@Jan-Van-de-Velde I own both (my SV was send to repair this summer and I couldn’t train without watch, so I bought the SRs). I share all your thoughts. If my SV had advanced sleep tracking (sleep phases), I would probalbly use it every day and night like before… But I now wear my SRs at night to have have sleep phases (and also because it’s lighter and smaller). Screen of the SRs is awesome, but I much prefer the touchscreen navigation between screens of my SV. Build quality is great on both event SV nicer to me (plus sapphire and Ti) Let’s see what Suunto will bring us in the future, but no need to be a genius : next generations of watches will improve amoled watches battery life, and we’ll see OHR and other mesurements tracking improvements. For now, SV + SRs is a “luxury” but lovely combination !

Chase the summit made an interesting comparison on VO2 Max between a lab test and different watch brands. In this video he uses the Race S. I kinda like the results https://youtu.be/i3O1cpQqFhw?si=sgYLZAmd1N595lDx

@FCDsh Titanium is not necessarily a sturdier material over Stainless Steel (unless it’s high grade titanium mixed with, well steel) - in fact Stainless Steel is in most cases studier on the hardness scale, so ‘harder’ to scratch. I think the reason why it looks very scratched is because of the black paint coming off. In the case of the Ti version, the actual metal is brushed so there won’t be much of a colour change and therefore less noticeable.

@Volker - this is clearly not correct behaviour but I suspect the watch code (imseo*) looks for a clock transition from 23:59:59 to 00:00:00, when in fact it should be looking at Last Step DTS (day portion) and comparing to This Step DTS (day portion). I think to reiterate Volker, these watches aren’t really designed to be turned off overnight, and I’m lucky to be able to charge in the office at my convenience, but Suunto need to take note that some users Use Case is to turn the watch off overnight (at least sometimes). Hopefully someone from Suunto technical will see the above and implement an appropriate fix… imseo - In My Software Engineer’s Experience

@GiPFELKiND man your reactions are like you really don’t like Suunto, yet you end up buying every Suunto watch. Why is that?

@erik_ibk I have the same problem and these are vital things to work so I’m really disappointed this issue has been constant for weeks and nothing is being done, even if MANY people are having the same issues. I think I might return the watch since these issues have been here the whole time I have had this. So disappointing. I can’t just be restarting this all the time and I can’t know when it is not going to measure the sleep. So it’s not helping to restart to get that sleep data back. How is it possible that there has been promised update but it’s been WEEKS? this would have never happened with Garmin. So I guess I have to return this then?

I too would love to use mt Race S during swimming, open water, freediving… Love the underwater meter count for dive depth and temperature of water. But in a pool what I think everybody wants is accurate: Pool count Total Lengh Time in water Cheers

@Egika said in Race S Tempting Me Back Into Suunto...: @VoiGAS yes, he was referring to battery saving mode. Back in Ambit times, the low power GPS indeed was not really accurate. You could select between 1s, 5s and 60s fix rate. Yes, it was the 5s mode. Down in the canyons it started to glitch measuring the distance really long and by the end of the race it was doubling the distance, consistently adding 0.01 mile for every 10 steps. Somehow it ended up adding distance from GPS and distance from accelerometer together, which resulted in doubling the distance. Ambit wasn’t as accurate as people think. Yes, at the time it was one of the most accurate watches - thanks to its large GPS antenna. But recently I compared an Ambit 3 Peak track from some years ago against a recent track from Garmin Fenix 7X recorded with multi-band mode. The difference was like day and night - Garmin with dual band was so much more accurate around curves and switchbacks following the trail perfectly. I also think that the Airoha GNSS chipset that was used in Fenix 7 is more accurate than the new Sony chipset used in Race S. The distance is similar, in fact Suunto Race S distance tends to be a tiny bit longer, but Garmin’s track seems to be more precise. Unfortunately Garmin seems to have switched to the new Sony chipset too.

@sracer agree. My biggest annoyance after the charger, which thankfully you don’t need very often is the lack of font sizes. I think I can only give one watch face with seconds on it I can read without glasses ‍️ Do love the vertical, had it over a year now and it has been my companion for many hours and miles but wish they would consider older folk with font size‍️

@RightNow that’s a shame you’ve had bad experience with them: I only have good CS experience with them, they have yet to blame me for anything. Doesn’t everyone run with a trundle wheel…? @far-blue no laces, interesting, though. I hadn’t thought of that. @Richard-McGlory we ‘swapped the pods’: what was 1, is now 2, and the elevation profile is back. Key point: data from the pod overwrites data from the watch, every time, confirmed by their support. I imagine all that’s retained is the HR and GNSS track.

@Stavrogin Well… After two weeks and trying to test things as methodically as possible, my conclusions are the same: when I fall asleep with the watch face upside down, the sleep reading is accurate with respect to the time I fall asleep. Regarding the time I wake up, it’s more variable, although generally quite accurate, in my case. Last night, with the watch updated to version 2.40.38, I tried wearing it on my usual arm, the one that doesn’t leave the watch face down when I fall asleep. Last night, I was especially tired. So much so that I was falling asleep on the couch. I went to bed at 11 PM and I’m pretty sure I fell asleep in 5 minutes. And I got up at 7:30 AM with the alarm. However, in the morning, the log said I fell asleep at 2:46 AM and woke up at 6:48 AM. Sigh… I totally agree with you. It’s frustrating to think that something that wasn’t working before is finally going to work, and it’s still the same… Personally, I’m more disappointed with the swimming measurement, but the feeling is the same. Anyway, it’s only been one night with the new FW, so I’ll keep trying things out. Personally, I don’t care much about what the watch says; I’m not a good sleeper, and this “research” is serving me as motivation to be more aware of what time I go to bed and whether I’m already later than I should be.

@ChrisA I think for a generation of Whoop/Garmin/Oura kids who cannot remember a time when the only running watch was a timex ironman this can probably be very frustrating. We have so many people now that rely on their watches to tell them what to feel or think about a workout. I think it is super important for any athlete to not rely on algorithms and upsold company metrics to tell you how a run went. The magic of Suunto and the runners that it sponsors like Courtney Dauwalter is that they will not promise you gimmicks like body battery and stress scores. They will tell you to learn how to listen to your body as you start to build fitness. They will tell you to check in with your body daily to determine how you feel rather that look at a smartphone app. RPE mixed with heart rate tracking can be a huge part of learning how to train. Zone Sense helps me confirm that information. But it is not a magic button and it does take some savvy and dare I say research (ie reading what kind of workout it is actually for) to understand what it is that it is tell you. One example I have is I did a long intervals session where I thought the RPE was 9-10. The intervals were long enough to register with zonesense and how I interpreted the information was maybe I could have done a bit more.

@Audaxjoe since iPhones seem to work with no issues whatsoever, I would argue it is phone firmware and possibly hard ware.
