@Brian-Huffman - I think for most people this really isn’t an issue, as they only have the one watch S7 and they wear it all/most of the time. So this is never really an issue for them.
Even though I don’t need to, i have actually disabled my google fit phone app activity. And i think this is partially why suunto have gone the route they have so that settings like this don’t cause an issue, causing steps etc to be double counted.

I am on a couple of forumns and its interesting to see how manufacturers have all gone for slightly different routes on this. With the TWP3 (ticwatch pro 3) most of them have had to disable google fit on the watch to prevent this sort of issue occuring; and have also seen issues where fossil users have had some wild step counts which have been caused by other apps and google fit on the phone. So I think the method that suunto has used makes sense for the vast majority of users who I think probably only have the one watch.

Am also suprised at how many of you are using google fit to view steps etc - don’t use it for that at all - only use it now to track blood pressure, sleep and weight, as using suunto app to do the rest.

@Jamie-BG Thank you for the response. I get what you’re saying. As an explanation, I LOVE the Suunto 7 for running. I had a Fossil Sport prior to the Suunto 7 and it was HORRIBLE. It truly makes a difference to use a watch made by a vendor that caters to sports enthusiasts.

That being said, for every day use and especially for “dressier” events, I actually prefer another watch. The Suunto 7 is utilitarian in looks (which is perfectly fine for outdoor use) and because it is big and bulky it catches on things like long shirt sleeves, jacket sleeves and sweatshirt sleeves. So ideally (for me) I will swap out watches depending on what I’m doing. It sounds like I’m in the minority. But just figured I’d explain the rationale.

@Brian-Huffman deactivate Suunto’s syncing to Google Fit and deactivate the salmon.overlay as described in one of my posts. Then everything is fine and steps and heartrate from S7 will be added to Google Fit without overwriting data from other devices (smartphone, WearOS watches). 👍

Hi @pilleus first post on here and 7 owner from Christmas, would you be able to give me a more in-depth step by step walkthrough on how to do the salmon overlay deactivation please.
I have the Suunto 7 and also a Garmin fenix 3HR, I use the Garmin most work days and Health Sync transfers all the data into Google fit fine. When I get home I then use my suunto 7 for the rest of the day and none work days to track any activities I do ( mountain biking, fitness workouts etc) when the 7 sync to Google fit it over writes the data collected from the Garmin, this is exactly what was discussed earlier and as I read it deactivating the salmon overlay will stop this?
            Thanks in advance
            Simon
Apologies for the long first post.

@moodydaddy okay. here we go …

                  Smartphone:

                  • Install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgutman.androidremotedebugger&hl=de&gl=US

                  S7:

                  • Open settings - system - info and tab continously onto build number until the message appears that you are developer now
                  • Go back to settings and scroll down to developer options
                  • Open it and scroll down to ADB debugging and enable it
                  • Enable debugging over WLAN and wait until the wifi is connected and the IP adress appears in the text

                  Smartphone:

                  • Open remote ADB shell and enter the IP adress of the S7
                  • Connect to S7 and allow on the display of the S7 the connection to your smartphone (once or trust it forever)
                  • Type in the textfield of the remote ADB shell: pm disable-user --user 0 com.google.android.wearable.app.overlay.salmon
                  • Press ENTER to send the message
                  • Type in the textfield of the remote ADB shell: cmd overlay disable --user 0 com.google.android.wearable.app.overlay.salmon
                  • Press ENTER to send the message
                  • Long press somewhere in the upper half of the remote ADB shell and choose Exit terminal to disconnect the S7.
                  • Close the remote ADB shell

                  S7:

                  • Go to settings - developer options and deactivate debugging over WLAN to disconnect wifi. DON’T forget it!!!
                  • Reboot the S7

If you want a customizable heart rate reading (5 or 10 or 15 or … minutes) or a complication for your watch face, install on the S7 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magic09.hearttrace&hl=de&gl=US

If not, enable in Google Fit the 24/7 heart rate measuring and disconnect the Suunto wear app on the S7 from Google Fit.

Now you will have all activities, steps and heart rate values in Google Fit on the Smartphone and in Google Fit on the S7. Even the heart rate measured with other watches.

                  Enjoy! 👍

@pilleus If I deactivate the salmon overlay, do I still need to deactivate Suunto’s syncing to Google Fit to get this to work? What does each each of these do independently? Thank you so much for your guidance on this!

@Brian-Huffman Google Fit is recording heart rate, steps and calories natively if enabled in Google Fit app on the S7. Suunto wear app does sync additional activities to Google Fit. I have deactivated this option, because I use the way Suunto wear app to Strava to Google Fit, to be sure that nothing is overwritten by Suunto in Google Fit. 😎

@Brian-Huffman part of the reason why I went black and black, as really understated, and putting a dress watch face on it, makes it look the part.
Re catching on clothing - not an issue for me, but maybe because I have always previously had large bulky watches (first one in a long time that isn’t rated for 20bars); so have become very used to working around that issue i.e. how I remove my clothes and I tend to put the cuff in behind the watch, wearing it slightly more loosely (that way also don’t have to shoot my cuffs to see the time).
Due to low bezel also find that it seldom if ever catches.

Nice feature, should be added to Suunto wear app too… 👍
