S9/S9B/S9P & Temp POD

I do most of my mountaineering & bivouacking in the winter time, so i need to know what’s the outside temp in real time without taking the watch from my wrist & waiting a fiew min for the resoults (especially when it’s too cold -15°C & under). Taking the glowe off in that kind of cold is a pain in the A… Where can i get a temp POD? Didn’t see any on Suunto site… I know that Garmin has one…

@mountaineerx don’t think it is supported. There are some that collect data and you can see temperature on your phone in real time or after the event.

This is something I’ve wanted ever since the first Ambit came out, and wouldn’t talk to Garmin’s ANT+ Tempe sensor.
Over the years of using a Tempe, though, they have their limitations: when direct sunlight falls on them, they run into issues with absurdly high data. I tried painting one silver once to see if it would improve things, sadly not! On the whole, though, they’re decent, as is the data they provide, and additionally they have a log of the high and the low for the last 24h, which I like when I’m camping (can be retrieved from a widget, ie not during a sport mode). It’s not logged anywhere, but it helps with adjusting insulation choices.
I do question the benefit of showing temperature data on a device that doesn’t have an external sensor: unless the instrument is worn outside of a jacket, or something to keep it away from body heat, that data is contaminated.
Mostly off-topic, but if you want some fun with temperature recording, have a look at https://corebodytemp.com. It’s a device that records skin and core body temperature, and is capable of recording HR too. A harder workout seems to push my core temp up by as much as 1.5C, and a fast descent, even a short one, is enough to show a big drop in skin temperature.

@ze-stuart yeah, I had my Tempe measure temperatures above 50 degrees just because it’s black and gets super warm when in the sun.

@ze-stuart I agree with the issues with temperature when you wear the watch. Something also present in previous generations. I ended up adjusting the temperature. I found out that in normal situations, my Ambit 3 Peak offered around 7/9 degrees over real temperature if the watch was not covered by long sleeve. It is not perfect, of course, but a was very close according to my observations.
