Serious update for Ambit3 users

So in response to ‘how do I configure structured workouts on my Ambit 3 if I change mobile devices after 18th of December?’ question, I received:
After official MC google play retirement, there will be surely apk to be shared to install again MC app.
-
@Mff73 Installing the apk is fine until its no longer compatible with current Android… To be fair, as an Ambit3 user, if it gets to that point and all other functionality is OK then I can still sell the watch for a fair price and replace it with something else.
Thankfully we’re not going to be in the position of not being able to modify any settings; that would have made the device un-sellable secondhand…
-
@amasidlover I dont think that would be the case. From what I understand the app downside is no structured intervals

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos is this the statement you wrote about? If yes, why is it not propagated to customers via email or by any different channel? Thanks

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos the week passed away, no announcement by Suunto. It is great to see Kilian Jornet and his family are doing good, or to know it is good to have headlamp to run in the dark, but it would be more serious to inform us about what is going on, wouldn’t it?

did you miss this announcement within this thread 7 days ago?

https://www.suunto.com/en-gb/Content-pages/digital-service-transition/as others I didn’t received it also. Only knew because of facebook group and this forum.

@André-Faria
I would like to hear from somebody who actually received the newsletter… because I only heard so far that this did not work and people only learn it in this forum or because they stumbled over it on Suunto web page…
I did not receive this news by email and also not in MC…
for me it works as I frequently read here! But e.g. my sister in law would not learn about that if she would not be informed by me -

@Prenj there is a thing to think about. At some point (and already happening) the MC app wont work due to iOS / Android updates.
Also from what I read I dont see why the “new” mc wont have activity analysis. Imo they will shutdown things like social
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos do you have any new info regarding this? Is MC going to lose activity analysis?
-
@Prenj I dont know I wait for their roadmap I think that is coming for Ambits

Still no roadmap for ambits?

I took time off to anything related to this forum aka gave time to Suunto. 4.20.6 and nothing has changed for Ambit3 users. Still wrong hr zones, still almost lite functionaliy. And it is May 2020. I have been really core Suunto fan. But this situation led me to never ever to recommend this brand to anyone. Suunto has been really great company till they decide to move on with fancy stuff. I’m sorry.
-
@thailon Have you seen the information on the updated Suuntolink? There is a known but with the HR zones that will be fixed. Movescount will remain for adjusting the watch sport modes, routes etc.

@Brad_Olwin
I see that people wait for A3PS integration in SA as it is still sold with wireless watch setup -
I wonder why they don’t just stop making A3P, sell whatever they have in stock and declare it discontinued. They obviously put it in the same hat with other discontinued watches, removed some key features, have not updated firmware or apps for years. It’s de facto discontinued, they just haven’t openly said so. Come on Suunto, at least be fair to those that are buying watch just now, not suspecting that you effectively crippled it.

@Prenj
we don’t know how many watches of that type are in stores worldwide and on stock in Finland…
