@nigel-taylor-0 good point!
I was more focusing on the capabilities of the Suunto HR strap and sensor though. Ideally this woudl happen on the watch and not in some manual post processing. -

Thankfully I’m not as bothered about ‘running strictly to power’ as I once was…its just nice to have it there for a bit of simple analysis afterwards.

@Brad_Olwin Thanks for the info refering to this topic, I have read it before a little quick and got nor an easy short response not a clue about using the S7 with my HR belt and I’m sorry if I sound rude, but I could just start swearing about how not to do things and would end up a fight fixing nothing, so I prefer not.
Honestly I could never imagine something like this, like buying an electric bycicle which you can not use the pedals anymore, this is the kind of feeling I have now with the S7 not having the most simple and basic option of any HR monitor, the chest belt.
So if someone is happy about this, go and thank the one brilliant mind responsible of this, I am completely not and feel completely frustrated with it.
Again, if there is only one simple at least way to do so I will appreciate the help, otherwise I would be forced to sell it feeling I have just bought my wife an expensive useless piece of ****.

@rhustox a little bit off topic but one can really buy a piece of sh*t and mail it to anyone on the planet. Payment is anonymous by using bitcoin. Can’t recall the website, saw it on vsauce video sometime ago.

Completely out off topic because this is not the topic, I’m not trying to fool anyone, buying or selling, the one fooled here is every person who made possible to loose this simple and basic feature, call it the name you want to call it.
Feeling very disappointed with S7 right now. After one month from the purchase it have been in the official service because there was no way to start any sport. Sport mode app got stuck and a black screen followed by the time display every attempt, not being able to synch it via phone app either and now this great news!
-
@rhustox you might just have an unlucky unit, that’s all.
Concerning HR belt - that would be a deal-breaker for me too, but you may be could have done you research better? Btw you can use an HR belt with other apps on S7 but not suunto and than sync too SA of needed. Also I hear ohr is very good on the unit, maybe it would suffice?
Lastly if you feel like s9/s5 would suit your needs better than s7 as it lacks some features (HR belt, pods, HR zones) you could contact support maybe? I’m think they could let trade your watch for another one with a little extra payment. -
@rhustox The OHR on the S7 is fantastic! I do not wear a belt and can use it for intervals for running. When I find that inconvenient is SkiMo and in bike riding if you want the unit on the handlebars. You can use 3rd party solutions and the belt will work just fine as well as a Stryd. However, you will need to import your workouts into the Suunto app via Quantified Self.
There are a lot of reasons for not incorporating the sensors in the Suunto wear os app but the primary was battery life. Your battery life would be severely degraded with a sensor attached. Personally, I don’t need the sensors and I like my S7 a lot, it is my daily watch and the one I use exclusively when traveling due to the usefulness of the maps. I am more than happy to trade sensor support for 14-18h of GPS tracking in a smartwatch!
As for being stuck in a sport mode or not responding properly, contact support and they will help you.

Research…? Ok, right but you do not expect a new smartphone that will not have Bluetooth anymore because there is Wifi eveywhere. Just a silly example, I don’t know.When we do cycling I prefer having the watch on the handlebar so I can see how I’m doing. I know how I’m doing but instead of wearing it I prefer to see.
Same thing for my wife, instead of me, she would not be able to keep her eye on the watch as she feels unskilled for that, that’s why the HR belt for her.
Shame is why this simple thing couldn’t be just like that easy to get. -

Yeah, I get it and even feeling kind of alone here with my wife a bit upset about both previous malfunctioning and the HR belt thing, I do not think all S7 users are completely happy with this.
Another thing is the battery life, seems like Wear OS isn’t the best option, with so many useless things in it, for my understanding.
In comparison with my S9 seems like the S7 it is build with a joke of a battery. She si plugin it every evening while I do it only twice a week even more than doubling her activities.
Never meant to say not loving it or liking it anymore, actually it is beautiful as most of the brand ones but the thing here it is of feeling kind that was a bad purchase after all. She likes it, but she’s not super happy as she should be, with battery life, with issues mentioned and with the news that should by third party stuff (if that works) to get her HR into the display while wearing the belt?
-
@rhustox I would argue that even Bluetooth needs research. For example not every modern smartphone has Bluetooth 5 which be a deal-breaker for some. Also not every Phone os can take full advantage of Bluetooth as you might know:)
Same is with a watch or any other thing. You do you of course, but I like to list all feature I need in any thing I buy and than start my research to determine whether feature is there and how it’s implemented. -
@rhustox at this point if battery + HR belt is important to you, why not go for s5/s9/s9p?
The latter even has a smaller profile which might be more appealing. -
@rhustox
Your problem is that you saw suunto and thought it was a fitness watch and everything that comes with it.It isn’t a fitness watch - its a smartwatch (with great fitness for a smartwatch) - and when you compare it against its smartwatch competitors (i.e. its market) you will find it compares very favourably in all areas. From capabilities and from a battery life perspective.
If you do want to use HR belts there are options like use SportyGo, Ghostracer just to name two of a host of available options that do support a bluetooth HR belt. Of course can’t guarantee what the battery life is likely to be, but its an option.
-
@дима-мельниченко as said, that was my wife’s decision when going to buy it, after seen the design, color options, price… and let’s say it this way, the colorful display, she prefered the S7.
I have the S9B.
Never thought either of us that that simple function would disappear if older or lower versions just have it. Who would think of?
Now the discussion is not about why me, why us, it is why Suunto did not specify it clearly instead of a nearly hidden and tiny little line in the manual in its heart rate page.
See it yourself:
Should one imagine that by magic powers or has to be psychic that the reading from these two amazing product presentations one has the HR belt option and the other one hasn’t even there is a music upload function? Come on do not take me as an idiot!
Compare yourself and see, if you find it somewere before one starts buying it, instead of reading the whole damn manual, let me know because I may have to buy you a S9P as please:

Again seems like you guys are defending something that easy as a big mistake that was not even mentioned in an easy or visual way for everyone.

@rhustox I might be a little biased on this, as it was mentioned a dozen times on the forum.
But let me tell you - absence of HR belt support and battery life were the exact two reasons my girlfriend didn’t buy an S7. -

Happy now?
Our mistake, Ok maybe. But not a mistake a big brand like this one should be willing to easy make. That’s all.

@rhustox This does not have to be an extended debate, the S7 is unlikely to get sensor support in the Suunto Wear OS app. If your wife needs this, return/sell it and get an S5/S9baro/S9P. Or as has been stated many times use a 3rd party app but battery life will only be 5-6h I believe. That may be enough, it is not hard to import the .fit file back into SA. This is getting silly, I understand you did not know this, that you are disappointed, that is fine.

@rhustox
Big mistake - no mistake from Suunto, it was never intended to pair with a HR strap, as it was never intended as that type of watch.I don’t know about you, but when I consider a purchase, especially one that is a fair bit of money, I tend to do a bit of research, read some reviews, and watch some reviews about a product to make sure its a good fit with me.
Every fitness tech reviewer has made it blatently obvious, often in the pros & cons at the begining of the review that as far as they are concenred from a fitness perspective its missing, due to the lack of external HR support. As most later point out, it really isnt a true fitness, and thus isn’t really expected.All tech reviewers haven’t even commented on it, and why haven’t they, well the review the watch based on its market - the smartwatch crowd who like to do some basic activity tracking and don’t care about HR straps, in fact it the smartwatch category its one of only two smartwatches that comes with a proper HR Zone metering (this is not standard on smartwatches whose activity tracking consists of duration, distance, HR, may speed/pace, with post activity breadcrumb map).
And while Suunto hasn’t obviously stated you can’t pair it a HR strap with the suunto app, it can with other apps, so its not like its actually missing that functionality. If this was so important I would have thought you would check.
When I moved from S7 to Fenix 6x Pro, I seriously considered a S9B / S9 Peak but didn’t buy one as it didn’t tick all the options under my need list and missed a lot under my want list, where as 6x ticked off virtually all of the need & want list.

It’s also shown right there in the Heart Rate section of the basic checklist of features when comparing Suunto products…
https://www.suunto.com/en-gb/Compare-Products/?products=283411%3B247292%3B261241
…the exact kind of place where someone who has an existing Bluetooth or ANT+ strap would be looking to see if they are supported?
