Future S9 firmware wishlist summary

@Brad_Olwin Truly an avant-garde demand. And you will have your espresso maker. And several years later there will still be posts wondering when the filter capability is finally due to be implemented.
Also, you’re going to be drinking that espresso with a stubbed toe … WAS IT WORTH IT?

You are all missing the point. A long time ago in a forum far away…at the time the Ambit appeared there was one central driving request…a built in espresso maker. Now I realize how far ahead of his time the OP was! We need built in BT controls so when stumbling about in the bathroom waking up for the pre-dawn exercise the watch automatically starts the connected espresso maker. That would make my day.
It is a good idea! New FB algorithm that detects your heart rate ramping up as your circadian rhythm releases cortisol, a hormone that is released prior to waking up, signaling iot devices in a house to warm up kitchen, activate espresso machine, etc. 50 years ago features we use today would seem crazy and out of touch back then. But these are all possible today with wearable optical hrv monitors. This is less far fetched than LT estimation on garmin devices.
-
Please give us some new faces in the next update or open up for third party. Would make my day!
-
The ability to resume an activity could be nice for multi days activities
-
The possibility to add gears we are using and how many km done with this or that gear. With also the possibility to reset this counter. For instance, I’ll do a big service on my bicycle, and would like to see when I will need to plan the next one based on Km I did.
-
@darxmurf have a look at ProBikeGarage. I use for my bikes and it’s the best option I have found. I will love to have same one for runs…
BR
-
@darxmurf also Strava has gear section if you’re interested. However I’m not sure how advanced it is as I use it only for running shoes.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel @suzzlo yep I know those alternative tools, my idea was to stay away from it and only use tools provided by my device but it looks like there is not that much choice at the moment. As there was everything embedded with garmin, I expected to find more less the same with suunto.
-
@darxmurf it think that Suunto has a different business model than Garmin and Polar in regards to digital services. Suunto seems to invest more in integrations with external, more specialized services than relying on its own. Perhaps this is why Movescount is being replaced with mobile app which focuses more on mobility and user friendliness than graphs and advanced analytics as there are better services that can do it. There are pros and cons to such approach as is with having everything in house.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel
This is probably beating a dead horse, but why choose only one when you could have both approaches? Suunto already had Movescount’s features available…You can use many different 3rd party services but what is your final cost if you sum all the service fees? With Movescount I could have most of that bundled with the watch (and that was in line with its price tag).
-
@jsuarez I don’t know. Killing movescount seems weird to me too. Perhaps we have to wait a couple more months to see if it’s a part of bigger picture and longer term strategy.
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel for me, not having a least a portal to browse and see all your activities sounds quite sad
-
bigger picture ?*
bigger picture like web app is not in the plan of suunto for sure
-
Update v 2.12.30 out now, including a new watch face. Finally

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos are there any plans to add a 10 second GPS mode in the S9 like it was done on the S7?
this would make an intermediate state between the best mode and the Endurance mode which would not degrade the accuracy too much … -
@Rob33 I don’t think so. It’s kinda a chip restriction in terms of power balance. If you see all Sony based GPS companies have the same modes.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Ok. unfortunate…
-
I see some people asking for cartography on a french website. Is it technically possible on S9 ?
-
@ink357
It shouldn’t … I mean, generally speaking it could be technically possible, but I guess it isn’t feasible -
I would add two additional features:
-
Although the new suunto plus display for weather is nice. It’s a shame I have to activate it manually every time if I want to know the sunset time/remaining sunlight during hiking. It’s a very useful data point that I can see when not in activity. It’s a shame it disappears when an activity is started if you don’t add the weather display from suunto plus. It should be a standard piece of information in the back country.
-
For the moon phase information to be really useful, I miss the moon rise/set times as it exists for the sun. If I want to plan an activity around the full moon, I also need to know when it rises and when it will set.
Hopefully those could be added to the watch functionality as I don’t think it requires too much programming.
