@iTomB this update was due sometime ago.

Not sure for external sensors. Ain’t the audience of s7 atm. I would not bet on that. At least not soon enough.

And yes typically suunto goes with feature \ fix feature issues \ feature

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I agree as I don’t think external sensors are ever coming to the 7. As you said Suunto has made the choice that it’s not their audience. I think it’s the wrong choice and I think their recent price drop for the watch signifies they don’t really know the audience and are just trying to move units. It’s a real shame because a wear os watch with the regular Suunto to app built in (sensor support, intervals, and even Suuntoplus) would make it the only legitimate smart watch plus performance watch on the market. DCRainmaker has been right in saying Suunto has just lost their way.

very poor update. Will we have to wait another 3 months for something else?
          Very disappointed.

what do you mean? Is Suunto heading into nowhere?
Because some people say Suunto became too much appleish and now I read that you have the feeling that Suunto might give up their appleishness already again?

@brotzfrog10 the s7 is in full development by not only suunto. And that is a good thing.

This update fyi should have gone out something like start oct but a low level hardware issue that took 2 companies to solve stalled in

In the meantime other stuff are cooked.

It has been mentioned with some extra details what I said here.

Enjoy your watch, it’s going to get better.

Ps. The update could also have not arrived , and all be packed in the next update. But we decided to fix the issue that some users encountered and resulted in the watch crashing. We have discussed and reported this here.

@iTomB - pretty much agree with you. Suunto need to issue these to keep up with the competition and ensure that differentiation is there.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos - fully understand that, and if that is the case OK, but Suunto should formally release that as part of the update that this is just a fix, delayed due to the issue; and that the next update will include x,y & z and assuming no further issues is expected to drop within xx months.

There are people in market looking at full smart watches - apple watch / ticwatch pro 3 and at fitness watches like the Garmin Venu / Garmin Vivoactive series and wondering if the suunto 7 is worth the price. Knowing future feature updates and timelines can go a long way to aiding people to pull that trigger (and yes I want more people to buy - the more people who buy the more likely suunto is to throw future resources and to continue to improve the product and possibly ensure future better units).

We learned many times (even with this very post) that milestones and promises don’t work.

Even worse, while nothing was promised still with this update some people expected many things.

And it’s ok. That’s the strategy suunto follows , Google follows , Garmin follows , apple follows.

Still we are testers here that give hints and explain. Other companies don’t do that. And we do risk a (in a manner of speaking 50k ) nda price with every little word we say. I think so far we are doing well right ? 😎

I don’t say this to make us testers heros , but perhaps this explains how tight things are.

@brotzfrog10 I really do hope external sensors come to the S7.

I fully agree with you in that if Suunto decided to make the S7 (or maybe it’s successor?) the ultimate fitness focussed smartwatch - as in a WearOS device with the FULL force of Suunto fitness baked in - then I think they would have a killer device that would sell faster than they could make them. Even at the original asking price for the S7 (which is too high for a WearOS device, but would be fair for WearOS and full Suunto).

There are plenty of people looking for ‘the best fitness smartwatch’ and they are ending up with a TicWatch Pro or a Fossil. I’ve had both of those and they are NOT fitness smartwatches.

It’s only my opinion, but I think Suunto are seriously missing a big trick here.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I really do hope these features come some point in the future. But in the meantime, the update today looks good (on paper, as I don’t have it on my S7 yet) and as long as this level of support is maintained then I will be a (mostly) happy customer 🙂

                          Just also to be clear.

                          Suunto does hear you.

There can be stuff as other priorities.

For example for the average consumer of a smartwatch , a 24/7 chart in the app might b le more important than a belt, that he would never buy.

I have no clue what the intentions of suunto are when I said that the s7 is not targeted for a HR BT person. That’s what I , understand. (Personal opinion)

My 2 cents worth here. I am an iPhone user and I tested an AW alongside the S7. Guess which is on my wrist, the S7 even though as a smartwatch compared to the AW on an iPhone the S7 is not great. Why??? Try running with an AW and hit the lap button, try to get maps on the watch, required 3rd party, try to see HR zones, requires 3rd party, try to get the watch to go 16h…probably not. The S7 works like a Suunto…the map implementation on the S7 is the best I have seen on a watch, I don’t like the Garmin map implementation, it is hard to use. A lot of resources have gone in already, you now have routing (improved with direction arrows). And a bad crashing problem that was not easy to solve was worked on by a lot of people. I could go on a lot longer but comparisons are just that, all the watches you mentioned have their pluses and minuses.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos apologies, I was not having a whinge and I am sorry if it came across as such.

I do love my S7, it’s easily the best smartwatch I have used and I prefer it to the few Garmin that I have tried - mainly for the reasons that @Brad_Olwin listed (especially the maps!). My friend has just bought a Garmin Fenix 6Pro for the maps and is gutted they are not as good as mine 😄

I know that Suunto listen, it’s obvious from the updates so far. I am just adding my voice to the pile in the hope that external sensors do become supported. if that happens, along with 24/7 heartrate and sleep tracking (i know that will hit battery but it’s nice to have the option) then this watch will be a real superstar.

If you are in touch with the developers, please pass on my (and i’m sure all of here) thanks as we do appreciate the work - especially solving the issue of the app crashing (that sounds like it was a right sod to resolve as well!).

This update adds the ability to select waypoint / route ETA/ETE as field in profiles?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Ahhhh you crushed my dreams. 😁 It is the one and only beef I have with my Suunto 7. If I could attach an external HR monitor, it’d be perfect! I do appreciate the frequent updates, though! 👍 Also, I do feel like Suunto listens. When I am on the Garmin forums, I feel like the comments there just disappear into the void…

Just so everyone knows the rapidly tapping the check for updates screen does work (on all wear os watches) BUT you need to be connected to wifi, not bluetooth through your phone. Turn your bluetooth off (on watch and or phone) and make sure the watch is connected to only wifi. Then rapidly tap the watch is up to date screen.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos as always I appreciate the time you take on this forum. I’m glad to see updates rolling out for the S7 but I still stand behind my opinion that sunnto seems unsure who this watch is for. It’s got a half baked sunnto workout app built into it (no Suuntoplus features and no sensor support as mentioned already) but then it has by far the most detailed mapping software Suunto has ever offered. It’s a mix of parts that aren’t really aimed at any one consumer base. I just think it’s a big missed opportunity so far. It’s also been a year now so if something as simple as external sensor support was coming it would have been added already. Sportygo and even google fit for wear os already have sensor support so it’s not a limitation of the operating system. It’s simply a choice by sunnto which sadly makes no sense. For this reason I actually just returned my Suunto 7. I hated to do it but not having Chest strap support just makes the watch useless for any kind of high intensity training. Suunto was so close to having the best mix of sports and smart watch features on the market. It’s so disappointing to have them be so close but just trip at the finish line essentially.
