Software update 2.11.38 for S5/S9

@mountainChris everywhere.
-
GPS+BeiDou: i’ve tested yesterday. Just 2 walk of 10min each one. Very impressive track. Can’t wait trying it running

Makes sense?
Sure - not a dig at you personally. Just looking for an insight into how Suunto establishes its feature sets, and the place, if any, Forum interest has.
What’s on that “top list” and how did those items get there (and in what order)? That sort of thing. You might not have a (releasable) detailed concept of their feature-picking priorities, of course, but thought I’d give it a go.
As the watches do not, as yet, come with an anenometer, I’m trying to get an idea of the way the corporate wind blows so as to avoid
pissing into itfutile efforts. -
@Fenr1r well perhaps this helps. With all respect to @TELE-HO
What will bring money ?
A new climb pro feature ?
Button lock that is requested by a few users?
What I think can be improved is to classify small task aka hygene (button lock) and others as features.
That said at the moment due to the virus thing, do consider the capacity and implications on changing things / delivering features.
This release was for example targeted to be bigger, but things went out due to no space for testing. People cannot and use less their watches, that includes testing as well.
On top of that a small hygene task (eg button lock) will need a whole factory (HW) rearrangement. There are machines there pressing buttons and doing automatations. Those need to be reprogrammed as well on all factory lines.
So yes, it might be 10 lines of code cahnge to allow a button lock but the whole procedure of that small task is bigger than people tend to think about.

@isazi ok, thanks, GPS + BEIDOU recommended instead of GPS + GAL also in European alps?
I noticed that shown battery before training ist longer with BEIDOU. I will try
-
It may be worth implementing beta test mode for watch software users. This gives a lot of feedback for the company and shows which features are of the greatest interest.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in Software update 2.11.38 for S5/S9:
Depending on the SNR and V/HError the watch will pick the best satelites to use that will ensure a great GNSS accuracy.
So how do I know which to choose with my SNR? (GAL, GLO, BEIDOU) or was it referring to watch will pick the best between GPS and QZSS?
-
@mountainChris If you are in Greece go for BEIDOU I d say from my tests in Athens
-
Logical explanation of button issues. (Although I’m sure @TELE-HO will happily do all the sleeve/glove obstruction/functionality testing you could possibly want. As rigorously and tirelessly as a machine. While TRX-ing. Time on hands, so to speak.)
And I’m willing to believe in money-making as an occasional corporate priority, no matter how outlandish that might seem.
What I was really asking, and heading way OT, was whether you could answer:
In normal (pre-/post-viral) conditions, how does any new-to-Suunto feature like the cited “climb pro” get on that list? (E.g.: that feature from interpolating Garmin sales & climb pro introduction? Requests on another channel?)
-
@Michał-Muszyński that exists. It’s called fieldtesting and many people are contributing all over the world.
Its not open and I am not managing this area.
Its not open because it’s almost a “real” job todo so. Meaning that it’s not like install SW -> Enjoy.
There are surveys that take 1h to be filled , tests and procedures to follow etc.
-
@mountainChris I still have to try Beidou, and haven’t been in the Alps for over a month, although I had great results skiing with GPS+Galileo in February. You can play with this tool if you want to check which satellites are up in your area.
-
There is RELEASE NOTE on suunto 3 support webpage , and don’t receive any update from suuntolink.
My watch is suunto 3 fitness, so the update is only for S9/S5/S3 ,no S3 fitness? -
@isazi Great tool! Thanks very much! BEIDOU seems to be really great! + SUUNTO ist awesome!
-
@isazi thanks for this website. In Poland BeiDou definitely win, no less than 10-11 satellites
-
@mountainChris @tomahawk5000 you may also want to look at this one too. And remember, the number of satellites, although very important, is not everything.
-
I understand, he writes to you, knowing that you are closer to Suunto than we all are. My goal is not to criticize or attack you. I know you can do as much as your position in the company allows.
They are thinking about something that allows you to implement functions that do not require great commitment. And they cause users to see continuous development. Suunto currently has very slow updates. I think people are impatient now and would like to see quick results. You know very well that many people left the competition because of slow development. -
@jkyou98 correct

I know that buddy don’t worry.

@Saketo-Nemo Hi, great to know. Could you provide a picture of the track ?

@Michał-Rudzki said in Software update 2.11.38 for S5/S9:
@TELE-HO I am using Spartan, Suunto many, many times fail me… also, in my opinion, they don’t have QA process at all. All tests are made by developers on desk nothing more.
@Michał-Rudzki completely wrong. Take a look to the youber who works in Suunto, he runs with 3 watches everyday.
