Just got an Ambit3 Peak
-
Hi!
I just got an Ambit3 Peak. Have synced it with the Suunto app (and created an account) on my iphone and also created a Movescount account and downloaded Moveslink2 on my laptop.
Now I’m a bit confused about how to use the different softwares/apps. I don’t think the getting started instructions are very clear on this.
Do you have any tips, tricks or recommendations for using the watch and the app/movescount? Or a link to a good user guide?Some specific questions:
- Are you supposed to use only the Suunto app or use it together with Movescount? How?
- I will go on a lot of ski tours, is there a sport mode for that? Or else, can I create one in the Suunto app or Movescount? How?
Thanks!

@jchevalier so far the support on SA for Ambits is very primitive, and as it looks like right now some parts of Movescount will remain essential in the life of your Ambit.
As for skiing, isn’t there a ski touring activity already? I don’t know Ambits, but the S series has one for sure. -
@jchevalier
you can setup your A3PS from the MC web and sync thru the cable. I don’t remember if there is a preinstalled skitouring sportmode in the watch, but you can also set it up and adjust it to your needs from MC web.
All you need SA for is to sync your activities to the phone and to further 3rd party tools that will soon be the better solution for analyzing data on a big screen than MC web will be.
My recommendation: setup your watch from MC web, sync your activities from A3PS to SA on the phone and get a quantified-self.io account and connect it to SA
it sounds like a bunch of work and workarounds (and to be honest, yes it is!)… but once your watch is setup you maybe rarely use MC web to setup and all you do is sync to SA and then check all your great adventures in QS -
Or you can use movescount web and app for as long as you can, because suunto app is not, and will probably never not be adequate replacement for movescount. So my advice is to just stick to movescount until they force us to start using suunto app.

@Prenj
every new Suunto customer is forced by default to use SA… unless he or she is very well informed and familiar with the entire transition topic and has organized an APK MC app installation for the phone…
all the others, and I assume it will be around 98% of the case, will do exactly what our friend @jchevalier (plus also other people recently did): unbox the watch, check for MC app, install SA instead, find no way to setup the watch, ask google, install moveslink2 and create an MC web account and feel a bit left in the forest for some time until they get help from more experienced users in this forum… -
Thank you all
Now I’m a bit less confused (I think)I’ll first download/create the modes/apps I need on the MC website and sync it with my watch and then going forward I’ll try to only use the Suunto App together with some third party app (for example quantified-self.io).
The manual says to use MovesLink for updating the firmware/software on the watch. Can I update it with SA instead?

@jchevalier no you cant use SA to update firmware /software. Only moveslink 2
For me better works sync to SA via MC web (setup connection with sportracker).

@jchevalier
firmware update of the watch from SA thru the phone isn’t available for S9B either.
Since A3PS is a solid stable watch I don’t expect too many fw upgrades, if at all. -
Hi, you should sync your watch to MC via the moveslink2 link (cable to PC) then control ALL your watch functions through MC, as people have said linking MC to ST (sport tracker) is the best option, well works fine for me.
In MC there is sports already for TELEMARK SKIING / SKI TOURING if you want something different you can copy one of those and edit to suite what you want.
hope that helps.
