Ambit 3 Peak : Keep Movescount or change for SUUNTO app ?

/…/ not a single benefit to moving.
TL;DR: if one needs to ask about MC vs SA app for A3 / Traverse, it’s really simple - keep it while you can. But …
… this [number of benefits] is where things get bit more complicated as for some use cases it kind of makes sense to go with A3P + Suunto App. I’m actually one who has been syncing with my A3P with SA since Oct. 2018:
- I’ve been using 3rd party services for planning and training logs for quite some time, so it really doesn’t matter for me how bare and basic overview & analysis looks in Suunto App; and analysis part of MC was just additional extra I sometimes used but did not actually rely on it for past couple of years; they kind of broke it for me years ago.
- seems that some 3rd party services are dropping direct MC support already in favor of SA; and there are some small yet annoying issues with MC syncing to other services.
- connection between app & A3P is really stable and re-connection is seamless; for lot of my rides and runs I leave my phone behind and once back home, I usually get new activity notifications in just few minutes; with MC it was kind of intermittent, sometimes things just worked for weeks and next day I had to spend hours to get my watch paired again (Android, though most releases of both Android and MC made it more and more stable); so that one and almost only thing that actually works with SA+A3P is pretty solid; as SA seems to be more aggressive with it’s BT connection, this also has a negative effect on watch battery life
I’m also using A3 Workouts - builder is accessible only though MC mobile app - multiple times per week, mostly its just a set of configured ones and it can take months before I need to change anything there. But when I do feel the need to change / add those, I start juggling with SA & MC apps on the same phone to get into MC workout builder. This can turn into quite frustrating experience, but so far i’ve managed. It’s all just about weighted pros and cons and can be quite personal. Cool thing about SA sync is that I see a lot less Suunto & and it’s transition thing - never need to open the app after workout or for overviews, just swiping away those notifications on phone, activities end up where I want them to be. This all makes my transition to any other sports watch brand so much easier.

I’d heard this, but when I actually tried it on my phone it as no better than Movescount so I moved back (a few months ago now so things may have changed).

Phone model, Android version and Android power saving settings might have a role here. All that time I’ve been on Samsung S9, currently it’s on Android 10. I vaguely remember one or two periods where it struggled to keep connection, but if I’d try to date those, it would be just a guess, certainly more than 6 months ago.

The end is near…

And yet the Suunto website still shows…
So hopefully this September’s update to Suunto app is including modifying settings for the Ambit3 (or at least transfer of settings). Which is odd because the transition pages all say that settings will be via Suuntolink…
I would try emailing Suunto support for clarification but can’t seem to find an email address on their website anymore…
-
@Prenj yep, that’s why I moved to Suunto app in the begining of this year. Wish I could be able to sync settings via the app just like with SuuntoLink, even if I had to manage them on Movescount site. At least a had an option to change settings when I don’t have access to a PC and/or USB cable.

@amasidlover & @andrasveres
I think @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said that that’s not gonna happen, if I’m not mistaken. And that sucks, because it should really not be that hard to implement in Suunto app or some separate service made just for syncing settings. I have been suggesting this for quite some time, but it seems that is somehow in collision with their vision for the future of ambit3 line. -
@Prenj Yeah I know, but one can dream, thru not keeping high hopes on it.

So what functionality will we keep on are ambit 3’s??? will we be able to still use mini apps and sync the data collected??
Just seems like suunto are giving us a two finger salute!!!
-
@Mathieu-Ricaud you have no choice. MC will be shut down for sync in october. Old data will be available, but you can not upload new data.

Mini app: yes - using Movescount and SuuntoLink2
Sync data: yes - using either App via BT or SuuntoLink2so I will still be able to create mini apps and sync data after the 27th OCT when they are closing down moveslink?

@lohtse yes, explained in video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8VwhU99AIM

It seems their tech support don’t know this as I rang them just to get some confirmation about what we will be able to do and what we will be loosing.
And the video doesn’t confirm anything. It simply says howto connect movescount to SportsTRASHER no mention of mini apps whats so ever.
They stated that they will be dropping support for mini apps, and there may be only limited sync support.!!!

Hate the suunto app and the sportsTRASHER web site… When I compare how much data I have to analyse Movescount is far far better with the amount of information I can see in charts etc…For instance on one trek I have 13 charts with info on movescount and 3 on SportsTRASHER And yet Suunto claim that SportsTRASHER will be a better experience. For who???
all these charts are missing
Pace
Cadence
Temperature
EPOC
Energy Consumption
Respiration rate
Vertical speed
Sea level pressure
Est. VO2
R-Rand all this general info is missing(seen above route on movescount)

@lohtse the data is available in Suunto App on Android and iOS.
Sports-Tracker website is not intended to show you actual data, Suunto never mentioned it, but Suunto App instead.
if you need webplatform I’d recommend you @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos quantified-self.io is good alternative, well integrated with Suunto App (or any from the list https://www.suunto.com/partners/partners/)As for mini-Apps - not clear, yes, I guess apps you have installed on Ambits will continue to work (but not sure).
-
If sportstrasher is not intended to show us actual data then what the heck is the point in it??? As to seeing data in the app nope I still see far less than I do on movescount!!
-
@lohtse it’s another service, older than Suunto App.

What has suunto become??? Jeez they have become useless and pathetic…
thank you for the heads up about quantified-self.io
-
@lohtse Please read everything Suunto said regarding transition at https://www.suunto.com/digitalservices. Don’t know why you asking about Sports-Tracker, but it doesn’t mentioned anywhere there.
Have you installed Suunto App on you mobile phone and synced your workouts there? What data do you miss there on mobile phone?
