Navigation screen feature request: A dual swipe menu

Since the S9P has a full round screen instead of the S9B which has a flattened part at the bottom, it crossed my mind how we can benefit from this “extra” space at the bottom. Noticing the rotating information if you go into navigation settings, I thought it would be great to see that rotating information all the time without the menu blocking the route view.

So the feature would include 3 views of the navigation screen controlled by the number of times you swipe up or down.

      Default: Full navigation screen
First swipe up: Permanent menu part on the bottom with pre-determined fields which auto-rotate or (even better) customizable datafields. Stays active while selecting different screens.
Second swipe up: Full navigation menu options

And swipe down for the reverse order.

This way the person can choose for itself if it wants to see the whole route or a flattened bottom part, but with some extra information.

Power off option like peak have in general settings. Time to rest.

@frederic I prefer the way it is, easy to lock if you want to. I do not want an autolock as during interval running I would forget and miss an interval. The watch is so easy to lock why is this an issue?

@brad_olwin I am not saying to have it locked at all times. I was just asking for an option to lock (or not… your choice thanks to a toggle) automatically upon the start of an activity. By default, I always lock my watch and unlock it when I need to. But that’s just me I guess.

@frederic But you can lock the buttons at the start of an activity, I am confused. And as I said, I do not want an automatic lock at the start of an activity since I can lock anytime I want to during an activity.

Indeed, I can and do lock the buttons but having the watch lock automatically would be even “nicer”

@brad_olwin In my mind, it would only lock if you have chosen so in the watch preferences. So that should not impact users like you that want the watch to remain unlocked.
But again, I’ve asked since 2018 to have the capability to lock the watch when not recording an activity and I’m still holding my breath so that might also be a “pie in the sky” kind of wish list item…

                                Hi all,

Don’t want to rain on your party but are those “wishlist” posts really useful?
I was quite optimistic when I arrived in the community a bit more than one year ago, proposed new features and all on another wishlist topic. There was tons of other good propositions from other folks but in the end nothing of that was added in the 2 last firmware. And I’m not talking here about huge modifications or features but simple and useful things.

My Baro 9 is doing it’s job but it’s quite sad to see how the Suunto team is not taking much care of new features/watch upgrades or community propositions. Yes they released new watches but what’s the point here? Do we need to buy a new one every 6 months to get new features?

@darxmurf it’s semi-useful I think. You suggest feature and suunto may implement then in some way or the other. Take a look at resolved feature requests for SA, quite a few of those I must say.
Watch also has gotten some improvements from users feedback.
It may be more difficult to implement suggestions because normally the plans of the company are laid out few years in advance, so it’s difficult to make short term changes.
Also, suunto released a new flagship model for the first time in 3 years, how is it 6 month?

                                    Hello Dimitrios

Just to share my personnal experience … even if it is a little bit far from just SUUNTO matters 🙂

I’m indeed an IT program manager in a big elecronic Cie (I cannot disclose the name but it is a blue logo with just 2 letters)

During 7 years, I was in charge of a huge IT program for which we were organizing every quarter a BITA (business IT alignment) … One day one of my big friend but on BIZ side challenged us in front of every body in one of this meeting telling us this : “you IT are totally inefficient … and I will prove it … I asked you to change the color of an information and put it in the official blue to emphasis it … it was long time ago … I’m sure it is a 5 minutes action for you, no-one refuse it but still it is open in the list since now 2 years) … so … you are totally inefficient !!!”

I realized he was super right … our approach was always to ask the BIZ to prioritize their point as there wer far more request than our capacity (it is always like this no 🙂 🙂 🙂 ?) … and this small stupid points were always at P9 … so never taken …

Since that time I changed my approach … now I play a TETRIS game with business … the size of it is the nbr of days * nb of ressource to reach next release … we valuate each CR … and the target it so fill it … if there is some small place left … then we may take bungh of very small points that may not have a P1 or P2 … P3 priority but are super fast to do

I’m sure Suunto DEV team is acting the same … so I remain confident that what we may propose, if we are able to show that there are not difficult to be done … could be taken … so I’m optimistic

@darxmurf all the features of the new watch that were not based on hardware have been ported to your S9 too. So no need to buy a new watch. Unless you want to buy a new watch.

@surfboomerang yeah not sure if that is permanent or not. Often a watch has a distinctive watch face (and in this case color) that remains not accessible to previous models, although all watches got the S3 watch face recently, so it may change.

                                            @darxmurf
I have a Schrödingers feeling about user feedback and how Suunto handles it… first of all: I did give feedback some years ago to Garmin. None of it, but absolutely nothing has been implemented. And it was simple stuff on their Connect page.
I noticed Suunto meets my demands much better, watch and homepage wize (ok, the last we all know went down the sewer…) but I changed to A3P, had the much better watch and saw the data I wanted.
I upgraded to S9B, saw room for improvement on the S9B and SA, mentioned it every now and then 😉 and I would say that some of it has been considered and implemented. I must confess that one thing has been implemented that I have never expected to be solved for the next watch: baro holes position. Check where they are in S9P: perfectly placed. No chance for covering them to give wrong readings. This requires a lot of work and is only possible for new models, of cours.
On the other hand, there are simple things, like a lock function in watch mode that haven’t been implemented yet… I might be wrong when saying “simple”… in my imagination it is simple, since A3P had this function in watch AND activity mode and S9B does only have it in activity mode.

My summary: if you don’t mention great ideas no one will know about it. If you mention them and they are implemented: jackpot! If you mention them and they are ignored, maybe the product manager has different plans, keeps it for a new model etc…

I notice in general that there are companies that do their thing and others they observe market needs and listen. I think Suunto listens but they do not over react on each idea.
