        This is a big update.

Wondering how will sync between s7 and s9.

The s7 is getting better and better.

Is turn by turn powered by komoot really a ā€˜system update’ !?

Surely this is really just an app partner integration and the watch function is just the ā€˜following a GPX that has waypoints’ that has been included since the last update? (unless the pop-ups get some kind of Komootification?!).

Think I’ll be sticking to my ā€˜define a route in plotaroute and add my own navigation points’ approach, I’ve tried Komoot before and its not really very good for running šŸ˜•
…just created a 5k test route that would need a max of 5 alerts to follow the route. When it syncs to SA, I can see its created TWENTY EIGHT direction waypoints!!!

Maybe fine for walking, but running or cycling, that is going to just give constant vibrations!! Not only that - I looked at some of the Waypoints, and there was such as ā€˜U-Turn’ added, even though the route was a straight line at that point!

Do like the other things coming in this update though.

Will be interested to find if this means can disable Google Fit background heart rate and all the other Google Fit integration. It will seem a MUCH more cohesive offering having heart rate, sleep etc just as another tab in the SA alongside the existing steps and calories.

Yeah, in my opinion this was the last piece in making the S7 daily tracking experience feel complete. Glad there’s no reason to have Google Fit on my phone anymore.

@aleksander-h unfortunately I still need it to track weight and blood pressure…
Now when SA provides health tabs too - that will be awesome.

Could easily add/remove by having a settings where you can toggle which tabs to have. Could even do a user created one which gives basic graph functionality - so could track equipment.

I forgot about weight. Always wondered why that was only present on the watch itself. I would think plenty of people would want to track that.

@aleksander-h so S7 needs to be able to coonect to smart scales (maybe with the correct app it already does that?) Never dug into this as my weight is constant.

@egika all they need is ability to register weight in the Suunto app on Android and iOS, then that weight gets synced to any watches you have while also offering a weight graf to track progress. No need for a connected scale.

@aleksander-h I have a set of Withings Wi-Fi scales (highly recommend by the way!) which when i take a reading sync my weight to every app I use (Withings, Google Fit, Strava, etc) either directly or via each other.

Every app that is, except Suunto, where I am forced to enter my weight on the watch using the less than perfect UI.

If this could be automatically updated, and then tracked within the Suunto App that would be a HUGE boon for me šŸ™‚

@olymay I think the weight in the Suunto app on the watch is used only for estimating calories burned during an activity.
1-2 kg variation has minimum impact over the calories burned so there is no need to update the weight every time you take a reading with the scale.
Yes, it will be great to sync automatically, but there so many other features missing which are more important for some of us šŸ˜„

Regarding the new features of the future update (sleep, body resources and daily HR) this is a massive improvement, the biggest one until now in my opinion.

Only now the watch will be a complete package as a fitness device intended to be worn daily (as WearOS devices are indented)

Maps and route navigation which was the focus until now, are more a niche features in my opinion.
Who really needs these feature will always look first at other devices like Garmin and other Suunto watches and not at a WearOS device.

@steff agreed, the weight in the watch i only for calories. but it would be really great to have it tracked in the Suunto App on the phone, as this really help when monitoring health etc (for example in the Withings app I can clearly see when lockdown started in the UK, just by looking at my weight!).

Every user is going to want different features, so the more the device has the more people are likely to buy it.
Personally, I would love it to track my weight, but most important for me is for the Suunto App (on the watch) to support external sensors. So that I can connect an external HR when cycling, or when it’s crazy cold, or connect a Stryd power meter.

I personally think the maps and routing on the Suunto 7 is one of (if not THE) best in the business. It seems better than the S9 (based purely on comments on this forum) but it spanks the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro as a friend of mine has one of those and i’ve been able to compre. She is a true Garmin Girl, but readily admits the S7 is better for maps and routing.

Agree with this and I am someone who uses Maps and Routes extensively on S7.

I find S7 route navigation usability and readability to be considerably better than Garmin (I’ve used a 945) and the breadcrumb approach that current iterations of Coros watches do, I’m surprised a bigger thing isn’t made out of the capability, but likewise I do acknowledge the rounder picture that comes from all that ā€œconnected fitnessā€ stuff that is aimed at much more people (and which I’m obviously going to take advantage of too).

One of the biggest request in the s7 launch threat was the integration with Suunto app. With the update looks like we will have it that’s why for me is a huge improvement of the user experience. I won’t use google integration and I’m happy with that.

Will the owner of two Suunto watches sync the data in Suunto app? Apparently and it is great. Now we have POI, maps, great screen and integration in Suunto app. Good!

                                I miss things like these:

                                • an API for the weight and sync/track with services. (as @olymay says)
                                • Sync backwards the calendar view in all my watches. ( I like to track my hours and see it in my watch, specially in the amazing view of the s7 card).
                                • Intervals.
                                • calibrate altitude in wearOS.
                                • stryd connection. (is the biggest issue for me to use the s7 the 80% of the time but not for the majority of the users)

But the s7 is getting rounded and I love it.

About the weight @pavel-samokha maybe could help to ask for it.

I load it once a week as part of my diet tracking into myfitnesspal (only phone at moment), which feeds it into google fit (google fit on watch is always updated for it).
Unfortunately suunto app doesn’t seem to take that feed - you have to manually adjust on the watch - which is a bit of pity, really should just take the feed. Hence part of my reason why I would like to see this added to the suunto app so it can do it automatically.

I think there will be an API for syncing weight to SA one day, but I can’t promise anything on behalf of the company

BTW if this is already public, one more feature in new update will be up to 10 tiles which is great imho

@bulkan I definitely agree about missing intervals, manual calibration of altitude and connecting sensors like stryd. And to that list I would add the ability to set personal HR zones. With these features in place the Suunto 7 would be near perfect.

With these features the Suunto 7 would be a sports watch. These features would let me use the S7 for biking (mounted on the handle bar) and for kayaking (mounted on the deck). But I think another year will pass until these basic features will be integrated. 😠

@pilleus for me the only thing missing anymore after the next update will be the sensor support with Suunto app. I really hope that Suunto will implement it even at the expense of battery life. But at least if I can have that option. For the time being I’ll be using my Grit X + OH1/ H10 for team sports (when the pandemic allows) and S7 for everything else.

@aeroild adjustable HR zones would be nice!

I’m guessing we probably won’t see sensor support until a chip comes out with the ability to do BLE while only utilizing the low power cores. I wonder if the 4100+ is capable of this šŸ¤”.
