How to change Fitness Level in Suunto 9 for calculating EPOC and PTE

    With Movescount I could change my fitness level in Movescount and transfer it to my Suunto 9. Movescount has stopped and I cannot find the option for changing Fitness Level in the Suunto App. This would not be a problem when I could change it directly in my watch. I can change some personal information (Gender, Height, Weight, Year of birth, Heart rate during rest, Max Heart rate) but I cannot change the Fitness level. My question is: “Is this option hidden somewhere in the Suunto App and when yes, where can I find it?”. When it is not in the app, can you add it or introduce this option in one of the next Firmware updates for Suunto 9?

      @albert-willem-knop the s9 does not use fitness level for EPOC and PTE. You can use those numbers independantly from the Fitness level

        The fitness level has always been used to calculate at least PTE and most probably EPOC to. I don’t talk about the fitness level calculated from running or walking as the Suunto 9 does but the fitness level or activity class (Activiteitenklasse as it was called in Dutch in Movescount) that could be found under body parameters (lichaamparameter in Dutch) in my Movescount profile. It runs from 1 up to ten in 0.5 steps. The use of Fitness Level (FL) for calculating PTE is very clear. When I have a FL of 8 I need an EPOC of 22 tot get a PTE of 2.0, EPOC 67 to get PTE 3 and EPOC 155 to get PTE 4. When having a FL of 9 it is 25, 76 and 173. So, you have to train harder/longer for a certain PTE to get an certain training effect. And my feeling is that speed in which the EPOC is increasing gets a little slower when your FL is higher. The last can probably be seen when you look into the algorithms uses in the watch. Of-course I have no access to that but probably you can look into those algorithms.

          @albert-willem-knop I am going to try to ask about this. I personally know that since Spartans were introduced the FL was not used. Don’t know the reason why, and I am not so educated about the way EPOC/PTE are derived

            @dimitrios-kanellopoulos It is important for me as I want to aim for a certain PTE in a session. I could work with a table on my bike or in my rowing boat, but it works much better that I can just see the result on the watch. And even more so when, as I think, the EPOC calculation takes the Fitness Level into account, it it even more difficult to know what I am doing. I pace my training sessions with EPOC. When have a Fitness Level of 8.5 and I need to get to a peak training level of 3.5 (which means a peak EPOC of 124) in a bike ride of 50km, I need to yield 2.5 units of EPOC per km. During the ride I know whether I have to speed up a bit or can slow down a bit to get to the target. As Suunto is one of the only watches that shows the actual EPOC during the session, I bought my Suunto T6c in the past and the Suunto 9 some years ago. To be honest I have to say that the HF measuremente of the T6c is way more reliable then that of the Suunto 9. Changing to a Polar H10 chest HF belt gave some improvement over the Suunto chest sensor, but even then it is worse compare to the T6c. Main problem is that the T6c give increases and decrease of EPOC in 1 unit steps and the 9 sometimes jumps 5-10 units up or down.

              My training program (Firstbeat Athlete) suggests to change it when needed. Higher when I have trained more/longer/harder and lower when I have trained less. When I accept Firstbeat Athlete uses this new FL in when analysing the HF data. Next to that I have to change the fitness level in my watch to get the right information on the watch screen during my training sessions.

                I would check with Support on this one. Unfortunately my Android team confirmed that it was removed and I would assume that the fitness level then stays stable.

                  @dimitrios-kanellopoulos Thanks. Suunto 9 van work with different Fitness Levels but I cannot change it anymore. Changing it through the Android App could be a way to solve it. But an option to change is directly in the watch (similar to change my Max Heart Rate or weight) could be a solution to. I can see some of the bodymetics (Max Heart Rate, Age, weight and gender) in the app, but I cannot change them in the app. This is OK while I can change them in my watch. But, as you confirm, FL is not available in the app and has never been available and changeble in my watch.
