Today, Suunto released an update for the Race S.
I am keen to learn whether it will fix this issue as promised.

          @Cherry-Zhang:
I think it got better but still too less. Before the update I once had 2200 steps on a 7k walk, after the update I had 5000 steps on a 6.8k walk.
Of course, it was not the same route and I cannot tell how often I had the leash of our dog in my left hand and how much impact that has.
However, my partner had more than 9000 steps on each walk on her AppleWatch which sounds more probable and normally she has the dog more often than me.

I recently purchased the Suunto Race S and have noticed a significant discrepancy in the step count. My watch is updated to the latest version, but the step count differs greatly from my phone and other devices. For example, my phone recorded 12,000 steps, while the watch only displayed 4,500 steps. Similarly, my sister’s Apple Watch showed 13,000 steps, which is much closer to my phone’s count.

On December 24th, my phone recorded 9,200 steps, but the watch showed only 6,400 steps. On December 30th, my phone logged 10,000 steps, while the watch displayed just 6,700 steps.

Could you please assist in resolving this issue? The large discrepancies are quite concerning and need to be addressed.

It is March and there are still problems with steps counting.
For me it’s steps during activities like Weight training. It seems like during that activity watches just stop counting steps at all. I didn’t found any settings in regard of that issue. Seems like a bug to me.
                Watches have latest firmware.
I, of course, know that this isn’t a reliable metric but I like to know how many steps did a day, and reach daily steps goal. Because I did at least 2-3k steps per workout, with my previous Garmin watches it was never a problem.
Maybe there is some hidden setting I am missing? Or anybody else also have that issue?

I totally agree!! You can check with another watch or your phone and it’s 2.5 times short of what the actual steps are?

I don’t expect it to be perfection. However, when you walk 10,000 steps and it shows 2,500 steps something in off.

@Vitali-Zinevich I’ve noticed that steps aren’t counted during weight training. This can also be seen in the step bar chart in the Suunto App. The problem isn’t limited to weight training, for example, padel is another. And this bug isn’t just present in the Race S model, in my experience, it also occurs in the Race, Vertical and 9P.

Step counting is too short even during running and walking. With Garmin I used to consistently average about 15-17K steps per day. With Suunto Race S, with similar activity, my average number of steps in the last 8 weeks is 12.2K. That is definitely too short!

I do have another problem with counting steps and I was wondering if anybody experienced the same.
Wehen I turn off the watch in the evening and turn it on the next morning the watch will not start counting steps from 0. It shows the amount of steps from yesterday and keeps counting from than onwards.
Is this a bug of my watch or do you recognize the same?

I tried already a factory reset, as well as the bug fix mode. Nothing helped

@sartoric but no solution has been found yet, right?
Not turning off the watch isn’t any kind of solution in my eyes

@Volker - this is clearly not correct behaviour but I suspect the watch code (imseo*) looks for a clock transition from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00, when in fact it should be looking at Last Step DTS (day portion) and comparing to This Step DTS (day portion).

I think to reiterate Volker, these watches aren’t really designed to be turned off overnight, and I’m lucky to be able to charge in the office at my convenience, but Suunto need to take note that some users Use Case is to turn the watch off overnight (at least sometimes).

Hopefully someone from Suunto technical will see the above and implement an appropriate fix…
