So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?
-
No survey for me just a reminder for digital transition, however I just noticed that Movescount now is on HTTPS and not plain HTTP.
Nice move Suunto! -
@André-Faria The term Movescount refers to two different things. It refers to an app and it refers to a website. The app is closing. The website, as far as I know, is not closing.
Assuming that the website is not closing, you will still be able to create routes or record POIs and then transfer them to your watch using the cable.
Ascent/descent is no longer shown on Movescount maps, which is a bit annoying, but is available in the watch when youâve transferred the route.

Yes, I know, letâs see what happens to the planner (present on movescount site) and interval creator (present on app) and of course app (this one I have no faith they will keep it, but we never know).
Letâs wait. -

Iâd add - If route has been imported from elsewhere, not for the one created in Movescount. AFAIK routes created in Movescount donât contain elevation data and you will not have this data in your watch.
As Suunto is doing very little to properly maintain routes in Movescount, they should just enable route support in Suunto app for Ambits. Even if that means you would still have to sync by cable (even Ambit3). That would be less annoying than having this broken route creator that people use just to import routes created elsewhere anyway. At least we could soon get Plotaroute to sync routes to Suunto app (I hope) so that would be a pretty good replacement.
That way Suunto would have one less thing to maintain, as we see that they are struggling with basic maintenance.
-
@Prenj the other day was just thinking the same⊠would be possible for Suunto to make route/POI transfer from Suunto app to Movescount so with SuuntoLink one can transfer over to the watch. Ideally would be that Suunto app could sync Movescount stuff (route/POI and settings) with the Ambit/Traverse family, just like SuuntoLink does (and Movescount app did) with no UI just background work.
-
@andrasveres Yes, that full syncing capability is just what I have been asking for in feature request (linked below). My understanding is that they have chosen to strip this away from ambit3 to create bigger gap between a3p and Suunto 9, to differentiate. Because if you put features side by side, it could be pretty tough to defend the price difference between those two watches. So A3P is now little less connected than it used to be. They basically downgraded it almost to Ambit2.
Middle ground could be letting Ambit users use Suunto app even for routes, because they are not properly maintaining this feature in Movescount web for almost a year now and I really doubt this will suddenly be changed at some point. On the other hand, Suunto app is being actively developed and is getting better. Plotaroute would be a decent replacement for route creator in Movescount, probably even better one than Movescount. So why not? Keep things simple and let people enjoy even these watches they now call âlegacy watchesâ (that one I will never understand).
-
@Prenj that is not correct. its not stripped to create a bigger gap.
Actually if you are on iOS we can pm.
I have multiple times asked in this forum (not you) to not jump into assumptions.

OK, that was just my understanding how thing are going. I would be really happy to see some progress in Suunto app for A3P although Iâm not actively using my a3p anymore mostly because of all the shortcomings.

As Romain said in the video about suunto transition, the strategy of suunto is to:
Invest in the âplatformâ instead of new watch every 6 months
Focus on doing good instead of doing everythingSo maybe we will have surprises.
But for sure there must be priorities, I believe first having best experience for current products, develop new ones and maybe for last to support older ones.
I believe it is normal.
Letâs see, a lot has changed since the initial statement, so⊠-

Very mysterious. Could be about technical barrier or a pleasant surprise.

What about both?

@André-Faria Surprisingly pleasant technical barrier? Nah!

A pleasant surprise, along with a âtechnicalâ barrier

this survey should not be there. MC is closing in a few weeks.
Now we have dates

@André-Faria Thanks for that.
I wonder what âRoutes still availableâ means. And what, if any, future for POIs.
Was there detail âbelowâ?

@Prenj Yes, youâre right, I must have been looking at an imported route. There is no elevation data for a route created in Movescount.
Iâve always been impressed by the accuracy with which my Traverse tracks Movescount routes on the ground. But if theyâre not maintaining it then maybe itâs time to move onto an alternative route creator.

what in âroutes still availableâ is so difficult to understand?
-
@Egika It can mean:
- A map on which to create & view routes
- An account library of prior MC-created/imported/move-conversion routes
- A simple function to transfer imported routes to the watch
No. 3 seems the minimum to fit the statement
Not necessarily No.2. And No.1 has been hobbled for some time.

Hello,
Does anybody know if Suunto custom apps data is now synced into Suunto app for Ambit/Traverse watches ?
Thanks.
