Race S2 -> release?
-
@Tami999 everything is just speculation of anonymous users at forums. People is really expecting the “Race 2 S”
About the Run 2 I disagree. There’s room for an improved version with more S+ support, better charger, better screen, new HR sensor, better battery life and breadcrumb navigation. With only those things you have a very interesting evolution.
Or perhaps the “Race 2 S” has a physical flashlight or a bigger/better screen (1.4 inches fits), charger, HR sensor…+ everything the Race S has and the Run not, …who knows. I also heard what @2b2bff said in his last post (everything is speculation)If we look at other brands (I.E Coros) they also have things like the Pace 4 and Pace Pro (there is also an speculation about the Pace Pro 2 very soon and the Pace 4 is very new yet)

@dreamer_ i think it will be a new heart rate belt. Today suunto has Something at the FCCID Website

Iam interested. Current one is already long on market if I am not wrong. Wonder what new would eventually bring.

@Tami999 if there is a new hr belt, could it have some improvements for zonesense? Maybe more accurate R-R data or something?
I hope they could make the strap a bit more durable. -
@Tami999 Running dynamics would also be great, a LED indicator and maybe a diving related feature for Ocean/Nautic. Improved Dive track with the additional sensors from Running dynamics maybe? Plus the better quality for Zonesense and ECG
A lot of things are possible

Suunto needs to make their mind about what they want to achieve with Suunto Run.
Suunto Run without any way to send workouts from outside platforms (or even the AI plans…) is a completely half baked product. We have SuuntoPlus Guides created directly on the Suunto App but then nothing else works.
Suunto really needs to focus on training planning and less on hardware:
- We can’t plan a simple workout in the app calendar or add a race/event.
- No web platform for training analysis and workout planning.
I don’t need new features or new watch versions. Suunto Run, Race S, or Race 2 are perfectly fine. But they don’t to have a clear direction. Suunto Run has somes features that other Suunto watches don’t have, like resume later, but lacks others.

@Nelson-Diogo
As a Suunto run user i totally agree with you. It seems like an unfinished product only because of many software problems. But let me praise something: gps, build quality and appearance, and a very good optical pulse sensor (they fixed that with the last updates).
I am getting more and more disappointed to think about moving to a new ship. Waiting to see if the suunto race s2 comes out soon. I don’t want a big watch on my wrist. -
I know quite a few amateur athletes in my athletics club who just want a not that expensive sportwatch that just records their activities. Nobody uses structured workouts.
I think the Suunto run ticks a lot of boxes for that group, except, it’s not from the only brand everyone knows.
More serious athletes first want navigation, preferably with maps, so they can enter trailruns which only provide a gpx.
And there is a handful of people who look at the data or use it to do predefined intervals, or follow a (ai) coach.
-
@BokiRun Yes at least we have those. Indeed the build quality, general UX (watch and app), GPS and OHR are very good.
One other issue is with the Suunto Smart Belt. Sent mine to suunto, received a new one 2 weeks ago and it doesn’t work. It’s completely broken, since it didn’t work with the watch or apps. Even tried with my son’s Forerunner 55. The chest straps suffer from serious quality control issues.
-
@elbee I agree and being involved in running for 15 years I know lots of people that doesn’t care about structured workouts but since Suunto Run supports them there should be a way to plan them more efficiently. Every competitor watch has that possibility (Forerunner 55 or Coros Pace) so l think that a watch aimed at runners should have it. It’s part of the future progression of many runners. Not all but many.
-
@Nelson-Diogo
I gave up on the Suunto smart belt. I now use the igpsport heart rate monitor and it works great with the watch. -
@Nelson-Diogo said:
Not all but many.Your many is based on, what?
But I agree, sportwatches in general have quite a few functions that are not very user friendly or lack finesse.
-
@elbee Most of my friends are runners and I’ve contact with a lot of other runners trough the years. I’ve seen many progress from beginner to advanced amateurs and I also always had an interest in training so I’m well aware of people doing structured workouts by their Strava feed.
Even from my own experience. I remember along my running journey that sometimes I did not cared about intervals but there were other periods when I wanted to test some structured workouts. This was more then a decade ago…we’re in 2026…no watch from any brand should be handicapped like this.
Suunto Run seems to be Suunto wanting to appeal more to road runners but they cut one of the core features…planning. And it’s no hardware limitation. It’s a Garmin move…cutting software features to upsell a more expensive watch.
And then we have Suunto Run with “Resume Later” and “Music” that the other Suunto’s don’t have…doesn’t make sense.
-
@Nelson-Diogo can’t you just create intervals on the watch itself, like on the other watches?
-
@aiv4r Even if you could, would you want to?

Here are some more rumors:
https://gadgetsandwearables.com/2026/07/26/suunto-race-3-s-ai-coach-leak/ -
@Egika Interesting! Sounds like the only real difference will be a paid AI coach. Unfortunately thats in line with other manufacturers products currently. Samsung Galaxy S24 - S25 - S26 was also just “more AI”
Curious if older watches will get the deeper integration to Suunto coach too - if these rumors are true -

Curious if older watches will get the deeper integration to Suunto coach too - if these rumors are trueIt’s probably me, but the last time I got a watch with something new that was actually useful was my Ambit 3 run. That had navigation based on gps. It made longruns more interesting and I could enter trailruns that provide a gpx.
After that? Not really. The ambit 3 had some omissions (most important a vibrating alert) and limited battery life. The forerunner 935 fixed this, until the batterylife was down to less than 8 hours in gps mode (so a while day hike wasn’t possible anymore). The forerunner 965 added maps that made navigation slightly more convenient, but also added a lot of annoyances (forced voice assist during navigation being the biggest)
Overal I’m happy with my race s and will be for the coming years. There are some bugs to squash (including a big one with unstable bluetooth) and there are some nice to haves my previous garmins had (with live tracking being the nicest), but other than that? Definitely not waiting for an AI coach, nor willing to pay for it.
Except 1 thing. Being able to generate a local route for a given kilometers on a giving terrain on a given hillyness, for both running and cycling. That would be useful for me. Now I use strava, but I don’t want to pay for strava anylonger and route creating in strava isn’t as good as it used to be. And this would be solely in the suunto app, so every watch that has navigation will benefit.

@Steven-Hambleton of course, thst is how I and the people I know who has Suunto does structured workouts, easy and simple.
