watch by 12s press of the upper left button. I have had my S7 for a number of months as I am a field tester. Initially I had update issues for the heat map but that was corrected long ago.

I also have an AppleWatch 4 so feel free to ask me questions. If you have general questions post on the thread I started regarding iOS.

I did a soft reset and my heat map seems to be active and updated; however, weather is still showing OH when I’m in TN. Oddly enough on the hourly breakdown it’s updated for the correct time but weather isn’t changing to where I am. So it isn’t as if it isn’t updating because it’s got the current time on the 3 hour weather estimate.

Quick update- the weather has adjusted. Strange. I didn’t change any permissions or settings but it’s updated now.

Assuming the watch is operating correctly, should I be seeing real live data on my watch without any push or force updates from the phone?

@Sarah-Gribble Weather for tile comes via Google Assistant, and any changes there may take hours to push through. For example, if you change from F to C for your temps, the change won’t stick immediately. There’s a great deal of latency involved as things have to sync to Google Assistant cloud and around.

For weather, I recommend AccuWeather and their complication. The app hasn’t changed in years, sadly, and it doesn’t update consistently either, but at least it updates and it gets the memo when locations change.

You should. But there are two hurdles. The latency in Google Assistant provided weather (see my post above) and Wear OS app on iPhone which is known to have a mind of its own.

@NickK I have not had much luck with AccuWeather. Without the app on iOS it is even worse. I do not recommend it at all.

@Brad_Olwin I like this! Cool face. Thanks for the information. I’m doing all I can to make this my apple watch 🙂 . For my fitness and tracking the apple watch was perfect with integration into my phone and daily life; just did not like the aesthetics at all. Any other tips/tricks that you’ve found to help mirror that functionality are greatly appreciated as I don’t have any specific questions necessarily at this time.

Presently Wear OS device can’t quite compete with Apple Watch even when paired to Android, let alone iPhone. Sure, there are some bright spots where it shines, but when it comes to a complete package… Sadly you will have to accept compromises for the time being.

That being said, the aesthetics is there for S7 as is the sports tracking and hardware. Hopefully, things get better. But it’s up to Google to start taking wearables seriously. There’s only so much Suunto can do building on a shaky foundation.

@NickK Yep- I’ve realized this. I think so far it’s worth the compromise but still working through it. I’m also testing and considering the Fenix 6 Pro which I know is a whole different breed.

@Sarah-Gribble I have F6X in my stable, and what it does it does extremely well. Be it sports tracking, activity tracking, music, battery life, waterproofing, various Firstbeat analytics, connectivity, structured workouts and TP integration. That being said, F6X is in the drawer and S7’s in on my wrist:

                                          • Garmin devices, even with the latest ConnectIQ, remain sports watches with some smartwatch features, but it’s a long-long way to Wear OS based smartwatch
                                          • There’s something to be said about weight and bulk: S7 has the same 1.4" screen, yet it is significantly lighter and somewhat thinner and sits better on your arm
                                          • Speaking of screens… You just can’t compare them – brightness, resolution, color
                                          • Touch controls
                                          • I’d take Suunto’s design over Garmin any day and it seems to be more robust scratches-wise too
                                          • Garmin Pay is no comparison to Google Pay in terms of coverage
                                          • Apps, from task management to Google Keep to Outlook emails – you won’t get any of that on Garmin
                                          • Offline maps from Suunto are for anywhere in the world, updated automatically; for Garmin it’s a region you bought it in. Sure, you can download and side-load other maps, but it’s jumping through quite a few hoops
