The users that we remain with the obsolete clock by the new policy propose to sue Sunnto each one in his country.
In my case I am from Spain and I would go to the OCU.
    How would you do it?

First of all it’s 1.5y to that time and you don’t know what Suunto will do about your device yet. As a user I would strongly suggest to start anything you like after the final time comes as only then it will be to your benefit

I propose it in case you do not give us an alternative to be able to use our watches. Of course…

@Victor-MH Agreed. Just in case I am a community manager here and a Suunto customer. So besides communicating stuff I am here also to help/advice in a personal level.

I am sure Suunto does not want in 1.5y to leave you in limbo (without anything)

Well, if you can advise me on a personal level. I will tell you my problem.
I have a Sunnto Ambit 2s that earned me 400 euros.
It works perfectly and I use it for everything.
If I want to buy another watch, it would be worth another 400 euros.
I spent that money thinking that Sunnto was serious and better quality people. If they do not put a solution, I would feel very disappointed

@Victor-MH as many users here, you as well, have the same concern and correct argument.
I dont know at this moment what Suunto will do in 1.5y. Idk if I was suunto and I was to “brick” your 400e watch I would perhaps offer something in exchange.

The feedback is loud to Suunto via all channels. They hear you and I dont think they will just turn their back. That is my general feeling with some communication I have with them

In that case I will feel very happy.
But in the event that it did not happen, I propose to go organizing

even you have an AMbit2 Sport that is said on Tuesday not supported from middle of next year I would give Suunto 1-2 months to react, they get a lot of feedback right now for their Jan.15 announcement and might be reconsider their strategy, I don’t think they will change (as they seldom did in the past) but sincerely hope so same as you for your existing devices as on my, if they are not reacting until March and keep pushing this down our throats and let us choke to death I would react like you proposed, your thoughts?

Hopefully, if a solution is found.
What is clear that Sunnto’s email is not very conciliatory with those who trust Sunnto with our watches

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in I propose a class action to Suunto:

First of all it’s 1.5y to that time and you don’t know what Suunto will do about your device yet. As a user I would strongly suggest to start anything you like after the final time comes as only then it will be to your benefit

There’s a small problem. We could just wait and see and start rising our voice only after there has been major step backs - services taken down, alternative solutions covering only most basic subset of current features. And lets say that this will result with a plan on how to go forward and provide acceptable compromise, there is still, in my opinion, quite a big risk for a long period of time when we have to live with severely reduced functionality - old infrastructure retired yet fully functional replacement not yet up.

I, for one, went knowingly with Ambit3 after I was happy with it’s current state and willing to accept all its shortcoming at that moment - all it’s features were frozen, firmware was stable and last feature updates were finished, mobile app was more or less working. Knowing that I can get exactly what I’m paying for, no more, no less, no promises on upcoming features, was actually a valid selling point. While I appreciate that Movescount mobile app has become a lot more stable in past and that I have a chance to test Suunto app with Ambit3, I’d still rather take my Ambit3 as a tool - reliable, stable, free of surprises and prospect of landing into beta-zone is less than ideal.

That’s why I’d rather look for a realistic plan that Suunto has for Ambit3, Traverse and non-bluetooh devices (I also have original Ambit, few days ago it navigated though 100k winter race like a champ)
I don’t expect it to see it today or tomorrow, but would sure need some reassurance that I don’t end up with a crippled device before a trip or a race.

                        I understand the frustration… to a point.

First, like @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said there is no evidence Suunto will stop the support!

Second, it’s technology, it gets outdated fast. This is very familiar with other products and other brands as well. The last line of Ambit3 (vertical) was introduced 3 years ago, the first being in 2012 (7 years ago). Not very many brands would offer this long support for their devices.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but for me these type of gadgets have an estimated 2 years of use. Even if they work fine after that, they’ll be outdated and unsupported both in HW and SW.

@dimangi “no evidence Suunto will stop the support” Jan.15 announcement was for every device older as an Ambit 3
will not be supported so there is evidence black on white written …

“but for me these type of gadgets have an estimated 2 years of use.”

that’s fine if you are an early adopter and go by this and happy with it no problem, but please don’t think that all other people need to so as well, some of them are not early adopters and using their perfectly working devices as a tool for much longer as they can until Suunto pull’s deliberately pulls the plug in terminating a service that is essential for the device to work to full extend, this is then not because the device is not longer function but simple Suunto decided that they don’t longer has to work …

2 years for something that is worth 400 euros?
I believe that this has to last until I say enough.
The problem is that the clock works and the Web after so many years of falls is perfect.
What they could do is keep the 2 options.
I do not think they lose more money if they keep the servers longer or stop them and lose many clients.
If they want to do that because the owners of a watch “OBSOLETE” pay them some kind of compensation.

                                @Egika , yeah, well, whatever*
                                from DCR:

/…/ went round and round with Suunto on this via e-mail, and the long and the short of it is that they’re awaiting user feedback and then will determine a specific course of action from there. Which is a simple way of saying they’re waiting to see how many people scream (and how loud they scream). /…/

If it’s a voice of the customer they are after, I see no reason to disappoint.

*) isn’t T6 still fully supported and Moveslink download available from Suunto? First T6 is from 2004? Ambit has been around since 2012 and A3 is still available today from all Suunto online stores.

@Tobias-F Suunto has said that they don’t have the Ambit2 SA support today. They have not said they will not have the support by the time Movescount is shut down.

To me this is not evidence, it’s bad communications 😉

Then you should keep your distance from consumer electronics. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s pretty much the standard practice. And to my view Suunto is providing more support than the average in the industry (far more than 2 years). Which I think is correct, because that’s also an excellent opportunity to build brand and brand loyalty.

I’m not saying no, Sunnto has created a total dependence on their product towards Movescount, in that case they had planned some kind of external program to continue using the minimum they sold us.

No. They said they will discontinue the Movescount service in favour of the Suunto App, and the app will not support watches that do not have Bluetooth. So these will be bricked the next day. It’s as simple as that. No small text disclaimers attached.

Interesting. I was reading the Finnish version, which says “…are not compatible…”. In the english version it says “…will not be compatible…”
So I guess you are right. It’s a subtle difference but leaves no room for imagination.
