@Alejandro I switched from 3 suunto HR belts and am now on HR10 number 3! It works great when it works but I keep getting reading drop outs - has this happened to you? Works fine then suddnely down to around 50… I have tried all the tips. If I take off the module and put it back on then it works - but this is useless in a race or hard training run and just annoying to keep having to do on runs. Anyone else had this problem?

@loopylou72 Hmmm, that’s a lot of HR belts ya went through… Sounds like you’re a very heavy user – maybe you’re just one of the unlucky ones that go through 'em regardless? Were all the belts reading off of the same watch? Maybe there’s the issue? Otherwise, I’ve no idea. Sorry!

@loopylou72 maybe something else in the system is the underlying problem. How do you wear the belts (position, wet/dry, shirt material, weather etc)?

@loopylou72 I have used a lots of suunto straps, then I switched to the polar H10 and now I’m using the polar OH1.
In my case, the behavior with the Suunto smart sensor was high spikes (over 200 bpm) when the strap was starting to fail, you can clean it but in a few runs it is out again, then with the polar H10 when it started to fail instead of spikes I got sudden drops, first I thought it was the strap but it was the battery that was starting to be low (the polar H10 has quite high battery consumption). I had to ditch the chest straps due the bruises that they proke me and I switched to the polar OH1 and I’m pretty satisfied with it, the downsizes, in my opinion, are that the battery doesn’t last much and that the reactions in HR changes are a bit slower that with the chest straps.

@cosmecosta thanks for this - the Polar app says the battery is full but maybe the app is incorrect. I will change it and see. Is the OH the arm band? Do they work OK? thanks for responding!

@Alejandro 3 suunto HR monitors - just got them replaced when they failed then gave up and bought the polar. Worked fine and then starts to drop. Polar also replaced it - twice… now am giving up on Polar! Yes I run about 100km+ a week and use it on every run.

@Egika yes have tried different positions, back to front even. Different watches, gel/saliva! Maybe it is my heart!

Yes it is the arm band, and for me it works OK, I’m using it for more than a month.

@loopylou72 The only other thing I can think of is that I always disconnect the H10 sensor from it’s belt after every activity, as it tends to rinse-out the battery (not sure if it’s still maintaining a Bluetooth connection after the activity), and a failing battery would also make the HR reading drop way lower than it should (but I’m assuming that Polar support would have tried that with you before sending you new ones?).

Or maybe it’s just your super-efficient-Tony-Stark-like-iron-man heart, for the win. 🙂

Otherwise, like cosmecosta says, try a Polar OH1 or a Scosche Rhythm+ . I prefer the chest belts, but they may work out better for you. Happy Hunting!

I am a Wahoo Tickr Fit (armband) user for more than 15 months now (3-7 runs a week, up to 100km/week) and very satisfied with the performance and comfort. I can most certaibly recommend these armbands - as can my wife who is using one, too. Before that I used a Scosche Rhythm Plus armband, but the battery time of the old version is too short. Otherwise recommended, too , although the newer Scosche Rhythm 24 should be better (but is too expensive and hard to find in Germany)

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling mostly through the northern german "wilderness"

@Alejandro thanks I used to take the module off but then wondered if that made any difference and got lazy! I will do it every time! I changed the battery today even though the Polar app says it is full… thanks so much for the help hopefully this will do the trick!
