Maybe a stupid question, but: why can’t Suunto release “Suuntolink” as a mobile app?! Then I could change modes etc. on the go without bringing a laptop? Am I missing something here (not a programmer…)

@tomhaegler because if suunto does, it would announce a second digital transition which would make people who prefer using laptop which would prompt suunto to release a suuntolink 2 for desktops only. They someone may ask for suuntolink 2 to be released on smartphones, then suunto would have to announce another digital transition…

Just kidding of course, I don’t know the reason, but I would bet on some hardware limitations, otherwise ambits could be completely supported by SA and suunto wouldn’t need to develop suuntolink 4.0 update in the first place.

That would still leave A1 & A2 out in the cold. The idea is to cover maximum number of legacy devices to at least some extent while keeping workhours and other resources to a minimum. And all pre-9P & -7 watches still need a maintained desktop solution to handle firmware updates, so it kind of makes sense to pack it all into Suuntolink.

Instead of asking for a Suuntolink mobile port, that request should really read “full Suunto App support for all Bluetooth-enabled watches” , and that one has been up like since the days when Ambit3/Traverse support was first introduced in Suunto App betas, three years ago. I personally don’t see that happening, in about a month when Movescount gets taken down, whole digital transition thing will be marked as finished.
