    Hi guys,

Have to ask again, is it possible to use the S7 with a HR belt and without a google account?
    Thanks and happy weekend…

You can use a belt but not with the Suunto app. As for Google, I don’t think so, but I don’t know for sure.

@isazi so, you say I can pair a HR belt with the S7. But why do you mention the SA?

@jthomi sorry for the misunderstanding, I meant the Suunto app on the watch, not the mobile app. The app for sport tracking provided by Suunto on the watch does not let you pair sensors, but the watch does, so other apps do.

@isazi Ah, don’t be sorry. It’s all good. So, no belt with the Suunto Wear app but with another app I could download from the google wear OS Store, is that right?

Okay, the HR belt thing is sorted out, and is a massive bummer. Don’t try to argue with the very good accuracy of the OHR, that not the point.

What about the other question, is it possible to use a S7 without a google account?

When reading the manual, I think you really don’t need a google account. Training works fine with the Suunto wear app, updates work without a google account too.

Guess I really have to wait for the Suunto9 Mk2 or something similar.

@jthomi I really don’t know. It’s WearOS, reset and setup are via Google, so I think you need Google. Of course you can not use (and disable) Fit, or not share your Suunto activities with Fit, but that’s not the point.

@isazi I appreciated your effort, but please also give others the ability to answer. 😉

@jthomi others will reply or up vote if they know or have any info. Bit silly to ask a person who probably knows all the answers not to respond to your questions, as might as well not even bother to ask.

As already stated you need Google to set up, as you have to use a Google phone app to set up. Once set up you can use alternative apps to run HR belt, but again you need a Google account to get them off the play store.

                          @Jamie-BG 👍
A bit silly to say that I have asked a person who knows all the answers not to respond when the person said two times that he don’t thinks so, or is not sure. 🧐😉
But thanks for your answer. Seems like it is really not possible to use this watch without Google. I asked this when the watch came out and thought the watch had an update of some sorts to make it better.

@Jamie-BG But why do I need Google to set up the watch? What is installed or setup to use it?

@jthomi I never tried if you could bypass that step, but when you start the S7 for the first time you need to install WearOs on your phone, and I think you must have a google account to setup WearOs…

@jthomi the very same question you may ask: why i need google or apple account to setup phone - because you have to , at least for security reasons knowing this is your device.

and yes you can use external HR with 3rd party app

Thanks a lot for your answers, seems like there is no workaround to not use Google.

@jthomi - as others have pointed out no, you need google account. Not sure what the big issue is though - just create a throwaway/junkmail account.

in regards to external HR, it will not do it through the suunto app yet (but got to expect that has to come at some point - though the actual built in HR is very good and apart from initial start tracks close to Garmin HR - see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv-X__Stk5k - note that this is currently the only review that I know of that is post latest update, so reflects latest GPS and HR tweaks etc), though you can use some external apps to do this, or use google fit:

@jthomi said in Suunto7 and HR belt and without Google:

                                        Thank you @Jamie-BG

I have tried SportyGo and it was terrible, continual loss of BT connections and the altitude readings are completely off. There may be a Strava app that works for what you want as well. AFAIK, the watch will not function without WearOS installed on a phone, that is Google and you have no choice about that. You do not need to install any other Google apps.
