I hate S7 battery, I think I got a defective item and it does not sustain 5 hours in an outdoor activity despite I’ve tried every means to reduce battery usage.

I read some post on this forum and do have some concern about S9, so I want to ask here to see if anyone can give me more information.

S9 seems has some heart rate sensor issue, I saw many people complaint about that and purchase separate HR strap. I would prefer just use the watch without additional HR strap, is that ok? Is any HR issue solved by Suunto yet? Anyone with recent bought S9 Baro has this issue?

The S9 has no HR measurement issue.
It is more a physical limitation.
Firstly, wrist heart rate measurement is limited in general an influenced by various factors (skin color, blood pressure, temperature, wearing style, wrist shape, etc.).
The S9 has one disadvantage though: it’s rather heavy. That makes it more prone to bouncing around on the wrist and intruding measurement errors.
S7 is better in this respect, but in general for accurate data, you should get a chest strap anyway.
Additional benefit: watch can be worn over clothing or attached to a bike handlebar, plus you get r-r data, which records heart rate variability and enables FirstBeat to do some magic calculations like deriving respiration rate from HR data etc.

Battery wise the S9 is king. Plus for running you get the awesome battery modes that use additional sensor data to get accurate tracks even at low GPS chip power.

@Kai-Liu I have seen your posts on the S7. I noticed in one post that you have Appfour apps installed. These impact my battery life and may impact yours. I would like to pursue why you only get 5h as I can get more than that. I have an S9 as well so I can comment on both watches. How long do you need your battery to last? What activity would you like to have long battery life? Let’s start there.

Thanks! @Egika S9 baro’s weight is 2.68oz while S7 is 2.47oz that is no much difference so I think S9 is a good alternative of S7. I bought S7 for wear os feature, but I find that I don’t use wear os feature at all. As you mentioned HR measurement is not an issue, the only concern for me is that S9 is already a watch 2 years old, it seems stupid to buy it for now while new version may come out in half year, maybe I should bear with S7 a little bit longer.

@Brad_Olwin Thank you! I do deleted all 3rd party apps later except “sleep as android” but I don’t see it on battery stats. I just factory reseted the watch today I hope that it can become better. I do remember when I just bought the watch, it could last from 9am to 4pm when I was skiing, I hope reset it brings it back to original state. I usually do hiking in the summer and ski in the winter, the activity can range from 5 hours to 10 hours (backpacking long hike), so 5 hours is definitely not enough for me.

Respiration rate was amazing feature of MC, it accurately recorded me gulping up bottle of water without drawing a breath 😁 where is it in SA?

@Kai-Liu i think 10h is about as long as you will get with the S7 and that is quite good. It sounds for your needs you may require more battery.

Movescount.com used to be a website for analysis of activity for all Suunto devices back in the days of Ambits. 😁
It had most features you have to pay for now via third party apps.

@lexterm77 Except QuantifiedSelf is free and provides most of what MC used to.

@Kai-Liu it’s not an upgrade. It’s more of a lateral move. The S9 has a good battery life relative to the S7 sure, but the S9 has about a three day battery life in always on with daily activities.

Perfect description. Both watches are targeting different needs.

One is an smartwatch sport oriented.

                                            The other is sport watch.
