I was wondering what people here thought were fair comparisons to make against the Suunto 7 smart, sports watch.

      eg

      • Suunto 7 vs Fenix 6 - clearly F6 is a better-functioned sports-adventure watch
      • Suunto 7 vs Suunto 9 - clearly the Suunto 9 is a more capable outdoors watch
      • Suunto 7 vs any previous sporty Wear OS app - S7 is clearly a better overall package, except there are obvious omissions that will be added like syncing steps
      • Suunto 7 WearOS APP vs any other Wear OS app - from memory I can’t think of any Wear OS apps that match the breadth and depth of the Suunto 7 Wear OS app. But if you compare to what the Suunto 7 Wear OS app can do to a Suunto 9 you will inevitably be disappointed (customisable sports profiles, external sensors, etc)
      • Compare the STRAVA app on Watch OS to the Suunto app on Wear OS. Both record HR but the similarity ends there.
      • Suunto 7 vs Apple Watch - apparently the latter has sold quite well ;-).

I think the key comparisons must specifically address at least these use-classes: SMART, SPORTS, WEAROS. The Suunto 7 is NOT aimed at the same market as many of the comparisons being made,

I agree in where is not the Suunto 7, specially with any dedicated sport watch.

I find fair to compare it with any smartwatch or any app for watches even in phones.

I like when people compare apples with apples.

        And Androids with Androids!

Is it just me, or a great number of people who have issues with S7 are iPhone users? For whom Google Fit is yet another externality, connectivity is often an issue, and data sync – be it weather, maps, or workouts – is an issue too as a result. Who have less than stellar Assistant experience and limited phone/SMS functionality? Battery might be a factor too.

Honestly, for everyone on iPhone rushing to get Suunto 7 I would recommend trying to research Wear OS support on iOS first. Because what’s acceptable to some will be clearly unacceptable to others.

I compare S7 with Skagen Falster 3. Both brand new WearOS smartwatches. Both connected to an Android Phone.

S7 is my favorite. Skagen Falster 3 my stylish watch. I use both every day.

S7 has the better display. The better resolution. The better battery. The better GPS. The better app to record activities. The better hardware.

Skagen Falster has a speaker. Has a crown for navigating through the watches UI without the need for prodding the screen and two shortcuts buttons either side of it.

I use Google Fit to collect data recorded with S7, Skagen Falster 3 and Amazfit GTS (sleep tracking, slim watch for the night). In Google Fit I have sleep, weight, calories, steps, heart rate, activities with maps and graphs. Perfect and useable for sport and fitness information.

I can recommend the S7 for users who do sports every day without the need of heart rate belts, foot pods or other special BLE devices.

S7 app works great, other standalone apps are available, but using more battery.

I have 3 to 4 hours of cycling, walking and kayaking every day on an annual average. I think this is sport.

This is my approach to the S7. 👍

I forgot to mention that I have all data on both watches via Google Fit. I want this actual information on my watch face. No matter which smartwatch I wear on the wrist. 😏

@NickK Careful there, I am firmly ensconced in Apple…I don’t have issues with the S7 but there are quite a few features that don’t work on iOS. Overall I think the integration is well done.

I have nothing against Apple, nor Apple users. Have been one of them until January.

But time and again when I see complaints about Suunto 7, they are coming from an iPhone user. Worse still, I think only texting and answering calls via watch are limitations set by Apple on third parties. Everything else points to Google seemingly putting iOS version of Wear OS on backburner. I’d love all iOS users to have great experience, but very often they don’t. And then they go and blame it on Suunto, like DCR workout or map sync issues, which I personally never had. If anything, Suunto watch app sync is blazingly fast.

@NickK I was joking…but the integration with iOS is pretty good.

My sync with iOS depends. Sometimes is lightning fast and sometimes I have to remember to open the app for it to download the workout.
