Background; I’ve had my Ambit3 for 5.5 years and done ~5,000 workouts with it so I know what is normal behaviour for it…

Its currently in a cycle workout; I can pause and un-pause, change screens, change the bottom data field with the view button and turn the light on and off - so all buttons appear to be physically working…

However, none of the long press features are working so I cannot; stop the workout, change sport mode, get into the menu (with the next button), lock the screen or even reset the watch using the top two buttons.

I’ve tried connecting the watch to Moveslink but although it starts charging (battery icon at the bottom shows moving bars), Moveslink does not recognise it.

    Help!!!

The only thing I can think about is letting it discharge and see if the behavior persists.

Update… I remembered there was a 5 button reset option (which didn’t come up in a google search) - the watch has restarted and is currently syncing with my phone. I’ll see if its behaving normally after that …

@amasidlover A quick check suggests it is back to normal; although unsurprsingly it has lost the workout I was stuck in… But I’ll forgive it one software glitch in 5.5 years - my Garmin 310XT used to require a hard reset at least once a month (and then the pain of setting up all my data fields again - it still makes me shudder at the memory)…

Just for the sake of future users, can you write down how the 5 buttons reset work?

@isazi You hold all 5 buttons down at the same time (for me I found it was easiest to do view and lap with my thumbs and the other three with fingers) for a few seconds (it was no more than 10). The watch then goes blank, a progress bar then comes along the bottom and it comes back to almost normal - it had the wrong time (but correct date) and has lost all my activity/recovery stats but not my running performance figures.

@Mff73 I really hope so too; sadly I do use wireless sync of routes and structured workouts quite a bit so when Suunto disable the Movescount app I’ll have to see how long I can put up with not having those functions.

I have no idea what I’ll buy instead as every watch on the Market is currently a step down (for my specific use case) in at least one respect from the Ambit3…

@Mff73 I hadn’t thought of that - all 5 thousand workouts back-to-back and then just veg out on the couch with huge quantities of Junk food for the remainder of the next 5 years 🙂

@amasidlover said in Stuck in workout mode:

However, none of the long press features are working so I cannot; stop the workout,

                        You can actually stop without a long press: Pause >> Back/Lap >> Stop Yes/No >> Save Yes/No
But it would have probably helped only if there were some kind of mechanical issue with buttons - short presses are coming through while there are intermittent issues with long presses.

@margusl That’s super useful! I occasionally start a workout to check if a sensor is working after a battery change or something and then have to delete them from Movescount, TrainingPeaks and Strava - I had no idea there was a way to stop a workout and not save it.

Although I definitely prefer the default to be to save the workout rather than having to make sure I don’t hit the wrong button at the end of a workout and accidentally discard it (mentioning no names cough Garmin 310XT cough)…
