@brad_olwin what I’m saying is according to the picture @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos provided there are two combinations leading to the same result. I’ve checked and it is indeed so.

@дима-мельниченко ideally the raise to wake should be disabled if the backlight is not set to on.

There are with the backlight off 2 raise to wake options , that yes have the same effect. None.

However once the backlight is set to something else those are 2 different options.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos that disagrees with my experience.
If standby is off and raise to wake is either on or exercise only, raise to wake is present only during an exercise.
          My setup:
          S9 non-baro, circuit training
However I don’t think that my results are limited to either one of the above.

            @дима-мельниченко s

According to the above picture when standby light is off raise to wake does nothing. Right ?

If it works for you (I just tested and doesn’t for me) then it’s out of the specs so a bug right ?

              I should think so.

              Probably, yes

                OK, so two questions:

                1. I do not have standby options fixed/adaptive/off, for me it is just simply on/off.
                2. How one does turn off light completely? Now I have standby off and raise to wake off, but light is still triggered by pressing any button. Can I turn it off completely?

@kabzior 1. that’s because the picture is for s9p not s9: adaptive means using the sensor
                  2. I think now you can’t, earlier it was possible with toggle, but now it’s gone

@дима-мельниченко thanks, regarding first one - that’s what i tought, but that’s ok.
but the second one is a bummer, I go for long trekkings and often change between nav screen (with track) and ETA screen, but I do not need backlight, now I think battery efficiency will be lower due to the fact I cannot turn light off. I suppose it might be noticeable in 10-12h activity.

@kabzior doubt it. I never had my backlight on toggle and still was able to meet the predicted battery life. Granted I rarely train for longer than 3h in a row, but still…

I’m very happy about this feature come to S9.

but I just… don’t understand why it turns on the back-light on the moment where I don’t need it; when I need it, it doesn’t turn it on.

last time, when I was running, I rise my arm to watch the time, the back-light is still off, so, I put my arm back, but I noticed the light is ON!
so I raise my arm, and I see the light just turns off just before my eyes.

If you raise your arm fast enough to hit yourself in the head you will see the watch lit:). Just kidding, I think the light is on for too short a time as well. I think if you experiment a bit you will get used to it. I often will raise my wrist then flick my wrist to see the data on the watch before the light goes out.

My wife was curious how this rise to wake works, so on suunto 5. In settings in backlight section i set standby to ON, rise to wake to ON. But it doesn’t work at all. I tried restart watch but no difference. I even disabled do not disturb, auto do not disturb and sleep traking as i thinked that maybe watch think i sleep already. But no luck. Rise to wake doesn’t work for me. Should i use some specific arm movement? Or just is enough to rise hand and turn wrist to direct watch at me?

@tomas5 this indeed should be enough. Maybe try exaggerating the movement a little?
Also could it be that the backlight is just dim and you don’t notice? Try in dark room?

@дима-мельниченко you are right, it is too low intensity to notice in room where is light 😉 so it works fine. Is it possible somehow lower backlight when button presed to this lower intensity too?

Raise to wake mode test: the lighting comes on very frequently only with the usual arm movements of running …

@rob33 @dimitrios-kanellopoulos same problem…with simple movement on run (e.g. skipping) lights on very frequently(without turn wrist)
kinda bug or just high sensitivity…??
