@dimangi “no evidence Suunto will stop the support” Jan.15 announcement was for every device older as an Ambit 3
will not be supported so there is evidence black on white written …

“but for me these type of gadgets have an estimated 2 years of use.”

that’s fine if you are an early adopter and go by this and happy with it no problem, but please don’t think that all other people need to so as well, some of them are not early adopters and using their perfectly working devices as a tool for much longer as they can until Suunto pull’s deliberately pulls the plug in terminating a service that is essential for the device to work to full extend, this is then not because the device is not longer function but simple Suunto decided that they don’t longer has to work …

2 years for something that is worth 400 euros?
I believe that this has to last until I say enough.
The problem is that the clock works and the Web after so many years of falls is perfect.
What they could do is keep the 2 options.
I do not think they lose more money if they keep the servers longer or stop them and lose many clients.
If they want to do that because the owners of a watch “OBSOLETE” pay them some kind of compensation.

            @Egika , yeah, well, whatever*
            from DCR:

/…/ went round and round with Suunto on this via e-mail, and the long and the short of it is that they’re awaiting user feedback and then will determine a specific course of action from there. Which is a simple way of saying they’re waiting to see how many people scream (and how loud they scream). /…/

If it’s a voice of the customer they are after, I see no reason to disappoint.

*) isn’t T6 still fully supported and Moveslink download available from Suunto? First T6 is from 2004? Ambit has been around since 2012 and A3 is still available today from all Suunto online stores.

@Tobias-F Suunto has said that they don’t have the Ambit2 SA support today. They have not said they will not have the support by the time Movescount is shut down.

To me this is not evidence, it’s bad communications 😉

Then you should keep your distance from consumer electronics. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s pretty much the standard practice. And to my view Suunto is providing more support than the average in the industry (far more than 2 years). Which I think is correct, because that’s also an excellent opportunity to build brand and brand loyalty.

I’m not saying no, Sunnto has created a total dependence on their product towards Movescount, in that case they had planned some kind of external program to continue using the minimum they sold us.

No. They said they will discontinue the Movescount service in favour of the Suunto App, and the app will not support watches that do not have Bluetooth. So these will be bricked the next day. It’s as simple as that. No small text disclaimers attached.

Interesting. I was reading the Finnish version, which says “…are not compatible…”. In the english version it says “…will not be compatible…”
So I guess you are right. It’s a subtle difference but leaves no room for imagination.

Deprecated support is not unique to Suunto. Apple recently discontinued support for Apple TV units some of which are newer than the A2.

In the meanwhile you can sync a Garmin Forerunner 305 from 13 years ago!
I guess a class action won’t do nothing, they are old devices, out of warranty. We put hope on people here that will communicate with suunto 😃

@margusl I’m in the same boat. The T6d watch I own was very expensive for something that will now be useless in less than a year and a half. Suunto used to have a desktop app that worked well. They made it obsolete and now require you use Movescount. But if Movescount is going away in a year and a half, then we have nothing. Suunto should at least provide a way to export the data from the watch and import it into the Suunto app.

@stromdiddily Deprecated support is different from bricking something. Even if Apple no longer supports those Apple TV units, you can probably still use them until they stop functioning. You just can’t get software updates for it or get it repaired.

Suunto make desktop app for legacy devices just for syncing to suunto app, screen customizations and etc on the watch itself that’s all, problem solved.
