Do you have any insight on to why they are delaying; is it because of the major (for many people) bugs with Suunto App (Bike Power and Swim Data transfer from Ambits), is it in the hope that more Ambit owners change device before then, is it to allow time to reinstate features that Suunto have previously said we (Ambit3 owners) won’t get (structured intervals, adjust settings from phone, transfer routes from Suunto app etc.) or is it some other reason?

To be fair, unless my Ambit3 fails and I need to chose a replacement it won’t make any difference to me; but it would be fascinating to know…

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I meant are there any plan to make a better experience for these watches in Suunto app or this postpone is just to gain some extra time for maybe users with Ambits meantime will walk away anyway (or buy a new watch) without making trouble.
Just wondering, not questioning anything. 🙂

Thanks for this news. I bought my Ambit Peak 3 a year ago, was extremely impressed and have seen the functionality on the Movescount App diminish at a tolerable rate until now. I love my watch and in general, I have been a vocal advocate of Suunto.

Now, if I understand correctly, I will have no desktop interface at all without paying for a subscription to an external service I don’t want. It’s a complete deal-breaker for me and if it goes ahead, I will never trust Suunto nor buy another Suunto product again.

I don’t want to share my runs or my climbs with any community. I don’t want a personal trainer or diet plans. I don’t want BS distractions. I just want what Movescount presently gives… a clear image of all my sports activity with the ability to drill deeper into the data if I wish. That can’t be done on a smartphone in my opinion and I don’t agree to pay for an external service that isn’t what I want at all.

I don’t care that Movescount desktop online can’t compete with Strava et al, I am not interested in them at all unless they become free. Please, Suunto, stop this madness.

In the meantime, like others, I will delete the new app and keep going on Movescount in the hope that Suunto doesn’t completely alienate its customers by this indefensible move.

A very very good decision. Thank you all that shared our concerns to suunto.
Still, because we were used to the all mighty ambit series and movescount, we would like to know more about the future:
            2021 when?
2021 why? because suunto is trying to make all functions that were announced with ambit 3 available through the app (not web analysis, but apps, wireless stuff, etc)?
2021 why?because you will make the 9 or 10 with functions that the ambit 3 had (structured workouts) and so that would be more appealing for us to make the change ?

Don’t hesitate to “co-create” with us users, to take decisions that are good for both 🙂
We are not only here to cry, if there is a company that gives what we want and is trustful we have no problem putting money on it.
Right now, on my side, I feel that for my usage there is no “upgrade” on the market.
            But I may be wrong.

            Again congratulations on the decision!

There are plenty of free, or donation based, options, often discussed in this forum. My favorites are Runalyze and Quantified Self.

@amasidlover this is correct. Power and pairing issues due to new iOS / Apple phones are one main reason.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos So those of us with older iPhones sorta, kinda have Apple to “thank” for this temporary stay of execution on MC? Weird.

@Fenr1r I dont see it this way.

It was raised here many times (and mainly during covid 1st wave mess) that there were iOS issues for sync and also missing data.

Logically and rightfully Suunto should not shutdown the MC (app + web) if the user cannot sync with BT on those devices.

One year. Or mid-April. Or January 1st: some more time, anyway. And, as @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos noted, Covid Wave 1 may need a specific shout-out, too. Not entirely happy at that.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos That’s why there’s “kinda” and “sorta” and “thanks” is in quotation marks.

Thanks for this reply. I just took a look and the interfaces appear to be nothing like as pleasant or instinctive as Movescount’s and appear far more technical than I want or need.

Also, I guess they don’t sync automatically?

Simplicity is a big deal for me. I have had training consistency issues for years, in part through trying to be overly precise and, for the last few years, I have completely avoided unnecessary complications, keeping my workouts (and their tracking) simple. Movescount desktop & phone has been a fabulous tool for me.

Not so sure about “logic” here …

                                • reports of newer iPhones having issues with SA started coming as soon as iPhone 11 was released last September
                                • a year later Suunto still decided to announce exact dates for cutting connection for MC apps.
                                • Ambit3 has missed power in Suunto App since the watch support was added to the app, November 2018.
                                • announcement about the delay is made after the cut-off date …

Don’t get me wrong here, it takes some serious balls to stop a moving train and massive kudos to everyone involved, but I would not call it logical.

@margusl I ll tranfer the feedback. Idk what to say on this, maybe I am thinking inside my shoes apparently.

The issue about the IOS is a recentish one due to some app update and iOS update. There were other issues that were fixed (parsing workouts)
The power issue was raised again by me specifically.

All in all I think I should stop at some point helping here. I am tired. I don’t get anyone wrong here but this message hits me to the heart.

I do understand him, and I hope he doesn’t stop helping here.

I do not know where do you work guys but companies are built on many individual decisons which probably looking from outside seem irrational or sometimes are just that, bad decisions made for some individual and later you have to deal with that decisons. Or decisons that are good for now but aren’t for the future. Or decisions that in some time we will see that are the right call. People in companies work hard and try to do their best, with what they have. (I always say to my boss that with time and money I can do a space-rocket but with what I have now I can’t)

If I were @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos, who has an inside view of what is happening inside Suunto, probably will feel tired of all the bad air flowing around and more when you are working hard and people are telling you, with other words, that your work is not good.

I think is good that Suunto has put on hold the MC shutdown, whatever the reason, they won’t tell us and I understand why. For me It means that they want to solve things and make it work.
