      Hello all,

my Suunto 9 Baro crashed today during a TrainingPeaks exercise. First the screen went black (but was still lit) and then it returned to the watch face. When I started a new exercise to record the rest of the exercise, it didn’t catch the GPS signal. The exercise that crashed was recorded anyway.

It’s the first time this happened. Watch, app and Suuntolink are on the newest version. I’ve seen several reports of crashes like this in this forum but none of the threads seemed to come to a conclusion regarding a possible reason. Any thoughts?

I tried to send logs to Suunto but that also didn’t work (yet, it tells me to try again later).

      Grateful for any tips!

      B

@hoxha Most likely a software bug. Might occur tomorrow again or maybe never… who knows.

When sending in logs, also send a DM to the moderators of this forum, otherwise Suunto will not look into the logs at all.

(just now tried sending in logs, works for me)

@twekkel Yeah sending the logs worked this morning. Let’s see if they find anything.

@hoxha I haven’t used the Suunto 9 in over a year but I remember it only crashing whenever it was connected to other sensors (HR monitor, STRYD, etc.) and a Suunto Guide. I did a test a few days ago after seeing this thread and it crashed again. Doesn’t happen every time, but enough to never use the device.

@TyreseJ4 Exactly my experience lately, see https://forum.suunto.com/post/155775. In this case, the Di2 app used to work fine for the past months but in the last two weeks my watch always resets whenever I enable it.

What is more, I have been able to reproduce the crashes in a Running activity too, either when a structured workout is enabled or some other Suunto Plus guide/app. Some of these crashes happen in the middle of the activity, others right at the beginning.

The lack of any sort of acknowledgement from Suunto adds to the frustration of loosing the activity data.

And please, to those inclined to remind us that this is a “community” forum, “no official support here”, “oh you have an old and unsupported watch, please understand and buy the new fancy one”, etc.:

              • The Suunto logo is on the top left.
              • The site is hosted by Suunto.
              • Suunto employees participate in discussions.
              • I have spent several thousand EUR in Suunto equipment over the years, including diving computers, transmitters, compasses, and sport watches. Probably I qualify as a loyal customer, whatever that means.
              • I have recommended all Suunto products I bought over the years to my acquaintances.
              • There is a threshold for the frustration one can tolerate before spending money somewhere else.

              Cheers!

@wachutunai Whenever my Suunto 9 crashed it was always at the beginning of an activity and always during a test. It’s unpredictable. After the last update the watch received I’ve never taken it out and risked a crash in the middle of an activity. Long story short I didn’t trust it; I basically had a “if it crashes now it’ll crash later” mentality. I never trusted this brand after the way they just abandoned this device which was ridiculous since they were constantly rebranding the Suunto 9 with “Peak” and “Peak Pro.”

@TyreseJ4 I think my watch is starting to do much of what you describe.

Yesterday it crashed just seconds after starting a cycling activity with HR, Power, and Speed sensors paired. Note that I did not enable the Di2 Suunto+ App as it would most probably crash the watch.

Result? The watch crashed and soft reset anyway 😒 This had never happened before (crash without a Suunto+ App enabled).

At this point, I have started to think that there is a software+hardware problem which I won’t debug for Suunto, since it is obvious that they do not care either. 25 days since I reported the problem, not a single answer.

Whenever my Suunto 9 dies, it will be my last Suunto, and I will make sure that everybody in my sport/scuba diving circle is aware of it.

And you might think that after recent events, they would not like to be in a position where they are loosing customers that have been around for decades… Go figure!
