So, what are you going to do after Movescount closes?

Well, I see a lot of people complaining about the closing of Movescount and recent Suunto decisions.
So what is your plan?
Buy a new competitor watch?
Buy a new Suunto using the 30% discount?
Get used to the system as it is (no web, cable settings sync via cable for ambit range) and deal with the current SA problems?or what?
I am curious about it, and maybe with this we can have some inputs for @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos to pass the suunto about the impact that these moves are taking on the current owners.On my side I am still undecided, but more keen on buying a Garmin fenix 6x pro that is now on discount.

I took the step one year ago and upgraded to the S9B and I don’t regret it.
There are disadvantages with SA and the S9B has still room for improvement… but I would not want to go back to Garmin. -
I lost my trust in Suunto when they decided my watch needs to be dumbed down. So, no, unfortunately my next watch will not be suunto. I don’t need watch from company that thinks that it’s entitled to, when they choose to do so, disable some functions of my watch or eventually turn it into paper weight.
My next watch? Probably some Garmin. Their devices don’t seem to be so much dependant on their app or web service. Most of the watch functions can be adjusted in the watch, activities can be simply downloaded by connecting to computer and it seems they are supporting their watches better and much longer than Suunto.
I’ll keep my ambit3 peak in a drawer, because it lost value drastically, so it’s kind of better to have it as a backup device for it’s quality of hardware than to sell it for a fraction of the value it would have if it was actually properly supported by suunto.

I do like my S9baro although it has its flaws and room for improvement as @TELE-HO mentioned. I wouldn’t go back to Garmin either.
What I really dislike is the way Suunto communicates to its customers (or rather lack of).Take POI management for example. I have no idea why it isn’t built in Suunto App in the first place. It seems like a pretty basic feature to me and not really hard to implement. Now, after more then 2 year there are some rumors that it will finally get implemented.
I’m no programmer so I can’t decide if it is really that hard to implement or that Suunto had other priorities, but a lot of questions, anger and speculations which I have seen on this forum could have been avoided if Suunto shared a road map. Or at least shared their intentions with their customers.I can perfectly live with the fact a feature will not be implemented, but don’t let me guess and hope with every update. Just tell me it won’t get implemented or it will, but after a couple of years.
I think that will help a lot of people make a calculated desicion whether to stay with Suunto or start looking for a competitor watch or eco system. -
I made the change to SA long time ago and am on the iOS beta version since then.
Not missing Movescount.My hardware decisions are totally independent from this.

Will be moving on to a new brand…lost trust and faith in Suunto… Sad after 30+years of using their products.

As soon as I’ve finished paying out for house renovations (hopefully before winter properly arrives) I’ll be jumping ship unless POI’s have been added into the App (oh how I laugh as I say that, I can’t see it coming any time soon if past promises are anything to go by). If they are then the watch will probably get a stay of execution but the overall setup of having to create routes, export, and then import is just a pain and I really can’t be bothered humouring Suunto any more on their dogmatic assertion that they are right and we as the already paid up consumers are wrong.
They could give me their latest watches for free but it still doesn’t fix the lack of web platform or, more critically, the lack of forward POI creation for navigation (as opposed to recording where you’re stood at a point in time). Garmin still offer both of these functions. Even if they themselves have issues with other things, these are the critical features I bought the Suunto SU based upon. It’s crazy that I’m essentially having too junk a £600 watch because Suunto have taken it upon themselves to remove features, but there you go. Once bitten twice shy and as a result I’ll never buy any Suunto or Amer sports owned product again.

My plan is to enjoy reading again great discussions on this forum because people will finally accept Suunto’s digital transformation, stop repeating over and over the same complaints and hopefully start/continue debating how to best use the new ecosystem we Suunto customers have at our disposal now, and suggest new things that can be improved within that new ecosystem.
I’m a S7 / S9B owners, enjoying SA on the go and QS / Runalyze at home. When I am not happy with the strategy or behavior of a brand, I say it once, explain why I don’t think it’s a good decision. And then, based on the answer, I either live with the consequences or leave the brand. But I don’t try to convince the brand to change its decision. In Suunto’s case, I decided to embrace the change, leave aside what I will miss (which is very small for a S9B owner) and enjoy what I gained (which largely outweights what I lost).

Heck I agree with you… But suunto need to listen… I would love to actually work with Suunto to resolve issues etc… But they actually have to come to the table and listen so we all could work together.

I’m so disappointed that Movescount will be closed now. Is there a possibility to have an external tool which also uses tags like movescount. I used tags a lot and will miss it.

@regger Maybe quantified-self does. I don’t know because I don’t use it, but everyone is talking great about it and it’s developed by one of the moderators here. Top notch!

@regger I never used MC, so I don’t know how tags are implemented there, but Runalyze does support tags.

And therein lies the nub of the problem; you’re telling people to shut up and stop complaining when you’ve never used the products we’re having an issue with as you bought into the brand after all of this was closed off to new customers.
Quantified self is actually pretty good, and credit to @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos for developing it, but it doesn’t help with the ability to resolve the apps for Ambit users, the POIs etc, it’s purely an analysis tool.

I’m the same as you on the dislike of living in a throwaway culture. I can understand that if what they were doing is shutting off access to Movescount because the last time they sold a product which used it was ten years ago and there were only three users left, but it’s clear people want to continue using their watches, some of which were purchased only a couple of years ago. I certainly didn’t buy my Spartan with the expectation that in less than three years it would be junk, but sadly this will be the case once Movescount is turned off and I lose POIs as of tomorrow.

I do not miss MC at all, since all my historical moves are in SA, plus I have Strava and QS. I love that I can configure the watch via my mobile phone and being completely independent of a computer! You are out on a trip, want to change the set-up? Easy!
The digital strategy of Suunto is in my view an opportunity to change habits, and I decided beginning of 2019 to upgrade from my beloved Ambit to the S9Baro. I sold the Ambit easily, so it is definitely not a throw-away product for the drawer. These watches are robust and reliable and people know that.
I also have a Garmin plus my wife does. We never use the Garmin web app… It is all about habits!

I switched from Movescount to Suunto app when I changed my Ambit 3 Peak for a Suunto 9 Baro. Also I needed to adapt a bit, but I never had the feeling that my device was dumbed down because of the transition. It just needed a little flexibility from my side.
Did I miss Movescount as analisys tool?
Yes, but I found Runalyze which covers all my needs.Did I miss Movescount as configuration tool?
Not at all. Suunto App is more then capable of configuring my watch. Even in the field.Did I miss Movescount as Route tool?
Yes, definitly. Suunto App lacked routing possibilities at first, but was slowly catching up. The biggest leap was the possibility to import GPX files. Once that was implemented, my needs were fulfilled. I could plan routes in 3rd party apps and import them. The fact that Suunto App is slowly developing the route creation feature is great, but in the mean time it didn’t make my watch useless as some of you describe. -

I Don’t care about the other ranges, I only care about the Ambits/Traverse’s… I am pleased you are happy… BUT many of Us AMBIT/Traverse users are not.
