    April 30, 2019

    Dear Suunto community members,

We are happy to share the latest news related to our digital service transition.

Firstly, thank you for your feedback around this topic, your passion for our brand and services only inspires us more to create experiences that you find fulfilling. We are listening and our strategy reflects your input.

As we mentioned in January, Suunto app is the future of our digital services. It is where we will continue to build the best possible experience in collaboration with our connected partner services and communities.

    Key updates:
(Our updates will continue in May)

    Suunto app development:
Since January we’ve brought some meaningful usability and route enhancements, a renewed Android app user experience, as well as our new connection with Relive- enabling you to turn your adventures into personal videos worth sharing.

    Data transfer from Movescount:
We will begin enabling the import of your exercise history from Movescount to Suunto app in May. We will start with users connecting to Suunto app with Suunto 9, Suunto 3, then Spartan family, Ambit3, Traverse and Traverse Alpha and EON Dive computers. Download the Suunto app, ensure you have notifications on, and relax, we will let you know (in Suunto app) the moment the transfer is available for you. The transfer is initiated directly from within the Suunto app. More details in our FAQ below and in our May update.

    Movescount App:
We have received feedback from the community that we could make our digital services more clear, particularly as we have two different mobile applications supporting the same products. As we seek to provide the most understandable context during this time of transition to Suunto app, and the best possible user experience, we will begin removing the Movescount App from the iOS AppStore and Google PlayStore by the end of 2019. Existing consumers can continue to use the app as long as it is still installed on their smartphone. We don’t have a specific closing date currently, but we wanted to give everyone plenty of notice before the change, and we will share more in our updates as we go forward.

    Suunto movescount.com (web service):
We have heard from many of you that the Movescount web service is an important part of your Suunto experience.  We continue to review movescount.com and its most important and utilized functionalities. As we have more details on the next steps, we will share them, particularly for those connecting exclusively by cable to the web, like Ambit and Ambit 2.

Finally some communication from Suunto. This is probably few months late, but better late than never.

Important things announced are that they are going to remove Movescount app from app stores by the end of the year and that they are thinking what to do with watches that need cable to connect to movescount.com (ambit, ambit2).

I don’t think removing Movescount app from appstores before Movescount is acctually shut down is a smart move. Because of the current state of development of Suunto app and that judging by the speed of development, it’s highly unlikely that SA will cover all, or at least the most, functionalities of Movescount service have at the moment. Let me remind you that Ambit3 series watches have only the most basic support in SA and I’m very skeptical that it will be really able to replace Movescount and not horribly ruin the user experience because those watches rely heavily on movescount. Also, phones are nowadays being replaced almost every year, so if you do it at the end of the year, you will actually be forced to use SA at whatever state would it be at the moment. So if they insist on removing Movescount app from app stores then better speed up the development of the app!

About cable syncing watches… They are finally hinting that there is a chance they will not be abandoned. So that’s a good news. They should have communicated this much earlier, and by now they should have had a much clearer stance on this.

Let’s just hope that there will be more communication from suunto in the future. It really looks bad for them when they just let people speculate on the future of their watches. It creates atmosphere of uncertainty which can seriously hurt the brand image and sales accordingly.

@Emir-Karisik They did say that they are evaluating MC web solutions for old A1/A2 cable syncers.

Someone in the previous update had said that maybe MC app goes away but not sure for MC web if it will go away.

(BTW to be clear, I just transfer the news )

Exactly. And I have not seen any progress since 01/2019.

What about the web app “to work” properly for the BLE watches, not only Ambit and Ambit2? @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos , do you know if is, at least, in consideration?

Yes, I know and this is the reason of my question.

This sounds a little ambiguous for me…

Great to see some sort of update.
My Ambit3 (also have a Spartan) sport connects to my PC and then updates MC via my cable, so i know the above statement mentions Ambit / Ambit 2 but should it not mention Ambit 3 as well?

I use the Ambit 3 just for lunchtime sessions at work and my Spartan for everything else, but even so i still want the lunchtime sessions on my training plan.

it’s all very confusing… and i read the forum post’s everyday… any new user who has just bought a new 9, must think what the hell is going on!!!

Yup. Especially since the 9 is not advertised as MC compatible.

I think it should have but A3 can connected / get a full feature set from SA.

A1/A2 watch owners were displeased a LOT when Suunto said on the first announcement that MC would go away. I think they wanted to let know to these users that they are changing plans / working on a solution for them.

And that what A3 users are really waiting for. SA set really and fully working. Not that featureless basic compatibility that makes us cannot only put a simple gpx route into the watch.

Anyway, good to have finally some news. Hoping now that the really next news will be for A3 and SA …

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I think that when I bought my s9 it was MC compatible. June of 2018.
I wish they implement a good way to sync in MC from SA. After all I heard that suunto has a brand new open API 🙂

Hoping Suunto does the right thing for A3 users. I am keeping my ear close to the ground on any significant moves making A3 fully compatible with The Suunto App. Researching options to move to in case my A3 remains non fully compatible with the Suunto app with Movescount gone. Suunto9 baro???

@Yannis-Belouris nope. We actually released an update just after 1 week to SL and MC apps/web to support it.

There is nowhere in the S9 communicated any product promise for MC.

S9 is compatible with MC but its not in the promise or in any reference from Suunto.

                                        @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
                                        Thanks for the update!

Regarding the features of MC that should be conserved/replicated in SA web, is there any way in which we, the users, can provide feedback?

@jsuarez I think the time will come for that, and this forum should be the place to add this feedback.
