Suunto Smart sensor failing
-
I’ve recently had to replace my Suunto smart belt as it had started giving constant false results.
All was well again & it works perfectly until I wear it under a Salomon hydration vest, then it is a total mess…
I wear the same T shirt as I do without the vest but the results are night & day as you can see from the Runalyze screen shots below.
I always soak the entire strap before putting it on & use a water based gel under each sensor pad.
I didn’t have this issue with the old strap (before it started failing) & only replaced the belt not the sensor as per @Brad_Olwin’s recommendation so any idea what’s going on here or how I can sort it out ?Without the vest

With the vest

@Mattg576 I wear a Salomon rest as well with no issues. I make sure the straps are not moving the sensor while running. There is some latitude on the chest where the sensor can record.

Has anyone replaced the belt only & then found the sensor to be at fault ?
Since I posted above I’ve got rubbish results using the new belt pretty much every time I use it (regardless if I wear a vest or not)…
On each of the runs below I wore a different T shirt so I don’t think its down to the fabric causing friction (I’ve read that that can also cause problems).

I’ve edited the title & replying to myself in the hope that it may help someone else in the future.
I managed to return the new belt (got to love Amazon) & bought a complete new set from Suunto in the sale, was only a few quid more than just the belt.
Results have been faultless ever since with or without a hydration vest so if anyone starts getting spurious HR results I’d suggest replacing both the sensor & the belt at the same time (especially if it’s still in the sale).
PS, the old belt was showing signs of degrading but the old sensor appeared to be in perfect condition both inside & out.

@Mattg576 Glad to hear it is working now.
