they say your watch software might crash when you do that.
What I noticed when I had SA installed to try the connection with my Ambit 3, the SA is always on and wants to be connected to the watch all the time.
I really had to play around with notification settings and app management in my Android before it was only on when I started the app.
My conclusion is (I did not try it yet) that you can have both SA and MC app installed if you change the settings that the app only starts when you press it. Make sure each app is closed and not running in the background before you start the other one for syncing.
I’ll have a try on that later today.

But why do you want to use both, Suunto App and Movescount App?
I tried SA and found it still quite useless for me as there is no web interface. I’m waiting to use SA frequently when there’s a proper and useful web interface to check my training. Until then I use Movescount, Strava plus Strava Elevate 👌

…I tried with settings in the SA but this app is way too dominant. It will always connect to my watch as soon as bluetooth on my phone is activated.
It looks like there’s no other option than uninstalling SA again and wait… at least for me… which is fine as I don’t see the need and benefit for SA yet.

I don’t even want to see random people that I don’t even know sharing their activities with me in my SA homescreen. I don’t like that. If I wanted to do socializing online I would use facebook…

Yes, if have both app installed and paired with the watch. In my case with a SSU and Android I do the following:

1.- Sync first with SA. I have SA connected to Strava (if I use Movescount with Strava the total ascent is wrong and doesn’t match the watch value).
            2.- I force close SA
            3.- I sync with Movescount.
I still plan routes and sports customization in Movescount. I have both apps force closed, I do not use notifications in the watch (I do not like them) and I have noticed that if SA is “always on” my watch battery drains quickly.

If I’m not mistaken, an you are using a Spartan, S3 or S9 with the last firmware you can use both app at the same time, Suunto solved the bug that made the watch crash when using both apps at the same time. If you use route planner or sports mode customization in SA, Suuntolink and some Movescount sync doesn’t work anymore (You can do some tricks, they are commented in other posts).

I do not know what happens if you have both apps running and you try to sync an activity, which one is the dominant and will do first the sync.

              Disable Bluetooth,
wait unitl BT icon dissapears from watch,
close SA from Android task switcher,
              run Movescount,
start sync (press on watch icon, upper right corner in the MC app) & allow the MC app to turn on Bluetooth - press on a BT symbol,
have patience, if it seems to be stuck, repeat and keep MC app in the foreground all the time + don’t let the watch go into stand by.

that’s too much of a switching for me to be honest.
It’s good to know that you found a workaround. But I will stick to Movescount until SA is improved and convinces me more… AND has a web interface (!!).

                @cosmecosta
I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses his watch for sports rather than for reading messages.
As Suunto was long known for good battery life it should not chop off the branch it is sitting on and have bluetooth always connected to drain the battery. It uses a lot of battery, I noticed that, too.
That’s an absolute no-go for me.

Yet it’s basically the only way to get “correct” (i.e. same as counted by the watch) elevation figures in 3rd party services, something that has been broken in Movescount for a long time. AND have access to Ambit3 workout builder - nothing else but Movescount mobile app provides interface for this.

It would be interesting if somewhere is a software available to export the Ambit’s track, baro, hr and gps data etc directly to a third party platform.
But then it’s still not possible to make changes to sport modes, gps setting etc when Movescount is gone.

I think is is needles to say that before SuuntoApp meets all the requirements to support Ambit3 watches with all their functionalities Movescount has to stay.
Personally I also prefer a website to make all this stuff with my Spartan And I really hope that the month of May will bring further news about this issue.
Till then, not only write here in the forum, but I would also recommend write to Suunto via their support.

I was in frequent contact with Suuntos customer support and the answer in summary is: thank you for your feedback, we will forward it to the development team, please sign in for the Suunto newsletter to keep yourself updated.

I’ve signed into the Suunto newsletter… beginning of April but did not yet receive any official Suunto news.

My understanding is that this forum is there mainly for Suunto to collect the customers inputs.

                          @TELE-HO You`re right.

We collect here customer input for developement of the App, and as far as I can tell there will be reports made from here to Suunto about bugs users find, what users complain, what they have feature suggestions and so on.

But it can’t be bad to write to support as well, in my opinion. 🙂
We all have to wait when the next update from Suunto comes about all this.
