Hi everyone, in the last few days I’ve experienced something that never happened before (I’ve been using my S5 for more than 2 years). For 2 times in a row my Suunto 5 turned off with ~ 40% battery left after 5 minutes into a run. I connected the Suunto to my pc (and the Suuntolink app) and it turned on almost immediately, showing the battery left. I’ve already tried the soft reset, but that didn’t solve the problem. Do you have any ideas? Suunto version is 2.18.18. Thank you!

I noticed that something similar happened to another user, but I don’t know if he/she ever managed to solve the issue

@nicogno If you connect the watch and it turns on does it still show a battery level of 40%?
And if you disconnect it right after it turns on, does it stay on for hours after that or will the watch shut down again?

        @surfboomerang thank you.
Yes, as soon as I connect the watch to the pc it still shows a battery level of 40%. I haven’t tried to disconnect it right after switching on, but I’ll definitely do that and post the results here. I’ve also sent a log to Suunto and the ID is 848697792877615

@isazi it happened around 16 hours ago and I immediately sent the log, but unfortunately I didn’t write down the ID. The one that I included in my previous message was generated one hour ago (not after any issue).

@dmytro it was cold and foggy, around 3 to 5 Celsius degrees. But I’ve been running many times in the cold during the past 2 years (even with -11 Celsius degrees) and never had any issue like this one

@nicogno I think something like that start to occure more as the battery gets older. It happened a lot to my phones, for example. And they too would show roughly the same percentage of battery once connected to a charger.
Luckily I didn’t experience this with my s9, even though it’s 2.5 yo now. Suunto watches are also meant to be operational in up to - 10 C, if I remember correctly, so it’s just a guess at this point.

@nicogno if it happens again, send logs immediately after connecting to Suuntolink.

Have you tried recalibrating the battery? I have a Suunto 5 tested with this firmware and do not have your issue. Perhaps don’t blame Suunto until we know what the cause is.

UPDATE (may be useful): @isazi @DMytro @Brad_Olwin I did a few new activities and it seems like the issue is gone. The only difference between the latest activities (during which I didn’t have any issue) and those during which my watch turned off unexpectedly is the location in which they were performed. Due to covid-19 restrictions I was running around my courtyard both the times when the watch turned off. On the contrary, when running outside I didn’t have any problem. Therefore I believe the issue is somewhat related to the GPS signal being

                                  • either disturbed by interferences coming from my home
                                  • or most probably gone crazy due to the dozens of loops done in a very restricted space (and the roof shielding it)

I believe this is worth being investigated.

@nicogno if you have a way to reproduce the issue, send the logs as soon as possible after it happens. You can use Suuntolink (then copy and share the ID), or Suunto App (in that case we need your username and time and date you sent the logs).

@nicogno I am very sure that the issue was not triggered by position or doing loops. The watch doesn’t care which numbers it writes into the log file and if those numbers repeat or not.
So far this seems to be a glitch and since it is a one-time only event any correlation to the situation in which it happened is speculation.
As Isazi mentions: If it happens again, sending logs as quickly as possible will help the devs.

                                        2.18.18

I’ve experienced the same issue for the third time now.
It never happened while I had the v2.18.18, and since I updated to v2.20.30 I used the watch in very hot temperatures for a few weeks without problems; every time the problem occurred it was at mild summer temperatures.
The first time I was hiking, starting with over 30% of battery and the Battery Low screen appeared after a couple of hours; on the next use, the watch wouldn’t lock the GPS signal with running or walking activities, would freeze for 30 seconds if I navigated back to Exercise and then Hiking, and would automatically go back to the home screen if I selected Exercise --> Hiking directly. Only hard reset made it behave normally again, until I did a Tennis activity, starting with around 30% battery again and failing after 30 minutes.
I followed very cautiously the instructions to recalibrate the battery, but the very next time I started a Run with 21% battery, the same issue occurred within 12 minutes.
Very disappointing for a product that hasn’t even got 6 months.
