I am really surprised and disappointed that the heart rate monitoring is not continuous and users cannot change this setting.

I understand there may be a need for continuous HR tracking for some people, but, as far as I know, there is no way to view the actual second-by-second recorded HR data? In the app, HR is only viewable in 10 minute intervals for what I assume is an average of the readings across the interval.

I believe that’s right. I had hoped there would be a way to see the individual readings like there is in Apple Health where you can see each sample, but there’s not that ability in Suunto app that I can see.

And setting Suunto to export to Apple Health doesn’t help. While it will send heart rate as a category, during the day it only sends one sample every few hours as I recall. If there’s a way to export daily HR data to any other platform to see more frequent samples I’m unaware of it.

I got an offer from Suunto to buy a new watch 20% reduced. Now I am thinking if I should sell the RaceS and Vertical to get a new R3S for about the same money.
I had the V1 because of:

        • Display
        • Battery Life
        • Ruggedness

        RaceS because of:

        • Size
        • Weight
        • Firmware Support

It seems like the R3S could offer everything without the need to change between watches. What do you think? The most important thing would be the display in AOD mode - is it better?

@VoiGAS exactly same case/configuration than you.
SRs3 ordered to replace my SRs that will go to my son.
I keep my SV1 it’s still my favorite for long races, trekking, cycling…
The day I will replace my SV1 will probably mean I would sold my SRs3

I tire of all the back and forth on MIP. What does that have to do with the Race 3S which is clearly not MIP nor will it ever be.

There is a place to make your MIP desires known, but rehashing… It wastes my time trying to find relevant threads.

I am pretty sure if 100% of this forum was pro-MIP that still would not nudge a board room decision. We are a very small niche community nowhere near the majority of Suunto or sport watch customers.

I am not saying that the V1 should not be celebrated, but Suunto has much much larger issues as a brand to figure out.

@Tieutieu Would be great to hear how it compares to the existing Race & Vertical!

@stavrogin No of course its no MIP, but I am not religious about it. What I want is a readable Always On Display. On the Race S it was not bright enough most of the time. But the Race3S is hopefully better in that regard. But I can just hope and don’t know - thats why I am asking. I didn’t even mention MIP in my post by the way

@VoiGAS I’ll give my feedback for sure.
About MIPs : a few things make me still love my SV1 : AOD, battery life…and the look…and it’s working like a charm for my needs even it doesn’t have and won’t receive (all) new features. SV1 ti has the best design to me ; if SV2 was exactly the same, I would have switched already.

Just saw a Review from Daily Nerd Alert on YouTube. His measured battery lifetime is frightening:
                    1000047315.jpg

He says: the more sun, the less battery. Seem logical, but these numbers are horrible! I got about 20h from my RaceS with AOD and navigation. Maybe a downside of the brighter display…

Edit: Just checked out his Review of the RaceS: 18-20h with navigation, 28-29h without

@VoiGAS does Suunto just send these offers out randomly?

                        @VoiGAS

With my activity level, I have to charge my race s every 4 days isch.

I run 4 times a week, 2 interval trainings at my club, a shorter run and a longer run. Plus 3 times a week cycling to work (about 2 times 30 minutes a day)

I don’t use AOD, have a stryd and polar oh1+ connected during runs. For longer runs or trails I use navigation. For my commutes I just use the wrist based sensor (although that is wrong about half of the time). Default gnns settings. I wish I could turn down the gnns settings, but stupid enough you have to do that prior to every activity. I really have no need for dual frequency gnss.
And in daily watch mode, I disabled as much nonsense as possible, like blood saturation and sleep. Do use notifications on my watch.

4 days is slightly better than the forerunner 965 I previously had and way, way worse than the forerunner 935 I had before that.

The forerunner 935 is still, with distance, the best watch I ever had. Unfortunately, garmin broke the battery life with an update and years of use did the rest.

Oh, and the 4 days of my race s, is when there is no unexpected battery drain. Which it sometimes has.

For an oled watch, it’s not bad, in my (limited) experience with oled watches.

@elbee Thank you for that breakdown. That is super useful. Estimates are that and it seems that a lot of them rely on people not using the watch when they calculate the days numbers.

@elbee I also think the RaceS battery lifetime is quite good. Thats why I am shocked by the results this reviewer got. The Race3S should be better than the RaceS - not worse. Maybe a defective unit or something…

@VoiGAS I tested the Race 3S and without AoD I can get to 38 hours or more of estimated battery life, tested in real long activities

What do you mean with estimated battery life?

Is that the number that is shown when you start an activity or did you do an activity until your watch died and that was 38 hours later?

(the first one is a guess by the watch, the second one is a real measurement)

@elbee I used math and the battery data that is saved in the activity itself to estimate the battery life of the watch from 100 to 0
