yes it’s true… S9B GPS could be better… but I haven’t tried the combo of either of the other 2 systems to see if it improves. I think I’ll do that in case I find motivation to go running between skiing days 😉
But it is also true that A3PS has way way better precision than S9B has.
If I only knew S9B I think I would be happy with what it records. Since I compare sometimes with A3PS directly, I know that Suunto did better with the Sirfstar chip.

@silentvoyager Awesome list, I love it! I hope those points will get to the people who could actually do something with it. I mean it’s great to have hope in something new like SuuntoPlus but seeing your list I am almost sure that at least some of those points should be reconsidered. To make our watches more user friendly. To make it better for day to day use.

I had the A3 Vertical that despite using the Sirfstar chip dosen’t have the antenna in the same position than the A3 Peak (so I can’t compare) and the SSU has the Sirfstar chip and GPS is worse (not much) than the S9. I do not know if they did better with the Sirfstar that with Sony chip but I do think they are really improving, working on it and in a very good direction. What would be good is to compare how the S5 does comparing with the S9 (S5 has has the same antenna disposition than the A3Peak) and compare the different brands with Sony Chip with the Suunto 5/9, here I think that Suunto is doing well (I do not read much complains about)

i noticed that the antenna of S5 must be where it was in A3PS as the housing looks identical.
…maybe I should get an S5 for my wife, if she wants it or not… it’s for the sake of science 😀
…no serious: good point! I’ll open a thread about it 👍

Custom sport modes must inherit settings like GPS mode

and use baro mode for alti “stationary” sports, like SUP, swim and gym stuff…

I keep having no problems with that, my gym activities have 0 ascent and 0 descent, always.

maybe I have to choose a different sportmode as basis… crossfit might have alti activated. i’ll rearrange my sport modes tonight anyway, i’ll check then 👍
(we’re still talking values in QS, right? because SA doesn’t show ascent for crossfit for me either, just QS does)

@silentvoyager about 3 we don’t do anything with smart recording and distance.

We can extrapolate the distance for you but that will reduce the watch memory which is something a 3rd party software can do.

Wow. Interesting information. GPS accuracy on SSU is not bad for my needs (hiking in unfamiliar areas), I’m actually quite satisfied with it, but I was convinced that Vertical was better in that regard.

I don’t know exactly what the watch does, perhaps that’s the Sony GPS chip that does that, but there is definitely a magic 10 meter threshold that influences when a new position is recorded. On my trail runs a significant majority of points are 10 meters or further apart. I see that when looking at distance streams in FIT files produced by Suunto 9.

When running on road 10 meters isn’t that far and is usually covered in 2-3 seconds. However on trails it often takes much longer to cover. And having a threshold like that ensures that the track cuts through most turns. That looks especially bad on tight switchbacks.

How about the ability to shuffle the order of the screens as you scroll down? I’m typically most interested in recovery status, so I’d prefer to have the firstbeat metrics first. Others may have different preferences.

@Durri My last outdoor running with Stryd was with the Polar V800 and there the GPS data was entered. This is running with Suunto 9 baro and GPS data is missing.Screenshot_20191225_145200.jpg

@Durri The S9 does have native Stryd support. I am not sure what more support that you are looking for.

@Brad_Olwin First screen was Stryd + S9baroTitanium. Stryd missing GPS data…here is the same from watch:
                                        https://app.suunto.com/move/jurajkovacs/5dfde58710c1885b1d6cd854

I would like to ask why adding Stryd does not work as POWER POD - the watch registers it only as Foot pod.
                                        Thanks😉

@Durri what’s missing is not support from the watch, but integration between the platforms so that Suunto sends your track to Stryd.
